Schwinn A.C. Classic Indoor Cycle Trainer Review

Schwinn A.C. Classic Indoor Cycle Trainer
Average Reviews:

According to the Schwinn/StairMaster website, this particular bike does not have the Smart Release feature which allows the rider to stop peddling while the flywheel keeps turning. This bike works like a regular spin bike where the pedals and the flywheel turn at the same time. This can be dangerous if you're not careful. For example, if you try to do a sprint on the bike, when you try to slow down, the flywheel forces your feet to keep peddling. If you're not aware of this, it's easy to get hurt. If you are aware of this and plan your sprinting accordingly, then you should be okay. I had a regular spin bike (no smart release) called the Schwinn "Johnny G" Spinner Pro back in the day. It just took one near disaster to get my attention. Hope this helps.

CycleOps PowerBeam Indoor Bicycle Trainer Review

CycleOps PowerBeam Indoor Bicycle Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my CycleOps Power Beam Pro in January of 2009 and I have put hundreds of miles on it since. Getting all the sensors (heart rate, cadence, speed, power) calibrated takes some time, so don't expect to simply hop on and ride. Once you've set it up, you can control your workout right from the display panel on the handlebars -- no getting off to adjust resistance.
The computer will keep you working at a constant power output regardless of your speed or cadence -- this means very high torque at low speeds and the rear wheel can "chatter" as is slips against the resistance wheel. Just pick up the pace a few miles an hour and it will go away.
You can program in detailed workouts with the software at hand, but I haven't done so. The software also downloads your workout history and provides statistics. It has bugs however; my heart rate data drops out leaving huge gaps. My heart rate displays accurately and reliably on the unit, but the data fails to transfer over to the software on my laptop. I wrote Saris about this but got no reply. It would also be nice if the data format would allow you to export to other formats such as [...], or Garmin without going through a .csv file first.
I can't complain about customer service however. My resistance-adjustment bolt broke while I was shipping it. I wrote and asked for a new one (explaining it was no fault of theirs). They promptly shipped me a free replacement.
HITS:
Adjustable resistance on the fly, real time data on speed, power, heart rate, cadence, distance and time, data analysis capability via software, portability and customer service.
MISSES:
Pricey, Complex -- set up is not for the faint of heart, data drop-out in the software, proprietary data format (clunky exporting). The display unit, while functional, looks like it came from the '80s -- it lacks the slickness of say a Garmin ForeRunner unit. No back-lighting means it can be tough to read the display in a dark garage or basement.
Bottom line, I love the quality of the workout, and being able to dial a slope or power level. If you want to analyze your workouts, this is the trainer for you. Glad I bought it.

The PowerBeam features built-in PowerTap hardware, and offers real-time feedback on your power output. The PowerBeam will even self-adjust the resistance to maintain the desired target power setting. The resistance can be manually adjusted via a wireless handlebar console, and custom programs can also be uploaded via CycleOps' Power Agent 7 software. The PowerBeam resistance unit offers sustained resistance of over 1300W making this unit suitable for all but the most elite athletes. Please note that this model, the 9460, does NOT include the Joule 3.0 computer.

With Computer Keiser M3 Indoor Spin Cycle Stationary Indoor Trainer Exercise Bike Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I frequently ride a bike outdoors during the summer, but in the winter when the weather is not as good I often go to the gym to ride the exercise bike. None of the indoor bikes I had ridden ever had the smooth feel of riding outdoors - until I tried the Keiser M3 at a health club. I loved it so much, I bought one for myself for home use (the first time I've ever bought home exercise equipment as an adult), and while I've only owned it now for a short time, it is fantastic. Due to the unique design, utilizing magnetic resistance, the feel is very similar to riding outdoors. It is very quiet and very smooth. So I can spin at a fairly rapid rate and still get my heart rate up. And, though I don't do this much, you can also crank up the resistance and make it as hard to peddle as you would like (it has about 24 "gears" so you can continually increase the resistance to virtually whatever level you would like - what is really happening of course is you are simply increasing the magnetic resistance). This is a first rate bike for anyone who is serious about biking and wants something to use indoors that feels like biking outdoors. It is great exercise and does not feel like the typical gym or spinning bikes.
It was easy to assemble even for someone like me, who views changing light bulbs as a modest maintenance task. In total, it probably took about 30 minutes to set up and required little more than a Philips head screw driver, an Allen (sp?) wrench (which I have for my outdoor bike), and either a pedal wrench (again I have one) or an adjustable wrench that would fit the pedals.
Lastly, I would recommend ordering via Amazon or Keiser directly since some of the small third party sellers do not deliver on time. I would not buy from Indoorcyclingstore.com, who appear to be either terribly managed or are dishonest; we initially placed an order through them and six weeks later we still did not have the bike, but they still had our money.

The result of more than a decade of cycle development, the Keiser M3 is like no other indoor cycle you've ridden before. Keiser scrutinized and quality tested every single component of the M3, from the top of the comfortable handlebars to the bottom of the rock-solid base and everything in between. The centerpiece of the M3 is its eddy current resistance system, which offers infinitely adjustable resistance. This creates a vigorous, challenging workout along with a remarkably smooth, whisper-quiet ride. In addition, the cycle is built to last, as the resistance system doesn't wear and is virtually maintenance-free. And to keep you comfortable throughout your ride, the M3 includes a four-way adjustable seat (up, down, forward, and backward), dual-position comfort handlebars, and adjustable Shimano combo pedals.
The M3 is also equipped with a sophisticated computer system that tracks your rpm, power output in watts, kilocalories, heart rate, pedaling time, resistance, and trip distance. Other features include a gravity-based water bottle holder, an anti-slip belt, and a smooth resistance shifter. Designed with the needs of fitness clubs in mind but portable enough for the home, the M3 carries a three-year warranty.

I just got the bike in the mail, very easy to put together and smooth ride. Only problem, if you are an avid spinner the bike does not come with clip in pedals. Hopefully I can remove mine from an old bike. But all the part were there and after about 30min the bike loosened up and rode great.

Stamina CPS Indoor Cycle - 9300 Review

Stamina CPS Indoor Cycle - 9300
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a road cyclist who also enjoys spinning classes. I was seeking an indoor cycling bike for winter/bad weather training.
Pros about the bike:
I debated getting the Stamina CPS 9200, which has a 29lb flywheel. I'm glad I got this instead because at 40lbs, the CPS 9300's flywheel is just heavy enough for a solid IC workout. The belt drive on this bike is better than chain drive because 1) it's silent, 2) it's very smooth, and 3) it's maintenance free. Chain drive bikes require occasional cleaning and lubrication, which is fine for a road bike in the garage, but not an indoor cycle that sits on my light beige carpet. The large transport wheels are a plus, but not needed on carpet. I'm 5'4"/135lbs and can move this bike very easily in my gym. Finally, the seat is micro-adjustable horizontally, while adjustable in ~3/4" increments vertically. The handlebar is adjustable in ~1/2" increments vertically. Overall, once everything is tightened, the bike is very stable and solid even while stand pedalling. No wobbling in the handlebar or seat. I can get just as good a quality workout on this bike as I can on the commercial Spinner bikes in class. The simple bike computer that came with this was icing on the cake - it gives workout time and estimated calories, speed, and mileage. The bike was easy to set up at ~10 min to remove from the box and ~15 min to assemble with my husband's help. As is standard in indoor cycles, the "main frame", which consists of the frame, flywheel, drive train/plastic cover/crank arms, was already assembled.
Why it's not 5 stars:
Out of the box, there were 3 problems: rubber sleeve in the handlebar tube was broken, brake pad assembly was severely crooked, and the bike made a scratching noise. I tried to fix it myself with no luck. The company sent us a second bike, which was perfect except it made a different scratching noise. I had to unscrew and adjust the plastic drive chain cover to clear it from moving parts and this fixed the noise problem. The end product I have now runs perfectly, but took some extra labor on my part to get there. Two other minor issues: the bike seat is not confortable. Recall that I ride road bikes with skinny seats, but even with my premium padded bike shorts, this seat causes soreness around the sit bone area. The seat angle is adjustable only slightly. The other thing is that rubber coating on the handlebar is a little rough. I didn't have to wear bike gloves on the Spinner commerical bikes, but on this bike I have to either wear gloves or cover the handlebar with a towel.
Misc info:
The water bottle cage is a standard bike cage that fits all my cycling squeeze bottles. The plastic bottle that came with this bike is a cheap piece of trash. While the right crank arm is welded to the spindle, the left crank arm is bolted in loosely in the factory and need to be tightened with a socket wrench prior to extensive use or it will start to come off in the middle of a workout; but once tightened, it will stay on. The decals on the bike (brand/design stickers) are poorly applied - some are misaligned and some have bubbles. The seat horizontal position adjustment knob must be extremely tight or the seat will start sliding backwards during a workout. While the belt drive train is silent, the brake/resistance pad does make a little bit of noise when rubbing on the flywheel (as should be expected), but it's still much more quiet than a chain drive bike.
My experience with the manufacturer:
So after I quit trying to fix the three problems with the original bike, I called Stamina customer service directly. I got a live person in about 2 minutes and told them about the three issues. The customer service rep shipped me a replacement "main frame", which is everything except for the handlebar, seat, pedals and the feet/stabilizer bar at no cost to me. It arrived in 7 days and I didn't even have to send back the original defective bike. They said I can do whatever I want with it. The replacement main frame happened to have arrived with an extra seat, so now I have almost an entire bike's worth in spare parts.
Overall, I recommend this bike to anyone seeking a commercial quality workout at home.

Stamina 9200 CPS Indoor Cycling Bike
Average Reviews:

There are several nice features to this cycle. For one thing, you can mount any standard saddle and pedals. Computer mounting is fairly easy as well, with the magnet already mounted on the flywheel and a screw attachment on the front fork. Some users may find the bottle cage useful, but I removed right away to make it easier to step through -- swinging your leg over the saddle will more than likely bash your ankle on the seat adjustment bar. Both the seat and handlebar posts are a bit loose in the highest positions, but you can cure this easily with shimming. Overall, construction feels pretty solid -- the welds look good and the unit is reassuringly heavy.
What would have made this a 5-star choice would be an optional standard handlebar stem fitting. This would let me set up the entire unit to better reproduce my road cycles. At my height of 74", I find the stock handlebars uncomfortably low after about 20 minutes. Another, much more minor gripe is that the front rollers (for moving the unit around) are a little undersized -- it's easier to pick the whole thing up and carry it than to tilt it forward high enough for the wheels to roll properly.

Schwinn IC Pro Indoor Cycling Bike Review

Schwinn IC Pro Indoor Cycling Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to say that it is unnatural for me to write a review for something that I've bought on-line but for some reason this experience was significant enough that I feel compelled to share it.
Here are the highlights.
1) I wanted to surprise my wife with a Spinning bike as she is an exercise enthusiast and just didn't have the time to get to the gym. We have three kids.
2) I started searching on line, reading reviews, looking at websites, and decided to purchase a Schwinn IC Pro. I found a an offer on AMZ, through Warehouse Deals and paid about $100 dollars off of what others were selling the same bike for. This bike was new, but the box was damaged, hence the price reduction. The notes said it was factory sealed, so I figured GREAT...a new bike and I get to save a bit of $.
In a number of reviews, I read that folks were upset that the bike didn't come with the brake lube and the bolt grease. I didn't sweat it too much initially.
3) I ordered the bike, it shipped quickly, was delivered on time.
4) The day I received the bike, I unpacked it. Since I didn't have the lubes, I used white lithium grease on the bolts. That let me proceed a bit. What I was stuck on, however, was the inability to finish the job b/c I didn't have the break pad spray. HUGE BUMMER.
5) The bigger issue, however, was that the caliper breaks were misaligned (could even say that one was torqued a bit). This had me really concerned. The other problem was that there was a noise coming from the front sprocket - sounded as if the chain wasn't properly aligned. By this time, I was really starting to regret my purchase.
6) I called Schwinn and they could't help. Said that Warehouse Deals wasn't on the approved list and I'd have to go back to them for assistance. Emailed Warehouse Deals and they said they couldn't help but I could return the bike. The one positive thing I did get from Schwinn is that the brake grease they sell was ~ $15 plus shipping. The person I spoke with said I could go to any automotive parts store and pick up a similar product. I did and it cost $3.00. VERY HAPPY about that.
7) Anyway, I sprayed the brakes as instructed, let it sit overnight, tried to fix the alignment myself, but b/c the metal was torqued, I couldn't just adjust the problem away. By now I was getting really really frustrated. I decided to return the bike. That process when fine.
8) Once I decided to return the bike, I started doing some more on-line research and stumbled onto StarTrac. I REALLY like what I was finding. In fact, it sounds as if most of the commercial bikes that you find in gyms are StarTrac. This made me feel real good.
9) The one big turn off from the Schwin was the braking system. I really didn't like the calipers (brake pads push from the side. There were just too many alignment issues). The other big problem was that you really had to make lots of turns on the brake knob to get resistance. This was honestly going to be one of the biggest factors in my next purchase (which I made within a day of deciding to return the Schwin).
10) I had a hard time finding out if the StarTrac had calipers or a brake that pushed down on top of the wheel. I finally found a parts catalog on-line that showed the braking system and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The design is very simple..and I liked that.
11) I called StarTrack, spoke to the sales person. The price for these was a bit more than I wanted to pay but they were running a special. Probably due to the economy. Anyway, they were giving $100 - $200 off new bikes. I settled on the StarTrack Spinning Pro for two reasons. A) this model had waterbottle holders on the handlebars. I've actually really come to like this. It is very convenient. The pedals have one side with straps and the other side with clips. This is great as I would have had to buy these aftermarket. My wife uses the clips and since I don't have bike shoes, I use the straps.
12) I also got 4 free DVDs. Some are good, some are so-so.
13) The bike same, the box was badly damaged...ARGH!..The box was also upside down. I have to say though that the foam packing on this bike was much better than the Schwinn. As a result, the there was no damage to the bike.
14) I set it up in half the time. I since bought some bolt thread grease so I was prepared for that. This is actually better than the white lithium spray. I also didn't have to spay anything on the brake. I set the bike up in half the time was what it took to put the Schwinn together.
14) The box also came with a replacement brake pad and some replacement pedal straps. FEELING REAL GOOD NOW.
15) Anyway...we've used this about 8 times now and love it. I bought some other DVDs and the variety is very nice. I wasn't ready for how hard the first couple work-outs were but I'm getting better.
16) The only complaint thus far is that there is still a slight noise from the chain on the right sprocket. I called StarTrac and they said that it needs to loosen up a bit and will occur after about 10 hours of use. They say the chain has to stretch. If you turn the music up enough you don't really hear it, so it isn't a huge deal but if is doesn't go away over time, I'm going to call them back. Hopefully only a minor adjustment is needed.
Anyway...I've got to get back to work now...hope you find this helpful. I'm really pleased with the StarTrac..and would suggest that you strongly consider it if you are considering the Schwinn.

I chose free supersaving from amazon and the bike still arrived in three days - during Christmas week no less. The bike is extremely sturdy and accommodates both short and tall users. The parts are mostly assembled upon arrival so the assembly is quick and painless. You basically have to put together 4 major parts. No mess or confusion. Great workout! The resistance knob is easiy accessible and not tempermental at all. However, like all spin bikes, recommend a gel seat cover for a more comfortable ride.
Bike also comes with a nice touch....it not only has a water bottle holder, but it also comes with a water bottle. High recommend...especially for the price.

LifeSpan S4 Indoor Cycle Trainer Review

LifeSpan S4 Indoor Cycle Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The bike is well made but I do have three complaints.
- The pedals that come with the bike do not have the latches for spin shoes, only the harnesses that fit around a regular tennis shoe
- The bike gets off balance some time when the tension is fully engaged. I am about 220 lbs. I've never had this happen on bikes at the gym, but if I lean enough to counterweight it, things remain stable
- My biggest beef, and thus the three star rating, is the quality of the handle bar connections. The handle bars themselves are solid and the finish on them is perfect. The problem is they wobble where the adjustment dowel fits and around the spacing on the channel where the handle bars slide on. I am pretty sure I can shim it with something but just a bit more detail on the machining/casting of the parts would have made this near perfect for the price.
BTW, Their customer service was good as well. One of the pedals had a clikcing sound in the bearings and they shipped a new one out to us very quickly.

Upright vs. Indoor Cycling Bikes An upright exercise bike is designed for the user to sit on the seat and use built-in programming. When the flywheel moves, the pedals don't move without pedaling. An indoor cycling bike, by contrast, includes a heavy front flywheel that's designed to simulate the feel of outdoor cycling on a mountain or road bike. When the flywheel moves, the pedals also move. And unlike regular exercise bikes, which come to a stop when you remove your foot from the pedal, an indoor bike will continue to move. The result is a natural cycling motion that feels just like riding a bike outdoors. This means if you tighten the resistance and come out of the saddle as you ride, you'll feel as if you're cycling up a steep hill. Indoor cycling offers a number of benefits: it provides a time-efficient calorie burn; it tones your muscles and decreases body fat; it increases cardio endurance; it improves your overall strength; and it relieves stress.

Phoenix 98623 Revolution Cycle Pro II Exercise Bike Review

This bike is great gym quality for half the price of spinner NTX and schwinn. I used the NTX at the gym and other than the fact that te NTX is cooler looking, it preforms the same. If you compare the spinner pro/elite or the schwinn models to this one, they have basically the same frame, plus the braking/resistance pads on the pheonix is the same as the schwinn only with a couple inprovements.
The ntx resistance pad is a single direct pressure on the outside of the flywheel---which is esentially the same as a drum brake. A single pad with less surface area leads to increased wear and needing to replace the pad sooner. whereas the pheonix and the schwinn use 2 pads compressing the flywheel---like a disc brake.---increased resistance surface and better resistance, decreased wear on pads.
It is as sturdy and well build as the NTX.-even has the same handlebars--minus the bottle holders. It is heavy---130 lbs but has wheels for moving.
Only thing to consider is that the bike seems to be build for larger individuals. I'm 5'6" and anm only 1 notch away from being the lowest seat post adjustment and the seat is 1 notch from being farthest foward. So I'm thinking 5'4" should be the height requirement for this ride.
Seat that comes with bike is cheap-so take your seat off your normal bike and put it on this and note that the pedals are just medal with straps--not clip-on compatible but for the cost of a new seat and pedals-your still looking at 3/4 the cost of a scwhinn-NTX.
and note the all black frame is fun put your favorite stickers on.
Happy cycling.

The modern-looking Revolution Cycle Pro II is designed for an energetic and challenging workout, with such features as a direct-drive resistance system, an emergency stop brake system, and an adjustable seat and handlebars. Unlike with road bikes, the 39.6-pound balanced flywheel on the Revolution Cycle Pro II doesn't continue to spin if the rider stops pedaling. Instead, the rider slows the flywheel and controls the tension with a tension knob, helping the bike adapt to people with different intensity needs. The direct-drive system, meanwhile, lets the rider pedal either forward or backward during the workout, with a quick-stop handle serving as an instant brake for changing directions or in case of emergency. Most importantly, the Revolution Cycle Pro I is biomechanically efficient, with a two-way adjustable seat post that moves vertically and horizontally while you're mounted on the bike, along with an adjustable handlebar. As a result, you can drop the saddle down and out of the way to work the inner thigh, or perform other legwork off the back of the bike.
Other details include a heavy-duty brake pad resistance system with center-pull brake pads, front wheels for easy transport, sturdy toe clips made of the same alloy materials used in off-road racing, a heat-treated axle, a water bottle, and a weight capacity of 250 pounds. The Revolution Cycle Pro II measures 24 by 42.5 by 42.3 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 113 pounds.
About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

I used to do spinning classes with the high end bikes. When I moved to a rual area I got this spinning bike for at home use. I've had it 6yrs with no problems. The knob to go up a hill (faster or slower) is very touchy, you barley have to move it. For the price this is a wonderful bike!!
I highly recommend it.

Lemond RevMaster Sport - Black Review

Lemond RevMaster Sport - Black

This is a beautifully built spin excercise bike.
If you are not going to use it to improve your road biking skills and to stay in shape during times when you can't (or don't want to) be outside on your "real" bike, then you should be looking at some other type of cycle excerciser. This isn't for you.
The Rev Master can substitute for an add-on cycle excerciser that you use with your own bike. Because it is more compact and it's set up all the time, you might get more use out of it than you would from a bolt-on.
Although expensive, quality just oozes out of the Rev Master.
There are many nice touches - combination SPD/toe clip & strap pedals, a seat post adjustable for reach as well as height that you can mount a proper bicycle road saddle on, if you don't like the one it comes with (which is a pretty good one, in any case).
The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't adjust the (one piece) bar/stem high enough to suit me when the seat is at the right level. If you are younger/fitter than I am, this won't be a problem for you.
The only caveat I have about it is that you should try it out first to make sure that you can adjust it to fit you properly. There is a very wide range of adjustments but make sure.

Belt The RevMaster Sport uses a smooth Kevlar belt instead of a chain. The result - a smooth and QUIET!! ride. Our belt never needs to be replaced due to stretch, or oiled like the chain bikes do. Brake Pad Designed with the resistance pad on top of the flywheel for improved long-term durability. Brake and Resistance Designed for ease of use, the resistance knob adjusts easily. Just turn the knob to adjust (increase or decrease) the intensity of your workout. By simply pressing down on the same knob, the braking system activates quickly and safely. Micro turn adjustment allows smooth, safe transitions to higher intensity levels. Cranks Designed to withstand greater force loads than conventional bikes, the LeMond RevMaster Sport features an exceptionally strong custom BMX bottom bracket and cranks for exceptional product durability. Floor Levelers Easy adjustment for uneven floor surfaces. Flywheel Drop in mounting - easy service, no adjustments ever needed, easy to reach high RPMs with less "runaway" feeling and safe for knees. Frame This frame is more stable and allows fast, easy access to all seat, handlebar & height adjustments. This creates a comfortable, high performance custom fit for all users! Steel main frame undergoes a 17-step rust inhibitor process prior to durable powder coat process. Classic Handlebars (not original style handlebars) Traditional handlebar design which allows multiple hand positions and ease of use - does not accept Lemond RevMaster Pilot. Micro-Adjust Fit No more holes limiting adjustment options! Height and fore/aft measurement ruler marks allow for quick adjustments for a proper fit every time. Saddle Adjustment The numbered dual position seat slider for fore/aft fit provides more than enough range to properly fit almost any person, regardless of height. Transport Wheels Designed for easy transport! A rock-solid construction and the extra-wide base ensure outstanding stability.

We originally were trying to save money and so purchased a chain driven spinner for less than $300.00 in light of the really good reviews for that bike. It was loud, noisy, and the tension had very little range. We returned it immediately. I love to spin and have spinned on a Lemond Revmaster Sport, Star Trac NXT, Star Trac Elite, and the cheapest Star Trac model. The Lemond Revmaster by far is the smoothest one. It allows for micro adjustments, which is important as I am 5 feet tall and my husband is 5' 11". We decided to go for it and purchased the Lemond Revmaster Pro. It is well worth every dollar. It is smooth due to the fact that it is belt driven as opposed to chain driven. It has a large range of tension. It feels like a road bike for indoor use. The handlebars are ergonomically designed too! We love this machine and I would highly recommend it if you are serious about spinning. Spinning is a great low impact cardio workout. You can burn so many calories in just a 30 minute workout. Very efficient. I would not try to save money and get the best out there. I also did ad nauseum research before purchasing this spin bike.

The 4-way microfit also lets you cycle in an upright position or pedal stretched out and low, which is ideal for triathletes.
