(More customer reviews)I run a non-profit, public-service firearms and personal security school that teaches about 60 percent women. We have been, among our other classes, teaching a class in unarmed self-defense for women and girls only for about four years. Two years ago, we bought the "Original" Wavemaster punching bag, and use it for teaching basic defensive blows. It is excellent for that, but we wanted something (other than the instructors) that the students could apply full-power defensive moves to. Recently, I became aware of the B.O.B. version of punching dummy, and purchased it. We just used it in our first class of 2011. It is Excellent! We set it up to a height approximating a six-foot man, and had the students "fight" it for a period of about one minute using all the moves we had taught them. It is very realistic as a target, and absorbent enough not to hurt their hands or feet. At the same time, the surface does not cause abrasions, so no gloves are required. Having it set as a fairly tall male, it made them learn to engage a taller, heavier opponent, which in the real world is most realistic. I chose the XL version so the women would have a target for kicks as well as hand and elbow blows. It is superior for that purpose.
I would strongly recommend the B.O.B. punching bag to all self-defense schools and students.
