Reebok 1000 X Elliptical Review

I have had this elliptical for about a year. It is one of the best non commercial grade ellipticals i have been on. I like it far more than half of the machines at lifetime fitness. It has a good incline option. I would say that the heavier resistance is a bit much. only needs 15 at the max. the 20 is like riding brakes. I love the options to plug in my ipod and other mp3 players!
great buy for the price...btw...you can get them for about 900 tops!

Stamina Conversion II Recumbent Bike / Rower Review

Stamina Conversion II Recumbent Bike / Rower

(More customer reviews)
To open this review I would like to explain the service and process I needed to go thru to get the equipment up and running, Then a product review.
I purchaced this in the middle of march and it was delivered 4 days late in a box that looked very torn up. It was only being held together by the plastic bands, the box had been torn apart at both ends. Because I received it late I did not have time to assemble it for a week. When I began to assemble I noticed that I was missing screws, bolts, and the 'included' tools. So I went online to ask about this. On the Stamina website a form is provided for serial number to be included with any request. I went over every part included and every page of the manual and could not come up with a number. I found a place in the manual that told me where to look for the sticker with the number, but I did not have any such sticker. I sent the request anyway with my explination. After 2 weeks I had no response so I called their support number. A friendly person told me that she could see my request in the system but there was a delay getting parts for this item because it was receiving a lot of orders for parts. A package was eventually shipped to me and it included almost everything I needed. I tried to assemble again and got as far as step 6. I needed a carrige bolt to go thru the beam that was not included. I decided to go around stamina on this one and purchaced the bolt at Lowes. The instructions are very plain and would do well to take a page from IKEA and give a few more pictures.
Now my bike/rower is working and ready. 2 months after purchace.
A metric socket set is a big help if you want to assemble quickly. The provided slim flimsy wrench is a pain.
PRODUCT REVIEW.
The bike / rower is completly as described in function. The computer however is very poor. The handheld heartrate monitor is like a carnival weight guesser. I am a very in shape 27 year old and i can check my heart rate before i begin working out and it will read 95-105. during my workout the numbers jump all over from 70 to 115 with no reason. I have tested this theroy many times before adding this to my review, it does not measure a good BPM. The buttons other than MODE do not function and must be for asthetics. The bike display does turn on when the rower or bike is used and turns off by itself as it should. The calories burned is very optomistic compared to the gear at my gym. The other readouts are good but when taken as a whole I largly disregard the readouts altogether except for time of workout. Needless to say the computer here is the large dissappointment of the item.
The magnetic system for bike and rower are good. It provides a good range of resistance but I don't beleive that the resistance is tied into the 'calories burned' computer as level 8 registers same as level 2.
There could be a tougher setting too, as for rowing at maximum resistance is still a bit soft for the strong arm. I was hoping for some extra excercise by holding the row bar palm up and pulling for curls but there isnt enough 'weight' to make this worthwhile for me.
The rower is very quiet! This is a redeeming quality that the bike really needed. The bike is quiet too but can get clanky if you accellerate hard as the weight shifts laterally. This is rare however.
The rollers and pedals seem up to the task and look and feel durable. I will update if needed if parts wear out prematurly. The fold up is quick and very easy. I actually had no intention of ever folding this away after I assembled it. Now i realize how effortless and quick it is I have been folding it in the corner. The seat is adaquate and built for the 20 minute workout. Beyond a half hour I find the firmness too much to continute to sit, especially when using as a bike. I have boney hips however and I do find a lot of workout equipment seats too wide and hard.
I weigh 180 and am 6'3" I can extend fully with the rower and never hit the rear stopper. Also I have plenty of legroom to lock in the bike and could actually extend the seat and lock it in a position for an even loger legged person. I wish cars were this roomy.
The item is easy to handle, lightweight enough to move alone. I am overall glad to have it and hope it stands up to continued use, it looks like it will. Well worth the money just for its solid feel and apparent quality. Apart from getting it up and running I can definatly reccomend this piece of equipment. ITEM 4/5CUSTOMER SERVICE 2/5Overall 3.

Featuring a battery-operated monitor displaying speed, distance, time, calories burned, and heart rate, this two-in-one machine combines a recumbent bicycle and a rower for two types of low-impact strength and cardio workouts. Moving a pin switches from one mode to the other. In either bicycle or rower mode, magnetic resistance provides a quiet, smooth workout, whose intensity can be varied by turning an eight-position knob without interrupting a workout. A foam-padded seat glides on a ball-bearing roller system along an aluminum rail during rowing, and adjusts to fit different leg lengths for recumbent biking. For bicycling, oversized pedals and adjustable foot-straps hold feet securely to improve pulling motion, in addition to pushing motion. For rowing, a heavy-duty nylon strap and foam grips keep hands stable and comfortable. Assembled, the machine measures 74-1/4 inches long x 23-1/2 inches wide x 34 inches high and weighs 108 pounds. Folded for storage, it measures 34 inches long x 23-1/3 inches wide x 56-1/2 inches high.
About Recumbent Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper Review

Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Stamina 55-2065 Elliptical/Stepper is a nice piece of equipment. The assembly was pretty straight-forward. It took about an hour and thirty minutes which I don't think was too bad. This machine is not totally quiet but it doesn't make any squeaking, squealing and/or knocking noises like other ellipticals that I've tried. I love the great workout you get with this machine. It works almost every muscle in my body. The workout programs are quite challenging, which is a good thing. I'm still on Level 1 whereas when I was going to the gym and using their machines I was on Level 5. So this is no easy machine, again, that's a good thing.
Likes:
- Straight-forward assembly
- Very nice looking and sleek design
- Takes up little space and quite compact especially if you want to put it in a small space like a bedroom(where I have mine).
- Two machines in one! It's an elliptical and a stepper and it's easy to switch from one to the other. There's your value right there. No need to buy two machines.
- Well laid out out button controls and clear display
- A nice variety of different settings to try or to challenge yourself. They'll always be a program that will give you the intense workout that you want. So this machine is great for people of all fitness levels.
Dislike:
- The dual action bars tend to be a bit on the wobbly side. No amount of screw tightening seems to alleviate this. I'm not sure if this is normal for this type of machine or my product has a defect of some kind.
Minor or knit-picking gripes ;-):
- I wish there was a heart rate monitor on the dual action bars and not just on the stationary bars.
- I wish the display was backlit.
- I wish the water bottle holder could accommodate thicker sized bottles. I know the machine comes with a bottle but I like to use the one I've always used.
All and all, I'm quite pleased with the Stamina 55-2065. I did months of research to try and find the right elliptical. I read both the positive and negative reviews for other machines and I was scared to purchase one until I came across this one. I'm glad I listened to the reviews and got it. This is a solid machine and will definitely give you the workout you need. No more gym membership for me.

Programmed with 12 workouts and capable of creating and saving four personalized workouts, this machine combines an elliptical strider and a stepper to provide upper- and lower-body exercise in addition to a low-impact cardiovascular workout. A battery-operated monitor displays time, height, weight, RPM, speed, distance, fat percentage, calories burned, metabolism rate, and heart rate. (Heart-rate sensors are built into a stationary hand grip.) Plus and minus buttons (+ and -) on the monitor allow a workout's intensity level to be altered without interrupting the workout. The machine employs a heavy-weighted flywheel-resistance and belt-drive train so it operates silently and smoothly.
The elliptical mode blends stair climbing, cycling, skiing, and walking in a single movement. In forward motion, quadriceps, buttocks, lower abdomen, hips, and thighs are targeted. In reverse motion, hamstrings, lower buttocks, hips, thighs, and calves are targeted. The stepper mode works the same muscle groups with a vertical motion. Switching between modes is quick and easy. In either mode, dual-action handlebars--foam-padded for comfort--add an upper-body workout to tone and firm arms, chest, shoulders, and back. (The stationary hand grip offers an alternative to the handlebars.) A water bottle and bottle holder are positioned on the machine's upright section. The cross-trainer's frame is steel and aluminum. Floor protectors safeguard a workout area and prevent skidding. Assembled (instructions included), the machine measures 46 inches long x 30-3/4 inches wide and weighs 153 pounds.
About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Marcy SM 6001 Smith Cage and Utility Bench Review

Instructions suck to put together and it makes it easeir to use multiple people as item suggests. Also if you put some sort of oil or lubricant on the vertical bars that the bar slides along it works easier and you won't worry about doing damage to yourself because without the lubricant the bar had to stay at perfect balance otherwise would stick and lurch once added lubricant works much better.
Like this item it has allowed me to increase weights above what doing on stand alone bench as there is no need for spotter.

Body Glide SST6000 Ski-Skate Trainer Review

Body Glide SST6000 Ski-Skate Trainer
Average Reviews:

In spite of the inaccurate and slow to respond heart rate monitor and the malfunctioning calorie counter I love love love this machine. It is very heavy duty with a nice rage of motion. My first love was a precor commercial elliptical. After three years of using the same machine I needed a change. I am an avid skier and inline skater so I took the plunge and ordered it having never set foot on one. I'm glad I did.
I will say, perhaps the more expensive new model has better sensors but I was not willing to spend an extra 500 bucks. I'm writing this because I could not find one review on this machine anywhere on the internet that was useful. This machine is great for any user level. My husband is also an avid skater and says it hurts his knees but I think its because he refuses to decrease the resistance....so stubborn! The programs are extensive and relatively easy to use. You can save your user profile which would be really great if the calorie count and heart rate monitor worked a little better. Again, I have to say these were not a deal breaker because this it like no machine I have ever used and I love it.

Total Gym Xl Review

I have been using the Total Gym XL for around 5 weeks. If you are a serious bodybuilder, this is probably not the home gym for you. But if you are looking to tone up and strenghten your whole body, or, if you are like me, over 55 and trying not to lose any more muscle mass :) this is GREAT piece of equipment! After just a couple days of getting used to the gym, it takes just seconds to change the resistance level, add or remove the wing attachment, or add or remove the cable pulley for the various exercises. The included DVDs, flip chart, and wall chart make it easy to tailor your workout to your personal goals. It is a well made piece of equipment and glides very smoothly. Improvements come quickly at first - I have already moved up a level of resistance in several exercises. Highly recommended.

Body Max XMT6700 Multi-Functional Trainer Review

Body Max XMT6700 Multi-Functional Trainer
Average Reviews:

This machine is not worth the price. I was expecting much, much better performance than it delievers. It is definitely not characteristic of how a $[...] exercise machine should operate. The action is harsh and very unsmooth. Friction is apparent to the point where I had to wait for the handle attachment to "catch-up" with my hands. I have used $[...] weight machines that operated more smoothly. I contacted the manufacturer, Body Flex Sports, and emailed them many pictures and vidoes to see if I had assembled something incorrectly. I was told that I had assembled it correctly, but that the machine "is what it is" and there was nothing they could or would do. Very disappointing and frustrating. I would not recommend this machine to anyone. The only positive thing about this whole transaction has been Amazom[...]. The unit was originally shipped to the wrong address, and was missing parts but all in all Amazon has come through and made it right.

Schwinn 820p Treadmill Review

Schwinn 820p Treadmill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Consumer Reports recently rated treadmills, and this model was picked as their "best buy." I have no idea why, as it is a piece of junk.
Points to note:
1. Shaking
Although assembled correctly, this treadmill shakes. The faster the speed, the more it shakes. At only 3.5 mph, my water bottle begins to move back and forth in the holder. At 4 mph, it goes flying off. There is also a ridge for placing a book, but I don't see how anyone could read with a book jerking all over the place. There is nothing that can be made any tighter to stop the shaking.
2. Bucking
The second time I used the treadmill, the belt would suddenly buck forward for no reason. I now have to hold on for dear life so that I don't fall when it bucks. The manual gives you a few tips for dealing with this problem, but they don't work.
3. Malfunctioning Heart Monitor
The grip heart rate monitor doesn't work correctly. It just arbitrarily gives you a heart rate of its own choosing. During a workout it might say 150, then 80 bpm a few seconds later.
4. Short in Height
I'm of average height for a woman (5'5") and I can grip the handrails with my arms fully extended straight down. A taller person would not be able to grip the handrails without bending over. Also, a book placed on the book rest would be pretty far away for a tall person to read comfortably.
5. Hard Surface
This treadmill boasts "Strike Zone deck cushioning, which is kind on your joints in your lift-off and landing motions (while also absorbing shock)." I'm not sure what they're talking about, as the deck surface is so hard it's like walking on concrete.
6. Huge packaging
I uploaded a picture to show the size of the box. It's huge. Set-up and delivery was not an option when I ordered this. In fact, the delivery company would only deliver to the front porch. The deliveryman was kind enough to bring the 220 pound package inside for me, but you might not be so lucky. And getting it to the basement was still a problem. This could only be accomplished by removing the packaging--which then meant the treadmill was mine forever, as it couldn't be sent back. Even so, it was not an easy task to transport it.
All in all, I can't believe I wasted $1300 on this inferior product. I don't recommend it to anyone.
Edit: About 6 months after I wrote this review, I was contacted by someone from Nautilus. (Note: this was only AFTER Amazon secured my permission to pass on my personal information). He explained that he was sorry I didn't like the treadmill, as I had obviously gotten a lemon. As a gesture of goodwill, he offered to ship me another treadmill FREE OF CHARGE. Since I didn't care for the Schwinn 820p treadmill, he sent me a Bowflex instead. It arrived at my door a few weeks later and I love it. I did not have to return the first treadmill. I was impressed by Nautilus' customer service, as they were under no obligation to send me anything, and they did so based only on a review on Amazon. A+ for them.

Treadmills provide a convenient way to regularly exercise in all weather conditions in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Bowflex TC5000 Treadclimber Review

Bowflex TC5000 Treadclimber
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My husband and I bought the Bowflex Treadclimber TC 5000 in February 2006.
We love this machine for some reasons, and don't like it for other reasons. I'll explain below.
ASSEMBLY:
We assembled this machine ourselves. The assembly instructions were fairly easy to follow. Two persons must work together to lift and assemble some parts. It took us about 2 hours to put the machine together.
IMPRESSION:
We chose this machine because of its compact size. The space available in our home does not allow room for a treadmill or elliptical machine.
We feel great, invigorated, and sweaty at the end of each workout on this machine.
My husband says that this machine gives him a more vigorous workout than regular treadmills.
USAGE AND RESULTS:
Since 2006, I've been using this machine 5 days a week for 35-45 minutes, at medium speeds ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 mph.
For nearly 2 years, my husband stuck to a fast-paced (3.5 to mostly 4.0 mph), 5-days-a-week, 80-minute regimen. He now reduces the workout to 3 days a week
Before buying this machine, we were in good health. Now, we're in excellent health, God willing.
I've lost about 3 lbs. My husband has lost about 7 lbs. We've toned up visibly over the last 2 years, but not entirely because of this machine.
After each Treadclimber workout, we add 30-40 minutes of lifting weights (25-50 lbs).
When time and energy permit, I also add a 10-15 minute abdominal exercise, and about a 25 minute Taebo workout to my daily routine.
RESISTANCE LEVEL:
We started at the lower resistance levels. Within a few weeks, we quickly progressed to the maximum setting.
Since then, we leave the resistance at the maximum level. We feel no need to interrupt any workout to adjust the resistance level.
FUNNY NOISES:
We put a rug under our machine for cushion and noise reduction.
When we began to use this machine, the right hydraulic piston made squeaky noises. Terribly annoying.
We sprayed silicon oil on all the hydraulic joints we could think of. But the noise continued.
After a month or so, we sort of became tone-deaf to this squeak. Eventually, it disappeared.
Thereafter, from time to time, we hear unusual noises from the machine. Not loud, but clearly noticeable.
Out comes the silicon spray can. A squirt here. A squirt there. Silence restored.
If you own this machine, arm yourself with a lubricant spray can, and prepare for sporadic battles to vanquish weird noises.
MOTOR:
After almost 2 years of usage, our machine broke down. The odometer reading was 49,400. (This is the number that briefly flashes on the console after you insert the safety key.)
Through the phone, Bowflex customer service department walked us through different diagnostic steps to pinpoint the source of the problem.
Yes, one needs to be next to the machine (i.e. at home) while calling in for help. Calling from work is futile without the machine.
The final verdict? The motor died, within the 5-year warranty period. Thank God.
We weren't happy to learn that the warranty covers parts, not labor. Customers must replace the parts themselves. This is an important point that you need to keep in mind, if planning to buy a treadclimber.
After our machine was kaput for 5-weeks , the motor finally arrived. Without instructions. Perhaps a shipping oversight. Again, we called Bowflex. They sent the instructions by e-mail.
We're the do-it-yourself type. In spite of previous engineering degrees, we found the written instructions hard to follow. But the photos in the instructions were helpful.
It was a great challenge to replace the motor. The most difficult part was pulling the tight, new drive belt over the roller pulley and motor flywheel.
Without my husband's muscles, there's no way I can do the work myself. Together, we spent over 3 hours on this project.
BELT:
We keep the treadles and belts regularly lubricated, even more often than instructed in the manual.
Almost immediately after we installed the new motor, the belt on the treadle began to make a scraping noise.
We squirted silicon oil, and adjusted the belt tension. But the noise got worse and more annoying.
When the odometer reached 49,600 or so, the scraping sound progressed to a loud screeching noise.
The belt was tracking excessively to one side, and scrape against something under the treadle.
Again, we called Bowflex customer service. We had the number memorized and on speed dial by now.
The customer service representative told us to adjust the belt tension. Several times. No good. She could hear the screeching noise over the phone.
The final diagnosis? The belt got old, and over stretched. So, they sent new belts, under the 3-year warranty. Thank God.
A few days later, a set of new belts arrived. With instructions this time, luckily.
Unfortunately, the belt replacement instructions is a complete enigma.
No pictures. No drawings. No idea what they're talking about.
Again. Two laborers. Two engineering degrees. Much head scratching and muttering. Many cuts, scrapes, and grunts. More than 4 hours later. Two aching backs. New right belt.
The left belt? It's worn, too. But not making any noise yet. And we had no energy left to replace the left belt.
The left belt is tougher to replace than the right. We must remove the drive belt, roller pulley, and motor flywheel to remove the left belt.
With fresh memory of our struggle with these parts, we want to leave them in peace for now.
So, we're walking very carefully on the left belt, and hope to delay its replacement as long as possible.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
If you buy this machine, guard the receipt with your life. When problems develop, to get parts under warranty, you must first fax your receipt to Bowflex.
Their customer service department is open on weekdays, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST.
This meant having to juggle our work schedules to be at home during the times that we contacted Bowflex.
You need to be next to your machine when calling Bowflex for help. Their customer service representative will walk you through certain steps.
You'll have to follow each step, and describe over the phone what your machine is doing.
It's like getting your car mechanic to figure out, over the phone, what's wrong with you car.
He'll send you the replacement parts and instructions. Although in English, some written instructions make absolutely no sense to you.
At the end, you'll have to take your machine apart and fix it yourself.
Below is our tally of contacts with Bowflex after our machine broke down.
-13 phone calls to Bowflex - too many wasted hours to recall without pain.
-10 days delay for Bowflex to return our 1st phone call.
-9 Bowflex representatives - some inept, 2 helpful, 1 knowledgeable.
-3 wrong diagnoses (replacement of speed sensor, jumper wire, and circuit board).
-3 failed attempts to take the machine apart pursuant to wrong diagnoses.
-1 correct diagnosis (motor replacement), finally given by the 6th representative.
-1 shipment delay due to bad data entry - wrong shipping address.
-4 e-mails sent to 2 representatives - no reply received.
-3 weeks delay for new motor - part not available.
-1 run-around attempt to get supervisor's contact information - wrong information given, still no clue who's the head honcho of customer service.
The above is the good, bad, and ugly account of our experience with our TC 5000 Bowflex Treadclimber over the last 2 years.
We hope that you find it helpful in your decision whether to purchase one for yourself.
April 23, 2008 Update:
We tried to replace the left belt, but ran into a problem. We couldn't remove some of the button head screws. They got stripped without budging. Really bad quality screws. We looked for the manufacturing label on the machine. Made in China. Didn't surprise us.
We spoke to 3 Bowflex customer service representatives. None had any idea how to deal with the problem. We ordered replacement screws. As advised by our local hardware store, we'll try a screw extractor when the replacement screws arrive.

Stamina 1772 Magnetic Elliptical Trainer Review

This is good choice if you don't have the money for the more expensive machines. I've had this for about 3 months now, and I use it almost every day and I'm getting into good shape.
The first issue I had with this is I noticed right out of the box that the cover had a crack and was peeling, so I crazy glued it all down. The second issue I had was that they gave me the wrong sized bolt for the stabilizer, so I went to the hardware store and bought a longer one. The third issue I had was when I started using it, the pedal arm kept unscrewing itself off and I had to constantly tighten it back down. I think I resolved that one now by tightening it basically until my arm hurt. Another issue I have is some minor squeaks now and then.
Don't let these small issues scare you away from purchasing this item though. If you go in not expecting the highest quality but wanting a sturdy workout machine and willing to fix some minor issues yourself, then you won't go wrong with this. For the price I think it's about the best you can do for a new machine online.

THERACK® Workout Station Review

THERACK® Workout Station

--The Rack Workout Station--
PROS: I'm highly critical of workout gadgets, but I'm very impressed with THERACK! Unlike many other workout products, THERACK promotes real exercises that are time-tested and truly work (generally if it's hard to do and requires balance, you're on the right track). It's elegantly simple, seems to be of good quality construction, and despite my height of 6'1'' I was able to comfortably do dips and other exercises as advertised. Never mind the feeling I sometimes have--when it's set up for dips--that I now own a beefed-up walker. It folds very compact and fits under my bed, just as advertised. While there is NO substitute for weight training at a gym, this product will at the very least get you training with the right kinds of body-weight movements--even if it's in your small apartment.
CONS: ah, if only THERACK included a means of training legs--then it might be closer to the perfect training machine. Also, I find it much more difficult to use THERACK to properly hold your feet in place for sit ups (it's simply not heavy enough to act as a solid foot brace), and VERY difficult to use for seated ab work as it advertises as part of its training use (it's too difficult to sit on THERACK's "seated" area). Curls with THERACK are also not so great--bicep training is a bit awkward. My concern is that ultimately this is a dips/abs/triceps machine--other exercises seem more like just movements the company discovered you COULD do, but not particularly comfortably. Nonetheless, I'm glad to have THERACK get me training at home while I prep myself to begin getting my sorry ass to the gym =)

Ironman 1711 Recumbent Bike Review

Two days ago I purchased an Ironman 1711. It was a floor model so no assembly was necessary. I'm glad it was assembled because the instructions for assembly look daunting. Still, another reviewer said he and his wife assembled their 1711 in about 90 minutes.
Since I will be using my machine for calorie burning and cardio exercise only, I have no use for all the bells and whistles which come on higher priced, (and bulkier), exercise bikes. This one comes with a battery-operated display which shows Time; Speed;, Distance; Calories; Pulse; and Pulse Recovery. The instructions include suggestions for pulse rate during exercise, but since I take blood pressure medication which lowers my heart rate I intend to use my own good judgment to determine my rate of exertion.
The machine is solid, but the maximum user's weight is listed at 250 pounds. I weigh 230 and feel secure. (Actually I feel fat, but that will change. The machine handles my size nicely.)
I'm starting with 10 minute workouts for the first week, so I haven't clocked much time on the bike yet, but so far I am really pleased. I think this machine will do the trick for me. The only negative is that my butt gets sore even after 10 minutes, but I attribute that to my newness to the saddle, not to the saddle itself - which seems well made.
If you are militant about workouts and a zelot about exercise equipment, then you may want to pass this one up. But if you want a simple, sturdy, home exercise machine to help you burn calories and to get into better cardio shape, then this machine is worth your consideration.

HealthRider Pro H500i Treadmill Review

HealthRider Pro H500i Treadmill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Never have I been treated so poorly by a company. I spent quite a sum of money on my Healthrider Treadmill, only to have it malfunction straight out of the box. I sat for three hours on hold only to have the tech agent read my manual to me. They then sent me out a new incline motor and outsourced the service work to a company that doesn't answer it's phone calls, set's up appointments, but doesn't show up for them, and apparently lacks the appropriate communication skills that it takes to run a business properly. Which leads me into week two of my treadmill gathering dust, waiting on hold with ICON for another hour after being hung up on by a Customer Care Agent (who I think was trying to put me on hold). This new Customer Care Agent then proceeds to tell me how ICON cannot control who it outsources to, they can't guarantee when someone will be out to look at my machine, and a whole slew of other "I don't know", "But Sir, we can't", comments. How can a company sell a product and then not care if the thing even works when the consumer gets it? I told the CCA that if my machine wasn't functional by this Friday (four days from now, almost three weeks from the purchase of the product) that I will want my money back and someone to come pick up this junk from my home. He tells me that they don't refund peoples money, that refunds go through the store that the item was purchased from. This does not register in my head. How can a company survive when it treats it's customers this way. How can they not take any responsibility for their products. They act like this is someone elses problem and it makes no sense to me.All in all, my advice to anyone looking at getting a product made by ICON Health and Fitness is go with another company. I'm sorry for the rant, but if this could save just one other person from the headache I currently have then it's worth it. Thanx, John

While many different types, styles, and price ranges of treadmills exist, many of them offer unique features like a fold-up design for easy storage, an electronic display monitor showing speed, distance, workout time, incline level, and burned calories, and EKG grip pulses to monitor the heart rate while exercising. Regardless of the simple to complex features you may choose, treadmills offer an array of aerobic exercise opportunities that will provide long-lasting beneficial cardiovascular results without a commute to the gym or a jog in the rain.

I thought I was purchasing a new item, the IRON MAN bike I received was obviously repacked and had been partially assembled. There was a well used box cutter inside the box. This wouldn't have mattered too much but the item was damaged (my guess that this is the reason it was returned).
I contacted Amazon about this they offered little beyond returning it to them. This would have been difficult due to my physical limitations, the condition of the now well used packaging and the weight of the item, so I contacted the US distributor Star Trac.
Star Trac makes you fill out a form to obtain warranty parts for an item that was supposed to be NEW. After more than 2 weeks I received the necessary parts.
I will not buy another item from them again.

The machine was missing 2 bolts that go into the top bracket under the control panel. We had to go buy 2 bolts in order to put the machine together. The other bolts on the arms coming up - the bolts would not tighten due to the holes being tapped too large - bolts would not tighten up - 2 of the bolts tightened up tight - the other 2 will not tighten up. Fortunately,I had someone who could put this together (I could not have done it myself). The manufacturer needs to review the assembly procedure and correct it. If you have someone at home that is mechanically inclined - have them buy the bolts and assemble - then, by all means, buy it!!
Perhaps the one I got was just a fluke and they forgot to put the bolts in this one machine (I hope so).

Ironman 1850 Elliptical Trainer Review

Ironman 1850 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this elliptical on sale for $550 of amazon.com with free shipping! Walmart had discontinued it so I'm thinking amazon wanted to match their price at the time. After Walmart sold out, the sale went away on Amazon's site, but you can find other place for it discounted as low as $600-$700 if you google it and click "shopping" for the results. At this price, I still believe its a steal.
I opted for this because most ellipticals in my price range say they have a max of 225lbs or 250lbs. I have read and experienced many ellipticals at this range that become wobbly because even though they support this weight, overtime I do not believe they are made for someone like me at 215 lbs. So I wanted to buy one that supported 300 lbs and they were all out of my price range, until I found this one that is.
It is about 200 lbs and they dropped it off my door, so make sure you have a hand card to wheel it into the room where you plan to keep (and assemble it). Assembly is very tedious as with all ellipticals, but for the first half hour of install, you will need another person to help you balance the main wheel while you install the feet on the bottom of it. Taking a step back - the machine comes with a bunch of parts wrapped in plastic. I took out each and every part and grouped them together with the Left and Right piece (the machine is obviously very symmetrical).
I then took the large packet of screws, allen screws, nuts and washers of all shapes and sizes and labeled them while they were still in the package with a sharpee. The instructions use #s to reference the pieces, so after labeling the large packet of bolts, etc - I knew exactly what step #7 was asking for when it said "apply arm with washer #135 and allen screw #118". This sounds like a pain, but it shaved off at least an hour in my opinion. there are many allen screw that are just a 1/4 inch longer than another set, and if you confuse them, you will pay for it later because you will need that 1/4 allen screw you used way in the beginning. So pay attention, label your screws, and lay everything out in a circle around you and the base.
NOW: assembly solo was fine after the two person help with the base. When finished I started using the machine. Very quiet, nice. However, once I start picking up momentum with my weight, it starts making a banging noise that is a bit loud. It doesnt do this for my wife when she uses, and I believe there is an issue with the elliptical. I have been calling IronMan for TWO WEEKS and EMAILING THEM!!!! They have NOT RETURNED MY CALLS. I can live with the banging noise, and I believe this may be due to a bit of a dent in the box on shipping - I am not sure. The dent wasnt that bad, so I still accepted the package. For the money, the elliptical is great even with the loud sound on each rotation at high speed and high weight, but no wobbles, just smoothness. If I can get the noise gone, I feel like this was the perfect steal.
I am taking two stars away for the lack of phone calls returned or any support from IronMan. That is just poor represenation of the company. Its a shame because I believe the elliptical is beautifully engineered and that perhaps it was dropped in transit - so not the manufacture's fault. Its just their support is a voicemail service that says it is not business hours (even when it is) and to leave a voicemail. TERRIBLE.
IRONMAN, please get some competent people in your office for customer support - this item supposedly has a lifetime warranty but if I cant get a return call from IRONMAN support, I guess its not worth anything.
