Kettler HKS RX7 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Kettler HKS RX7 Recumbent Exercise Bike
Average Reviews:

We have now had this bike for about one month.
Pluses:
1. super quiet. You can ride it while baby naps.
2. very comfortable.
3. with a recumbent it is easy to relax and read
while riding.
Minuses:
1. It is inherent in a recumbent bike that it is
not so easy to work the heart rate up--too easy
to just relax and read. Still, if this causes you
to use it more, maybe that is not so bad.

Nautilus R514 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Nautilus R514 Recumbent Exercise Bike

I have had the Nautilus R514 for about 3 weeks now and it has been the best exercise machine that I have ever bought. The computer on it is easy to understand. You can go up to 16 levels as far as resistance is concerned. My husband and I have not really done a lot of aerobic exercise in a long while so we have our highest setting as level 4 right now, which doesn't sound like much, but is. He weighs roughly 290 and I weigh 170. I am average height og 5'6" and he is very tall. He doesn't have any problem with the seat settings. The seat is very easy to move to change between his and mine. The frame of the machine is very sturdy. It takes up a but of room as it is about 4 and a half to 5 feet long and needs about 3 feet of space widthwise. But we fit it into our living room alright. I have gotten tired of buying low-priced machines that do not last long so I decided to spend some more money and buy something from a company with a good reputation. I always used Nautilus machines at the gym I used to go to and they were always excellent machines. As I make progress with this machine I will write an addon to this post later this year. I definately recommend this product. Also, it was shipped very quickly and that was even with free shipping, and was in pristine condition when I received it.

I was looking for a recumbent bike to hold my weight. most bikes can only handle 250-300 pounds. I weigh more.. The bike is very big and sturdy. It could hold someone that is 400 pounds. It has everything you could want,as good as a pro bike. Very nice bike and reasonable price as well.

Schwinn 240 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

After months of trying to decide if we should buy an exercise bike, we finally bit the bullet. We went right down to Dick's sporting goods and even though they didn't have one on display, they did have one int he back. We bought the Schwinn 240 due to it being one of the newest models. Some of the things we really liked better were minor, but made the difference to us. The number of different programs were higher than the other models. Being able to remember a user's information was also a huge positive from other models where every time a different user uses the equipment you have to reset all your information. The cup holder not being under the seat but on the console made more sense and having the basket to store magazines and things just seemed neater. It took about 1.5 hours to assemble. Hint: A couple of the parts were already on the bike which was confusing when comparing to the parts list. The model is nice looking, smaller than our elliptical and easy to move around with the wheels. I haven't had it long enough yet to know how it will hold up, but it's very sturdy, very quiet and seems like it will last for a long time.

Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
CHOICE: I was looking for an indoor exercise machine that I would love to use on a daily basis, while taking in a show or read. Many reviewers of the upright Schwinn bike complained about discomfort, and owning a top-shelf Cycleops fluid trainer I know what that means, so the upright bike was not an option to me. I also passed on an elliptical machine because the bobbing would probably make it strenuous to watch TV and interfere with my motivation. So, having decided on wanting a recumbent bike, I picked this model even though there were no reviews at the time. I believe the #213 bike Schwinn 213 Recumbent Exercise Bike to be the older model of this (even though Schwinn ships both models currently), and it has gotten mostly good reviews.
SHIPPING: a lot of people had major problems when they ordered the #213 bike via Amazon (read the reviews, sort by lowest). I took the plunge anyway, hoping that my Amazon Prime membership would kick in (faster shipping often means less damage). The system gave me odd and changing dates all over the place (will ship in 2 days out, expected arrival one week out, ..) and there was only 1 shipping option (Standard). However, the bike was delivered via UPS within two days like I had hoped. The box was a bit "roughed up", held together with straps and it even had a small hole on one corner. Also, on the inside, some styrofam was broken; obviously the thing was dropped at least once. I wouldn't call it damaged though, and all parts ended up ok. Incidentally, I live in a non-elevator building, and to get the bike to my 5th floor apartment, I took it apart in the lobby, then walked up the stairs about five times with the parts. That worked fine, except for the fact that the bottom- piece was really heavy, but hey, it's about exercise :)
ASSEMBLY: in short, this was painless. There is a small booklet which explains everything step-by-step. Some pages look complicated because of the exploded parts illustration, but they're not - just read the simple instructions instead of focusing on the picture. All the tools and screws were included in a blister pack, and labeled correctly. The only small mistake I made was to forcibly connect the computer cable the wrong way (hint: the plugs are NOT the same on both ends, even though they look alike). I think it took me a leisurely 60-90 minutes to assemble the bike; if you have help or you mean it, you could do it in less.
BUILD: first of all, the bike looks better than I expected. More futuristic than industrial, and not all that ugly in my living room. Some parts feel a little cheap to the touch; for example, the front flywheel is housed in plastic which chips and cracks easily, the bike computer weighs nothing and has these foil buttons, and the "bio-whatever seat with lumbar" is entirely made out of foam, and nothing is adjustable on it either. I guess "lumbar" is not the same as "lumbar control", as in a car seat.
WORKOUT: this bike is *silent*. I couldn't believe it, coming from the Cycleops trainer, but the only sound I hear is my workout pants swishing- absolutely great to watch TV. When I pedal, the bike wobbles a little, which at higher intensities makes it more difficult to read a book that you put in front of the bike computer (there is a bracket to do just that). However, I must admit that the seat really is comfy, and it would be no problem to actually hold a book while working out. The bike computer has a few programs as expected (ride in the park, interval, plateau, etc.) plus manual mode and a somewhat useless BMI calculator. It retains the weight, age, and time you entered last time which is a convenient plus over gym machines. The range of resistance is great, from virtually none to definitely hard to push. The heart rate sensors, as I expected from reading the reviews on the 213 model, don't work very well: it takes about 40 seconds to display a realistic number once you touch the sensors. This is something that my Polar wrist watch does much faster (not to mention wirelessly and pc-downloadable, but of course at a price), so I use the Polar.
NITPICKS AND RECOMMENDATION: It would have been fantastic if the bike computer had a Polar telemetry option like most of the machines in gyms now do. Also, it would be great if the front tube could be folded back when not in use, because then I could hide the machine behind the sofa. But all in all, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this bike to others. I use it every day.

Save money on monthly gym fees and get yourself in shape with the compact, comfortable Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bike. The 230 boasts many of the high-quality features of the Schwinn 213, but adds several extras, including a nicer, easier-to-read instrument panel with a three-position angle adjustment, a slightly lower pedal height that produces a more comfortable riding position, and an easy step-through frame. And that doesn't even account for all the essentials, which range from 16 resistance levels to handlebars with an integrated heart rate monitor built into the grip.
The handiest feature, however, is unquestionably the anatomically designed recumbent seat, which not only offers a dual-position lumbar support for added comfort, but also a micro-adjustable fore/aft seat slider that accommodate a variety of body types and sizes. Other details include six preset programs (calorie goal, BMI measurement, recovery test, results mode, quick start, and manual mode), 10 profile courses, and transport wheels that both protect your floors and make the bike easy to store.
Specifications:
16 resistance levels
6 preset programs and 10 profile courses
Programs include calorie goal, BMI measurement, recovery test, results mode, quick start, and manual mode
Adjustable-angle LCD viewing console
Workout stats include time, interval time, RPM, watts, distance, pulse, speed, calories, and resistance
Wide recumbent Bio-Fit seat with dual-position lumbar support and slide bolsters
Wide comfort Schwinn Bio-Fit pedals
Quality recumbent handlebars with integrated heart-rate grips
Walk-through design
Reading rack and water bottle holder

Life Fitness LifeCycle 9500HR Recumbent Exercise Bike (Factory Refurbished) Review

Life Fitness LifeCycle 9500HR Recumbent Exercise Bike (Factory Refurbished)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Though I don't own this, I use the same model at my gym. I prefer the Life Fitness because I get an excellent cardio workout. My resting heart rate was recently measured prior to surgery at 53 BPM with a textbook EKG.
The stepping motion is preferable because it fits my foot, which is a size 13. The other stair climber that rotates actual steps does not fit my foot and I have to climb at an angle, which can be uncomfortable at times.
The features are fine though I don't measure my heart rate while using this fitness tool. I find the monitor location to be inconvenient. The other features primarily deal with some combination of stepping speed and time. The flights of stairs are measured in tenths until you hit 100 flights, then by single whole digits.
The only drawback that I can see is that it is not ergo-designed if you need to rest your arms as you climb. You need to place a towel on the bars in order to pad your arms. This can be a problem if you have a neuro dysfunction in your arm, such as ulnar nerve impingement (my problem). Otherwise, I would have given this 5/5 stars.
I should say that because I do not own this tool, I have no idea what the maintenance is like. How often does it break down, what are the common flaws, how expensive is it to maintain year over year? In other words, the cost of ownership should be considered before purchasing.

Life Fitness R3 Recumbent LifeCycle with Basic Console Review

Life Fitness R3 Recumbent LifeCycle with Basic Console
Average Reviews:

After owning a Life Fitness 5500R for 15 years (bought in 1995), I decided to upgrade to the the current "R1" (with the optional advanced console). While I was in the showroom, the salesperson convinced me to pay the extra $600 for the R3, primarily to get a seat with an adjustable back rest. While the seat looked better in the showroom (and felt better to sit in), when you get home and start a vigorous ride on the bike, your back presses into the mesh seat back, where there is a horizontal steel bar (inside the backrest that goes across the seat) which begins to dig into your back. If I could do it over, I would have bought the R1.
The R3 also has an internal generator that means you don't have to plug the bike into an electrical outlet, but that wasn't a significant factor in my decision.
I like all of the other aspects of the bike, especially:
1. Routines that work with a heart monitor (it changes resistance to take you between 65%-80% of your target max heart rate)
2. Allows for 2 user profiles, which keeps track of your calories burned cummulatively
3. Very solidly built -- feels like the bikes in the gym

I had reconstructive spinal surgery and have constant pain. This piece of equipment(I also purchased the shoulder flex and the bike attachments) is by far the least expensive and best, easiest to use, good for people in almost any physical condition, I have ever owned. Over the last 14 yrs I have spent thousands, treadmill, Nu step etc. Nothing comes close to this in variety of exercises and ease of use.

Magnetrainer Extended Range Mini Exercise Bike Review

i was originally going to get one of those $20 models, but reading the reviews cured me of that. after that it was between getting a cheaper version or this one. i am so very glad i spent the extra money.
you can barely hear the unit as you pedal along. all you need is enough clearance for your knees and you will start pedaling throughout the day. i even like it better than my gazelle walker and that is saying alot.
i was worried about the amount of tension that i could get from the magnetrainer but it appears to give me exactly the amount of tension i want. i am sure for people who are cyclists full time find it to have less tension than they want, but for a couch potato like me, i get quite a workout. i expect that this unit will help me get back into some shape other than "round".
for those that pedal hard enough to make it slide away even on carpet, the manufaturer offers to send you a free set of straps that you can attach to the legs of your chair. i opted for the straps and find them VERY effective in keeping the bike right where i want it.
Update:
i've started using my unit on a regular basis, 3 times a week, and already my blood pressure is back to normal, and my heart has stopped threatening to go AWOL.

I received this bike for a Christmas present. I had asked for it specifically after reading favorable reviews. (and, of course, based on the price!) It was pleasantly easy for my husband and I to put together and I jumped on it right away. The bike is quiet, the seat adjusts from very high to very low, even lower than what I need (I am 5'2"), and it feels sturdy. The battery powered screen has a place for your pulse, calories burned, time, miles, and speed. This bike is quiet enough to sit and watch tv while riding and you can hear your show just fine. My butt did get a little sore from the seat, but I got used to it. The bike is easy to move around with the wheels, however it does stay in place once you put it down. I recommend to anyone looking for an affordable exercise bike.

About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.
