I'm not used to things being easy to assemble, but this cycle was. Remarkable product, and I think I will use it, which as been the problem with previous exercise equipment I have bought. The box that arrives weighs 278 pounds...so be prepared to deal with that.

We have now had this bike for about one month.
Pluses:
1. super quiet. You can ride it while baby naps.
2. very comfortable.
3. with a recumbent it is easy to relax and read
while riding.
Minuses:
1. It is inherent in a recumbent bike that it is
not so easy to work the heart rate up--too easy
to just relax and read. Still, if this causes you
to use it more, maybe that is not so bad.

About Recumbent Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

After months of trying to decide if we should buy an exercise bike, we finally bit the bullet. We went right down to Dick's sporting goods and even though they didn't have one on display, they did have one int he back. We bought the Schwinn 240 due to it being one of the newest models. Some of the things we really liked better were minor, but made the difference to us. The number of different programs were higher than the other models. Being able to remember a user's information was also a huge positive from other models where every time a different user uses the equipment you have to reset all your information. The cup holder not being under the seat but on the console made more sense and having the basket to store magazines and things just seemed neater. It took about 1.5 hours to assemble. Hint: A couple of the parts were already on the bike which was confusing when comparing to the parts list. The model is nice looking, smaller than our elliptical and easy to move around with the wheels. I haven't had it long enough yet to know how it will hold up, but it's very sturdy, very quiet and seems like it will last for a long time.

Schwinn A20 Recumbent Bike Review

Schwinn A20 Recumbent Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
The A20 is the replacement for the Active Series 20 and Amazon has now corrected their product description to show the correct information for the A20. I haven't seen the Active Series 20 so I can't really draw a comparison and trying to get comparison info (I was trying to decide which one to buy) from the sales staff at Schwinn was impossible since the person I talked to hadn't even seen an actual working model of the A20 (let alone sat on one) and his information was limited to that which was presented on the website. I decided on the A20 since it did appear that they tried to make some improvements plus there's the issue of being able to get parts if needed in the future.
I received the A20 yesterday and both my wife and I have used it once. I will update in the future.
SET UP: There are very few parts to deal with plus all necessary tools were included and this was a pleasant surprise. I laid them out and checked then against the list given in the assembly instructions before starting assembly. Everything was present. I was able to put it together by myself but having two people would be a nice option. It took about an hour to put it together and the instructions were easy to follow with words and diagrams.
FIRST TIME USE; The seat adjustment was easy which was nice since I share the use of it with my wife (I'm 5'9" and she is 5') Both of us had an easy time using it so height wasn't an issue. Some of the new items included with this new model were the water bottle holder (which I don't use) and a book platform which is now part of the lcd platform (doubtful I will use it but if you do, you'll need a way to keep the book open as it rests on a fairly shallow lip). It also has an added built in fan and I agree with the previous reviewer that it's totally useless unless you stick your face within a couple of inches of it (what were those engineers thinking???)but at least you can turn it off. The lcd panel still doesn't have back lighting which was a complaint with the Active Series 20. I'm not sure if the newer one differs in size but it's okay to read with at least some light (window, lamp, etc). The lettering isn't very bold on the lcd which makes it a little more difficult in low light. A fairly easy solution would be to attach a book light to the lip of the book holder. The operation during use is very quiet and with solid stability. The seat and back are padded and was fine during my initial use. The resistance levels were very easy to adjust as were the different courses. The monitor takes 4 D size batteries(not included) but there is an optional power adapter (9v,500ma) you can get from Schwinn for about $25 (including shipping) Might be worth looking into this or some generic adapter and saving batteries and bucks.
This was my first time on a recumbent exercise bike and I loved it. It did exactly what I was looking for in an exercise bike. I think it's a great exercise bike and the price is very reasonable. One reason I bought this bike was because of the Schwinn name (I think Nautilus owns Schwinn and Bowflex)and so far I'm not disappointed.
4 stars because of the lcd (lack of bold lettering and back light)and useless fan. These are very minor complaints which don't affect performance.

Life Fitness LifeCycle 9500HR Recumbent Exercise Bike (Factory Refurbished) Review

Life Fitness LifeCycle 9500HR Recumbent Exercise Bike (Factory Refurbished)
Average Reviews:

Though I don't own this, I use the same model at my gym. I prefer the Life Fitness because I get an excellent cardio workout. My resting heart rate was recently measured prior to surgery at 53 BPM with a textbook EKG.
The stepping motion is preferable because it fits my foot, which is a size 13. The other stair climber that rotates actual steps does not fit my foot and I have to climb at an angle, which can be uncomfortable at times.
The features are fine though I don't measure my heart rate while using this fitness tool. I find the monitor location to be inconvenient. The other features primarily deal with some combination of stepping speed and time. The flights of stairs are measured in tenths until you hit 100 flights, then by single whole digits.
The only drawback that I can see is that it is not ergo-designed if you need to rest your arms as you climb. You need to place a towel on the bars in order to pad your arms. This can be a problem if you have a neuro dysfunction in your arm, such as ulnar nerve impingement (my problem). Otherwise, I would have given this 5/5 stars.
I should say that because I do not own this tool, I have no idea what the maintenance is like. How often does it break down, what are the common flaws, how expensive is it to maintain year over year? In other words, the cost of ownership should be considered before purchasing.

Life Fitness R3 Recumbent LifeCycle with Basic Console Review

Life Fitness R3 Recumbent LifeCycle with Basic Console
Average Reviews:

After owning a Life Fitness 5500R for 15 years (bought in 1995), I decided to upgrade to the the current "R1" (with the optional advanced console). While I was in the showroom, the salesperson convinced me to pay the extra $600 for the R3, primarily to get a seat with an adjustable back rest. While the seat looked better in the showroom (and felt better to sit in), when you get home and start a vigorous ride on the bike, your back presses into the mesh seat back, where there is a horizontal steel bar (inside the backrest that goes across the seat) which begins to dig into your back. If I could do it over, I would have bought the R1.
The R3 also has an internal generator that means you don't have to plug the bike into an electrical outlet, but that wasn't a significant factor in my decision.
I like all of the other aspects of the bike, especially:
1. Routines that work with a heart monitor (it changes resistance to take you between 65%-80% of your target max heart rate)
2. Allows for 2 user profiles, which keeps track of your calories burned cummulatively
3. Very solidly built -- feels like the bikes in the gym

About the Warranty This Life Fitness product is intended for home use only. Your warranty will be void if this product is used in a commercial setting.
About Life Fitness What started as one man's pursuit to improve his own physical condition, eventually turned into a global fitness revolution. That man was Keene P. Dimick, the mastermind behind the legendary Lifecycle® exercise bike. The story of Life Fitness began when two young entrepreneurs, Ray Wilson and Augie Nieto, saw the promise of Dr. Dimick’s invention. Even though it was slightly ahead of its time, they believed the Lifecycle exercise bike could help generations of athletes, trainers, exercisers, and people everywhere live happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
Wilson and Nieto bought the rights to the Lifecycle bike from Dr. Dimick, perfected it, and sold it out of a motor home to health clubs across America. Despite the overwhelming odds and initial unpopularity of the Lifecycle exercise bike, the two passion-filled pioneers turned a two-man operation and a seemingly impossible vision into a prosperous reality. Along the way, they shaped the future of Life Fitness as well as the fitness industry, bringing cardiovascular training into the mainstream and helping ignite the health club boom.
Today, Life Fitness is the global leader in designing and manufacturing a full line of reliable, high quality fitness equipment for commercial and consumer use. It is the number one brand of fitness equipment in health clubs worldwide.

Need a low-to-no-impact way to tone muscle, get your heart pumping, and burn calories? Turn to the Weslo 360 R recumbent exercise bike, which offers a smooth, frictionless resistance system that lets you adjust your workout intensity without interrupting your workout. Recumbent bikes are favorites of folks who don't like upright exercise bikes, as the former let you sit in a normal seat (as opposed to a bike seat) while still pumping your legs as casually or intensely as you like. More importantly, the bike offers several high-performance functions, including an RPM meter that tracks your revolutions per minute on the large LCD display--so you know when to pick up the pace or slow it down a little--and a pair of pacer programs to keep you motivated as you ride. Other display data includes workout time, distance, calories burned, pulse, and a large 7 x 10 workout matrix. The 360 R, which also includes an Easy Pulse heart rate monitor, is backed by a 90-day warranty.
