This is probably one of the better treadmill's that you are going to find at this price range. In fact, the price is pretty good, as other sites have it for $100 more than what Amazon is offering it at (at least at the time of this review). I picked this one because of the Ipod speakers, the cushioning, and the 25 year motor warranty (Amazon says it's 7 years, but both Pro-Form's site and the instruction manual confirm it's 25 years). It's hard to find that kind of warranty at this price range (most you see will be only 5 years). It took about 1 1/2 hours to put together, and you will need two people to put the thing together. The toughest part is putting on the display/speaker unit on the top, as the screws were brutal to get in. A small electric screwdriver would be nice. The belt was already installed, and needed some minor adjusting.
The treadmill works well. It's not like running on a more expensive model, but there was minimal bounce when I was running on it. The locking mechanism holds the deck up well, but not perpendicular to the floor (it's at an angle).
Overall, not a bad treadmill. I hesitate to give it 5 stars only because I haven't owned it for too long. I will update this more when I have some more hours on the treadmill. By the way, the description mentions a different model (8.0Z?), but it was the Proform 490C that I received.
Update:
Some other thoughts on the treadmill after using it a bit more:
Speaker system for the Ipod is great. Plenty loud enough while exercising. Not much bass, but this is to be expected with such a small system.
Display - It's backlit, and provides info such as time elapsed, miles completed (such as 1.567 miles, etc.), laps completed (includes a display of a track as you complete each lap), current speed, and current incline.
Control panel - Has several nice features, including "quick speed" button where you can press the number MPH (such as 5MPH) and the treadmill will accelerate (or decelerate) to the selected speed directly. You can also input the speed at increments of .1 MPH at a time. I haven't used the incline as of yet, but it is adjustable through a panel button as well.
Exercise program - There is a "Weight Control Center" app that runs when selected via the Control panel. You enter your weight, calorie burn goal, and the appropriate program is selected for that goal. There are also a variety of other programs outside of the Weight Control Center that can be chosen as well, all with a variety of incline and speed.
Folding of deck - Really easy, doesn't fold completely flat, but supported well and does the job.

This is not a review on the specific treadmill. I am an owner of a bladez treadmill and I want to let people know that if your treadmill breaks down it is VERY hard to service. People don't carry parts for these treadmills b/c they are not well known. We had to order parts from BH North America - they charged us 123 dollars for 2 parts, and then when I called to find out where the parts were almost two weeks later they notified me one part was on back order. He could not tell me when I could expect the part - 'sometimes it takes one month sometimes six' was what I was told. There was NO apology for my wait, no response when I asked for a discount on my parts b/c of the wait, and most importantly no phone call to tell me that my part was back ordered (but they didn't forget to charge me!) I suggest looking at treadmills that are more popular...I wish I had.

Merit Fitness 715T Treadmill Review

I have had this treadmill for about a month. Setting it up was fairly easy and only one of the pre-drilled holes was not aligned perfectly. It was off just a tad so I had to work the screw a little more to make it go in. The treadmill is the most basic model this company carries, but they are very well known for high quality.
Pros
-VERY quiet
-excellent, smooth walking experience
-light weight (about 100 lbs) compared to others
-solid, quality product
-4 preset programs
-incline
-foldable
-the front handles are ideal for placing a board across so I can surf the net (2 mph) or watch a dvd (3 mph) while I walk.
Cons
-probably best for walking instead of running.
-The on button is in the front of the unit, low, where the motor is. It's a pain to have to turn it off and on everytime I want to use my treadmill. When I leave the on switch "on" it beeps at me every 5 min. to remind you to turn it off. I have never tried to keep it off for a long period of time to see if it will go into sleep mode or somthing like that. So it has to be powered down every time you use it.
-incline is manual (you have to get of the treadmill to adjust it by hand)
-the mph is in .5 increments. I prefer to be able to go up .1 or .2 at a time.
-no hydraulics when folding it up. If you drop the platform while trying to fold it, watch out, it will come crashing down and can cause harm. This is one area they should not have cut back on. Too much liability. I keep the platform down at all times so it is not an issue. However this can be a serious issue for an older person or someone who has children.
Overall I am very pleased with the product. I had to give up some of the extras to afford a quality machine. You could spend the same amount of money for something with a lot of bells and whistles, but you might end up with a loud, clunky machine with a belt that always goes off center all the time. That is a description of my last machine.
Update: It has been almost a year and I am still very pleased with my treadmill. I have not had to adjust the belt, it is not making any weird sounds or losing parts. It is still as reliable as the first day I got it. I actually have run for short periods of time and it works well with that, but I'm small (5'0 woman, healthy weight) so it may shake, rattle and roll with a large 6'0 man.

The first one we ordered came damaged. The plastic on the right of the belt was damaged. We finally got a replacement (takes about 10 days) and then that one worked for a day and then just stopped working. It happened during a run - the whole thing turned off. Now we are on our 3rd one and it has been running smoothly since. Not sure if I would order a treadmill online again. The savings is enticing, but the shipment is worrisome.

I love this treadmill!! I researched for quite a while before I found this walking treadmill...I received it three weeks ago and I've used it everyday since, sometimes twice a day!! It was very easy to put together, took about 20 minutes, the only thing necessary was to unfold the unit and attach the control panel!! The features are perfect for me, especially the wider 20" belt, I have mobility limits due to cerebral palsy and my gait is uneven...most treadmills in this price range are very narrow, this one works out beautifully for me...also I love the longer handles for getting on and off easily, the handle controls are great!! The control panel has just enough features, not a ton of bell and whistles like several other treadmills seem to have, just enough for what someone who's walking needs to know!! Also, I have not experienced any belt slippage which I was worried about, the belt is very secure out of the box, no adjustment needed, the length of the belt is great too!! The treadmill is easy to fold up, and doesn't require that much room when it is set up...very quite as well, I would describe it as a low hum when it's on!! The speed comes on at the slowest, and is easily adjusted from the handle controls...the timer is great, easy to set, and turns off the treadmill at the end of the session...simple but perfect!!
I am a Amazon prime member, so the shipping was free and the treadmill arrived on the day they said it would...the delivery person even helped bring the box in when it arrived!! I couldn't be happier with the performance, size, price or features...this treadmill was the perfect choice for me, or anyone who needs a secure place to walk and keep moving!!

LifeSpan Fitness TR100 Compact Treadmill Review

After WAY too much research for a treadmill that would best suit our lifestyle and what we hoped to accomplish, we decided to purchase the LifeSpan TR100 treadmill. We have been meaning to get back into a cardio regimen to support a healthier lifestyle and aimed to get something simple. We are not marathon runners, nor are we training for any type of athletic competition. We are starved for time and have become a little to sedentary, and we both came to the conclusion that we should keep up with a good walking routine for our health. We did not need all the bells and whistles that other treadmills come equipped with. This machine has everything we need and nothing we do not. It counts your calories burned and continuous heart rate throughout. Plus, the console uses a bright blue screen, which is very easy to read and the program display is VERY nice to see how far along you are in your program.
There is virtually no assembly required. All we had to do was take it out of the packaging and unfold it, simple as that. The unit is about 30 inches wide, and only 11 inches in height when folded up. We set it up in our bedroom, so there is no excuse for skipping a workout in the morning or the evening. It is so space friendly. We keep it set up unless we have company or other things going on, so we simply fold it up and place it under our bed. The unit is heavier than we both expected, but the wheel mounted frame makes it easy to slide and assemble. While this unit is very quiet, largely due to the fact that we just speed walk on it, the stability of the machine was the biggest surprise as the console does not shake like other treadmills we tested at Sears. We are very happy with our purchase and it is serving us well.
J.F.

Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill Review

Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After using this for a couple of months, I'm raising my rating to 5 stars. This is one of the best purchases I've made, the only exercise machine that I look forward to using. You don't need all of the extra programs, bells and whistle to get your heart pumping and your sweat glands pouring. This device easily fits in our kitchen, opposite a countertop TV and JBL iPod speaker (much better than the built-in one with this or any other treadmill), and I've come to feel unready for the day ahead until doing my 30 minutes on the single automatic program. I've progressed from being able to walk at 3.5 mph to 4.5 mph and am feeling the overall aerobic benefits more each day. Now if I only had as much motivation to use Total Gym and all of the other neglected gadgets I've collected!
A treadmill (providing it has a motor) is the best exercise device you can own, and this one is certainly the "right" product if you've become discouraged after reading reviewers' stories of requiring 3 or more assistants to move their new treadmills to the basement. Or if you were contemplating a budget model until reading horror stories about its assembly, this may again be the ticket. It's compact and it's pre-assembled.
I wouldn't go so far as to call it "portable." It's the biggest piece of exercise equipment I've ever owned, and it's sufficiently heavy to make folding and unfolding seem like a chore. (I'm afraid that if I had to fold it up every night and stash it vertically behind a door or slide it under a bed, it would see too little use to be worth the investment.) Otherwise, it works just fine as a "walking" treadmill (runners would probably be better advised to look for a machine with a wider and longer belt). I'm no expert, but the belt seems smooth and quiet, the foundation solid, and the read-out and controls clear and user-friendly. The belt isn't quite as "cushioned" as those of more expensive machines, there isn't any fan for cooling down the walker, and the two speakers for an iPod or stereo MP3 player are, imo, simply too lame to be useful.
The actual "negatives" are few: 1. I wish the electrical connection was at the rear instead of the front of the machine and/or that the cord would be long enough (a couple more feet would do it) to reach the electrical outlet on the wall behind me (the instructions say don't plug the machine into a power strip, yet the length of the cord doesn't leave you much choice). 2. The otherwise helpful and clearly written instructions make no reference whatsoever to operation of the built-in stereo speakers, which may be understandable: the audio quality might be compared with a pair of cheap AM radio speakers. 3. Rather than waste the space, better there be an additional program, besides Manual and a single 30-minute automatic one.
Regarding a couple of other complaints: It's true that, once the machine has completed it program, you can't read your "progress" on the read-out, but if you simply press stop just prior to the end of the program, get off the machine for the last 10 seconds to jot down the reading, then press start again, voila--all of the settings are preserved). As for the heart rate monitor, unlike other users I've found it "somewhat" effective providing I remove my thumb from it every now and then. My problem is trying to determine what the heart rate numbers actually "mean" (the instructions provide an explanation that's ultimately unhelpful--remember, those no way the user can "input" the statistics--like age and weight--that are essential to computing useful heart rate numbers). So best pick up a separate monitor (the treadmill's read-out was consistently 70-80, so I was shocked when, after purchasing the inexpensive Omron monitor, the number that came up was 145, just 5 beats short of my theoretical maximum!).
[Addendum (a cautionary): As mentioned, there is only one automatic program, which I didn't try until the 6th day. It's 30 minutes, with speeds varying from 2 mph to 4 mph (unlike Manual mode, it doesn't observe 10ths or even half-mile settings). I wasn't prepared for using the belt at 4 mph and it actually "body-slammed" me to the mat at this speed, which is probably the "break point" between extremely fast walking and jogging. Approximately a quarter of the auto work-out occurs at the higher speed (I have little use for "over-produced" treadmills, but it would be nice to have 2-3 more automatic programs, especially with circuit boards having become so miniaturized and inexpensive for manufacturers to install). Finally, you may wish to ignore the instructions advising you to do a stretching routine before using the treadmill. (I'm sure I would use the machine significantly less if I added that "psychological" barrier.) Warming up at 2 mph should be equally beneficial (just don't plan on drinking a cup of coffee while in motion--it's been tried.]
[Set-up: Not included in the manual but appended to the machine is a small ticket telling you to allow the machine to run for 60 minutes before first use. Take it seriously. If, like me, you missed it and find the belt too far to the right or left side, follow the instructions in the manual. Above all, be patient, or the belt will soon be too close to the other side. It requires 30 seconds or more for the effects of a quarter-turn adjustment by the user to be noticeable in the positioning/operation of the belt.]

The T202 is a nice machine and I would buy again. I'll point out what needs improvement
1. Like all treadmills I have tested, the percent incline is not accurate. Advertised as 12%, it's max incline is only 6%. Not sure is this is incompetence or deceptive on part of the manufacturer.
2. It beeps loudly and repeatedly when switched on. Also beeps loudly when changing a setting.
3. Although calories burned are given, there is no place to enter your weight. So this is useless unless you are of the weight they use in their formula.
4. Pulse meter is good. But takes 8 seconds to give correct measure. Before that, numbers are way off; no info should be displayed while correct value is being derived.

We purchased the machine and the shipping was very quick. The treadmill was easy to set up and beginning maintenance was well explained. My wife ran on the treadmill for a half hour with no problems. I tried to use it right after her and it wouldn't work. The machine was displaying an "E1" message on the instrument panel. We emailed the company whom we bought it from and they gave us a list of things to check for. After checking over the items that the customer service gentlemen told us too, the treadmill still didn't work. We called the customer service line and they told us a technician would be out to help since the machine was under warranty. 3 weeks later we finally heard back from the service technician and he claims he can't come out until he gets a warranty purchase order from Merit Fitness. So to make a long story short, we've had the treadmill for a month and have only been able to use it once. Who knows how long it will be before it's fixed.
