(More customer reviews)I purchased the Seca 400 for use on a bicycle I use for commuting to/from work three days a week. Since I leave very early to avoid the worst traffic, quite a bit of my riding is at night. There are also very dark sections of my 9-mile ride to work.
At full power, the 400 lumens of light output allows you to fully illuminate the road ahead - much like a car's headlights. I use the full power setting on the darkest sections of my ride.
At medium power, 200 lumens is still very bright and useful. Most of my riding is at this power setting since I want a reserve of battery energy when I ride home in the winter (which lands me in the dark WITH heavy vehicular traffic).
Even at low power, 100 lumens provides good illumination.
During daylight hours I'll use the flash setting to maximize my visibility.
This is a great light with a small battery pack and a very easy to use mounting system that holds well even through the worst bumps on the road.
I don't believe, however, that most bike commuters would ever need more than 400 lumens on the road so this light vs. the Seca 700 is probably a better choice for commuters.
