(More customer reviews)I brought this Dahon Glide bike before spring 2010 just to start to learn riding a bike (never own one before); and have been on it every weekend since it's deliver. Try it in the park, on the trial, on the road and even dirt road. Very smooth ride. Like I stated before, I am a total beginner in terms of bikes, def not a pro, but I can see the quality is super sturdy, and very well build. I have to said it's totally worth every penny for the style and quality. I lived in a small studio apartment, so space is very precious, every inch counts and that's why the fold up option is perfect for me, I can fold up the bike and store it in the closet. It's amazing how fast and small it become once it's folded. I can store it in the car trunk and take it anywhere. The ride feels more like a full size bike, can't really tell the difference if I did not mention it folds, people normally couldn't tell.
But I have two problem with it, one is that the handle bar height is not adjustable. Being 5'-3" tall, I feel that when I'm seitting on the bike, my body is leaning forward a bit too much when compare to the upright seating position on a regular cruser bike; the second is the bike is a bit too heavy (at approx 32 lbs), it's kind of hard to carry (or I should said drag) around - especially on stairs. Tt kills me everytime to walk up the 3 flights at home.
MY PERSONAL overall comment: Great bike for "Bigger" / taller people. I would not recommended for anyone under 5'-3" (my height). You will not be able to carry it around. Hope this helps for anyone who is considering.

(More customer reviews)A really terrific bike. I use it mostly in an urban setting, which its perfect for. I'm 6' so it maybe a tad small for my frame, but not really noticeable. One size fits all is what it is. I love it and wouldn't trade it for a newer, high end, traditional bike. I just leave it in my suv and take it out when I need it, no matter where i am. Crisp shifting, great breaks, solid frame, comfy saddle, and more versatile than anything i've owned. Great compact bike for a commute, trip to the market, or to go to the gym (12 miles away). Highly recommended.

New DAHON SPEED P8 FOLDING BICYCLE Review

(More customer reviews)The Dahon Speed 7 (upgraded to Speed 8) has been my vehicle of choice for years. Fold it up, put it in a large hardshell suitcase, take it to Mazatlan or Hawaii or wherever and ride around. (Roll up your clothing, put it in plastic bags, and pack it in the spaces in and around the bike. One checked bag, no bike fees, no hassles.) My next goal is to take it to Japan; some of the best level riding anywhere starts within a couple of miles of the Tokyo Narita airport. And in Japan, you can take it on the train (if it's under a cover).
Now, in our condo in Hawai'i, I keep one with a surfboard rack on it. I can surf any break within a mile or so of our place with no problem. On the South Shore (Oahu), this means Kaisers to Suicides and beyond. (I ride a 10 foot board, no problem on the bike.) Combination lock with an 8 foot cable; lock the bike to a palm tree and go surfing.
Also in Hawai'i: the bike has a rack on it, with a box. Ride to the supermarket, do all my shopping by bike. Don't have a car there; don't want one, don't need one.
Hills? I wouldn't want to take the Speed 7/8 on the Tour de France, for sure. But for any normal city street grade, it's fine. Very good gear ratio. If you know the road up to the overlook at Diamond Head, above the lighthouse, I've ridden up there on the Speed 7 (1 less gear) many times. Sitting down the whole way.
Traffic? The agility of this bike (short wheel base) has saved me several times where a larger, less agile bike would have failed to avoid some idiot opening a car door or cutting me off to get a parking place.
Back home in San Diego, a Speed 7 lives in the back of my car. Go to the beach, park the car, ride around.
San Francisco peninsula? Take the Dahon on the train, get off, unfold, ride.
Price and design? I researched all the other brands (Bike Friday, Montague, etc.). This is the best design and the most economical.
Try it, buy it, you'll like it. I can't say enough about this bike. Beats walking, beats driving, gets the job done. I had a full-sized, 21-speed Dahon and sold it--the small one is more practical and just as good to ride.

Dahon Speed Pro TT 2008 Folding Bike Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased my Dahon Speed Pro TT after a change in my commute that required me to start riding the Amtrak train each day. I didn't want to give up cycling to work, but didn't want a folder that would slow me down. I settled on the Speed Pro TT (2008 model) because of it's promise to fold down quickly and ride fast. Thus far, it has done this and then some. First off, this bike is fast. I find that, in most conditions, it rides just as fast as my high-end Trek road bike. While the small wheels felt a little dicey at first, I quickly learned how to ride on them AND realized that they gave the bike awesome maneuverability in city traffic and whenever I had to bail out on a side walk. The track-style handle bars are very comfortable and the bar-adjustment system that this bike has gives infinite positioning options. The bike folds very quickly and easily. The only flaw I have found is that it sometimes doesn't stay completely folded if turned on one side or carried in a certain way. To address this, I just keep a bungee cord with me at all times and wrap it around the wheels when folded.
I am seeing more and more Dahon folders on the streets of DC, and for good reason. These bikes are built tough, fold easily, and ride great. The Speed Pro TT is definitely an excellent option for any roadie who wants a good commuting/traveling bike to use when a full-size bike isn't a practical option. I have done rides over 25 miles long on my Dahon and found it to be exceedingly comfortable and agile.
Again, the bike adjusts quite easily to accommodate different heights. I am five feet tall (barely) and have been able to adjust both the seat and handlebars to fit me. I had a guy friend try out the bike and he was also able to adjust it easily (he is a little under 6 feet tall). While this doesn't give you the custom fit that a Bike Friday will give, it does fold down into a much smaller package and is lighter. I have had no problem carrying it onto Metro or the Amtrak train.
Needless to say, I have been very happy with this purchase. I use my bike daily and, thus far, it has withstood the abuse I have delivered. I fold and unfold it several times each day. You get a lot of bike for your money with Dahon and this bike is worth every penny and then some.

New DAHON CURVE D3 FOLDING BICYCLE Review

(More customer reviews)I *love* bicycles, and I really love folding bikes. Having owned several bikes, and several Dahons, I think I can speak about this one. Things I like.
- reasonable fold.
- reasonable weight
- decent ride. Remember, this is a smaller bike. Smaller bikes are a bit nimbler (some would say "twitchy") and smaller wheels have less gyroscopic force. This is a double edged sword. It makes it easier to accelerate (great for stop and go), but it also makes smaller wheels "twitchy". Bigger tires add some low-tech shock absorption
- 3 speeds. Its enough for shorter distances. I used to want more speeds (and I still appreciate it for my other bikes), but it really *is* enough for commuting and short (say 5-6 miles and under) distances.
- built in rack
- built in bike pump and fenders
- reasonable cost
- good build construction
- feels solid (for a folding bike, which is never as solid as a non-folder)
- simple, durable.
- the twin rack. it keeps the bike vertical,
Things I don't like:
- wish its fold was a bit smaller. Not bad for trains, apartments and offices. A bit big to bring onto a coach type bus. There's no way to squeeze it small enough between your legs and still get it behind a seat.
- a bit clumsy to carry. Like most dahons, the center of gravity doesn't line up w any comfie holding point. I usually hold it by the seat, but it just doesn't feel right.
- no easy way to roll it. Here to fore, my favorite folder is a Strida. More compromises, but when its folded, I just roll it along. This bike, you have to carry. Its a 25 lb suitcase, with no convenient handle. How far do you want to tote it?
- the twin rack. Its tipsy.

New Dahon Mariner D7 Review

(More customer reviews)I use this bike on my daily commute from New Jersey to Connecticut. I think it would be fair to say that this makes the trip from NY Penn to Grand Central Station faster than any other form of transporation including taxi and subway. I honestly don't know if I could do my commute without this bike.
As a person who's rode their fair share of bikes, I can honestly say that this thing is built to last. I've hit quite a number of potholes and uneaven pavement and have never felt like it was too uncomfortable. I've also dropped it a number of times and the worst that has ever happened is the chain has come off the gears and i've had to reset it by hand. Nothing out of the ordinary.
If I HAD to gripe about soemthing, it would be the ease at which it can be rolled around while collapsed. You can leave the seat extended and roll it balanced on one tire, but if you try and roll it on both tires in this way it's off balance. It's also slightly heavy to carry around for long distances. It's fine to run up and down stairs or through a train station, but anything more than that and you might feel some fatigue. But hey, if it's a longer trip than that, you should be riding it anyway.
Pros:
Quick and easy folding system. (I'm down to about 20 seconds to break it down)
Comfortable ride.
Works great as a portable seat when folded up.
Fits perfectly under a standard desk.
Having the extra gears (compaired to a 3 gear models) really comes in handy going up and down hills
Great conversation starter. If you ride this daily, people WILL come right up to you and ask you about it.
It's a beautifully designed bike. Very pleasing to the eye.
Chicks dig it.
Cons:
Slightly heavy, but it's cheaper than the titanium models. So that's to be expected.
Could have better balanced when rolling it around while folded.
People WILL come up to you and ask you about it. Sometimes even waking you up while you're napping on the train.
Using it daily will require that you semi-frequetly top off the tires. Say twice a month.

The first thing I noticed was that the bike was flat black. The second thing I noticed was how small this bike was in it's folded position.
The only thing I didn't love was the price. I wanted to take it back, however, there is a saying; "you get what you pay for." While I wouldn't pay $599 for a bike, the place where she purchased this bike offers lifetime repairs, free flat repairs and some other bonuses. In three years this bike will pay for itself.

(More customer reviews)I am a bike racer and mechanic. The S-1 is an awesome urban bike. The weight mentioned by another reviewer is an advantage, not a disadvantage, as this bike's chromemolly frame is virtually indestructible. The weight represents quality construction, and allows this bike to be ridden over potholes at 30mph downhill without breaking, day after day. You can literally throw it in an suv, and never worry about damaging it. The single speed makes riding it ultra-simple, and you get a GREAT workout when pedaling. Ultra-stable and a joy to ride.
If you want multispeeds or less weight, choose a newer Dahon, but if you want ultra-reliability and utility, this bike can't be beat. And at this price, you can't go wrong.
I motorize these bikes, and have never had a frame failure after 12,000 miles and 3 years on the same bike.
I hope Dahon keeps making them forever.

New dahon matrix 15" Review

(More customer reviews)This is a smooth riding bicycle with great shock absorption. Gear shifting is a breeze and the disc brakes are nice. I was a little disappointed to find out the handlebars and pedals have to be removed when folding the bike if you want to store it in the trunk of a small car. It's not a whole lot of trouble or that time consuming, but still not as easy to fold as my Dahon Espresso. On the other hand, the Matrix doesn't look like a folding bike. Would have preferred a wider saddle.
