(More customer reviews)After searching several makes and models I settled on the Kettler Coach. I gave it a long trial before reviewing (bought in April 2010). First impression was it was a nice machine and would last. The folding option is about worthless, there are no wheels to tip it up on after folding to move the machine as other models do. Folding it merely lets you keep it in place and make it smaller, leaving it sticking up in the air. I finally put rugs under it to slide it out of the way when not in use. It's a really long machine, I don't have tons of space to just leave it where it is.
The heart rate monitor did not work, Kettler sent a new one, but I had to replace it. The new one didn't work either, and now the flywheel had a catch in it, at times not allowing the rope to recoil. Kettler's techs had me take the machine apart to assess what was wrong. They said I could replace the flywheel, until I reminded them that my warranty includes service. They finally sent someone out who replaced the flywheel and the computer. Yeah! It worked. Oh...then I turned on my TV to work out. No more heart rate monitor. Huh? Could that really be the problem? My treadmill's monitor in the same room in nearly the same location works just fine. Kettler then said that is a not so uncommon problem with heart rate monitors (funny, no one thought of this when it didn't work before and when I inquired about the machine before purchase). No one cared anymore that the heart rate monitor didn't work, they said to try turning the machine around to face the other way. Gonna be hard to watch the TV then. I settled in and decided that it was mine no matter what and there is no heart rate monitor. Now the foot straps are broken. I'm waiting to hear back if they are going to send new ones. I really don't care what else goes wrong (or maybe right), but this machine has been a piece of junk. I bought a used, cheaper model prior to this and at least got 3 trouble free years out of it. At $300 it was only a hundred dollars a year (and I thought that was expensive, ha!). The Kettler hasn't made it a year yet. Waste of $1000. Oh, wait, it was only $999.
