Dahon Speed Pro TT 2008 Folding Bike Review

Dahon Speed Pro TT 2008 Folding Bike

I purchased my Dahon Speed Pro TT after a change in my commute that required me to start riding the Amtrak train each day. I didn't want to give up cycling to work, but didn't want a folder that would slow me down. I settled on the Speed Pro TT (2008 model) because of it's promise to fold down quickly and ride fast. Thus far, it has done this and then some. First off, this bike is fast. I find that, in most conditions, it rides just as fast as my high-end Trek road bike. While the small wheels felt a little dicey at first, I quickly learned how to ride on them AND realized that they gave the bike awesome maneuverability in city traffic and whenever I had to bail out on a side walk. The track-style handle bars are very comfortable and the bar-adjustment system that this bike has gives infinite positioning options. The bike folds very quickly and easily. The only flaw I have found is that it sometimes doesn't stay completely folded if turned on one side or carried in a certain way. To address this, I just keep a bungee cord with me at all times and wrap it around the wheels when folded.
I am seeing more and more Dahon folders on the streets of DC, and for good reason. These bikes are built tough, fold easily, and ride great. The Speed Pro TT is definitely an excellent option for any roadie who wants a good commuting/traveling bike to use when a full-size bike isn't a practical option. I have done rides over 25 miles long on my Dahon and found it to be exceedingly comfortable and agile.
Again, the bike adjusts quite easily to accommodate different heights. I am five feet tall (barely) and have been able to adjust both the seat and handlebars to fit me. I had a guy friend try out the bike and he was also able to adjust it easily (he is a little under 6 feet tall). While this doesn't give you the custom fit that a Bike Friday will give, it does fold down into a much smaller package and is lighter. I have had no problem carrying it onto Metro or the Amtrak train.
Needless to say, I have been very happy with this purchase. I use my bike daily and, thus far, it has withstood the abuse I have delivered. I fold and unfold it several times each day. You get a lot of bike for your money with Dahon and this bike is worth every penny and then some.

The Speed Pro is the bike for the serious roadie who wants it all: a bike that can take on a century as easily as it can pack into a suitcase for travel. The custom-drawn 4130 chromoly steel frame is stiff while still offering a supple ride. The SRAM DualDrive gearing delivers 27 gears for anything from the steepest hills to hammering on the flats. And the BioLogicTM II frame geometry combined with a Syntace VRO adjustable handlebar system let you dial in the perfect riding position. For 2008 we upgrade to an Ultegra derailleur, Kore I-Beam saddle and seat post, and the new Radius V handlepost. ?Dahon Special Edition Schwalbe Stelvio tires are incredibly light and fast. ?Kinetix Pro TT bars allow a wide variety of ergonomic hand positions and allow riders to adjust the reach of their brake levers. ?Kinetix Pro wheels are light, aero, and incredibly fast to accelerate.

Ab Coaster Home Abdominal Trainer Review

Let me give you a little background. In March 2008 I was weighing about 280 lbs, damaged my lateral meniscus in my right knee from being too heavy, and had to have knee surgery at age 30. Furthermore, I had MRIs done on my back and it was determined that I had damaged/compressed lower discs, an unnatural straightened back (backs are supposed to be curved) and overstressed back muscles trying to compensate for the 54 inch waist. I was in physical therapy for months for my back. After all these health problems at a young age I decided to make a life change to get fit and lose weight and this machine helped me get to that point. My weight loss process has been slow and I started to see the commercials for these machines in the Fall of 2008. I always thought the price was too high, but at this point I was weighing about 243 lbs and still needed to strengthen my weakest part of my body, my stomach muscles which pretty much were never used for anything in my life other than for holding fat. At first I tried to get my YMCA to get the $1500 gym version of the machine, but no luck. So I took the plunge and for Christmas 2008 I decided to buy this since there was no way I could even do one sit-up or crunch because of my lower back.
Well the day I got the Abcoaster Pro was the day I took my fitness routine to the next level. The product is sturdy, durable, and well built. It was easy for an unfit guy like me to do these ab exercises compared to the ones that stress your back and neck. At first I was lucky if I could do even 5 minutes on this machine. Within weeks I noticed a substantial difference in my abdomen as my stomach started to take form. The inches started to come off, slowly mind you, but it was working. I didn't think one of these infomercial products could work, but it did work. Eventually I got stronger and thus I took the plunge and started both spinning/cycling classes and cardio-kickboxing. Then came strength training with weights to boot-camp and now running.
This machine was the starter I needed. I pretty much was just riding the stationary bike, some rowing, some swimming and watching my diet (Weight Watchers) before I bought this. Believe me, for men (and women), I think most of us are self-conscious about our middle region. No matter how much shape we're in, if we have a little belly we feel out of shape, and people do notice the belly that's the society we live in.
Today I'm down to about 183 lbs, 6% body fat,and a healthy BMI. I'm a gym rat and a workout fiend. I think this machine is a good machine if you've ever had trouble doing any type of ab exercises. While I'm doing all kinds of different ab exercises today, I still use this machine routinely twice a week on the cardio-kickboxing class days.
So why did I give it four stars and not five stars?
1. Still a little pricey, but if you really use it, it's worth it.
2. The ab rep counter is cheap and is damaged because it is located right where your sweat will drop on it.
3. The ball-bearings/wheels that the coaster rests on and moves with is starting to wear out from use and I'm not sure how much life this thing will have left and it's not even a year old.
The bottom-line is this, if you need ab help and you have weak abs, then this machine is for you. It won't stress your back or neck and can actually be fun if you set it up in front of the TV with your favorite show on.

The revolutionary Ab Coaster puts you on the fast track to great abs. This home version of the Ab Coaster--a commercial-quality unit is also available--works exactly the opposite from a traditional ab crunch machine. Rather than working your ab muscles from the top down, the Ab Coaster works from the bottom up, helping you target those hard-to-reach lower abs. Just kneel on the comfortable carriage and pull your knees up. As you lift, the knee carriage glides along the biometrically designed curved track, engaging your lower abs first, then the middle and upper region, giving you a complete abdominal workout. The device also promotes core stabilization by isolating the abdominal region and virtually eliminating any hip flexor involvement.
The Ab Coaster keeps you in perfect form and makes it easy for anyone, regardless of fitness level, to exercise their entire abdominal regions correctly and effectively every time without straining their necks or lower backs. The Ab Coaster also features a multi-angle adjustable seat to help you work your love handles and plate-loading posts to add extra weights for advanced users. The Ab Coaster measures 61 by 53 by 33 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on the frame and a 90-day warranty on the pads.

This triton is FANTASTIC! I bought one for my 9-year-old niece on her birthday and she LOVES IT! She is the HIT of the neighborhood. All of the kids come over to the house to take rides on the triton. They love the unique steering and adjustable length that makes it fun and functional. Now, instead of sitting in front of the TV playing video games, she is outside with her friends, having fun and exercising on her new triton three-wheeler! I am truly pleased with my purchase.

I have been using the Ab Coaster at a local gym and am really getting good results. So I was a bit skeptical trying out this one. But to my surprise, this fitness equipment works just like the ab coaster except it's lighter and easier to move around the house. It also offers good amount of core workout as well as upper body workout...highly recommended!

Proform Ab Glider Review

Proform Ab Glider
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I see that the owner of Proform has provided commentary just prior to mine. I hope he can explain whether the company has recently reduced the length of the Ab Glider handlebars? I was banking on this product. Before buying it, I just couldn't see how it could NOT work to tighten my abdomen. I bought the Ab Glider after repeatedly watching the commercials and reading the glowing reviews. When it arrived and I finally got it assembled and working smoothly, I was shocked to find that the handlebars are at least a foot shorter than in the commercials and as pictured on the box. This throws off the total ergonomics of the unit, making it impossible to pull up with the abdomen without leaning completely into the small handlebars--an awkward and tiresome maneuver that stresses the back far, far more than the abdomen. Because the small handlebars force me to lean into them, I am not provided the leverage to pull up at the abdomen, so I feel no stress or soreness in the abdomen at all after trying to 'exercise."
The machine does not allow for adjustment of the handlebars--neither to raise, nor pull them closer to the body. I've seen others on the Web with this same problem so I know I'm not alone. This is particularly frustrating because I know that if the handlebars were as tall as in the commercials and on the box, I could get a terrific workout.
I'm about to have the unit disassembled to return, but would be very happy just to get a set of the same longer handlebars that are featured in the commercials and in the ads. I'll put them on myself. By the way, I'm average height--not particularly tall or short, so I'm not able to understand why the handlebars should be a problem. Has the owner tested this product with a few different heights and body types? Has the owner considered making the handlebars adjustable or providing varying lengths?
I gave it two stars only because I still have lingering thoughts on how good it could have been. To the owner of the company whose message appears just before mine: What do you suggest I do?
