Schwinn 820p Treadmill Review

Points to note:
1. Shaking
Although assembled correctly, this treadmill shakes. The faster the speed, the more it shakes. At only 3.5 mph, my water bottle begins to move back and forth in the holder. At 4 mph, it goes flying off. There is also a ridge for placing a book, but I don't see how anyone could read with a book jerking all over the place. There is nothing that can be made any tighter to stop the shaking.
2. Bucking
The second time I used the treadmill, the belt would suddenly buck forward for no reason. I now have to hold on for dear life so that I don't fall when it bucks. The manual gives you a few tips for dealing with this problem, but they don't work.
3. Malfunctioning Heart Monitor
The grip heart rate monitor doesn't work correctly. It just arbitrarily gives you a heart rate of its own choosing. During a workout it might say 150, then 80 bpm a few seconds later.
4. Short in Height
I'm of average height for a woman (5'5") and I can grip the handrails with my arms fully extended straight down. A taller person would not be able to grip the handrails without bending over. Also, a book placed on the book rest would be pretty far away for a tall person to read comfortably.
5. Hard Surface
This treadmill boasts "Strike Zone deck cushioning, which is kind on your joints in your lift-off and landing motions (while also absorbing shock)." I'm not sure what they're talking about, as the deck surface is so hard it's like walking on concrete.
6. Huge packaging
I uploaded a picture to show the size of the box. It's huge. Set-up and delivery was not an option when I ordered this. In fact, the delivery company would only deliver to the front porch. The deliveryman was kind enough to bring the 220 pound package inside for me, but you might not be so lucky. And getting it to the basement was still a problem. This could only be accomplished by removing the packaging--which then meant the treadmill was mine forever, as it couldn't be sent back. Even so, it was not an easy task to transport it.
All in all, I can't believe I wasted $1300 on this inferior product. I don't recommend it to anyone.
Edit: About 6 months after I wrote this review, I was contacted by someone from Nautilus. (Note: this was only AFTER Amazon secured my permission to pass on my personal information). He explained that he was sorry I didn't like the treadmill, as I had obviously gotten a lemon. As a gesture of goodwill, he offered to ship me another treadmill FREE OF CHARGE. Since I didn't care for the Schwinn 820p treadmill, he sent me a Bowflex instead. It arrived at my door a few weeks later and I love it. I did not have to return the first treadmill. I was impressed by Nautilus' customer service, as they were under no obligation to send me anything, and they did so based only on a review on Amazon. A+ for them.

Bowflex TC5000 Treadclimber Review

We love this machine for some reasons, and don't like it for other reasons. I'll explain below.
ASSEMBLY:
We assembled this machine ourselves. The assembly instructions were fairly easy to follow. Two persons must work together to lift and assemble some parts. It took us about 2 hours to put the machine together.
IMPRESSION:
We chose this machine because of its compact size. The space available in our home does not allow room for a treadmill or elliptical machine.
We feel great, invigorated, and sweaty at the end of each workout on this machine.
My husband says that this machine gives him a more vigorous workout than regular treadmills.
USAGE AND RESULTS:
Since 2006, I've been using this machine 5 days a week for 35-45 minutes, at medium speeds ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 mph.
For nearly 2 years, my husband stuck to a fast-paced (3.5 to mostly 4.0 mph), 5-days-a-week, 80-minute regimen. He now reduces the workout to 3 days a week
Before buying this machine, we were in good health. Now, we're in excellent health, God willing.
I've lost about 3 lbs. My husband has lost about 7 lbs. We've toned up visibly over the last 2 years, but not entirely because of this machine.
After each Treadclimber workout, we add 30-40 minutes of lifting weights (25-50 lbs).
When time and energy permit, I also add a 10-15 minute abdominal exercise, and about a 25 minute Taebo workout to my daily routine.
RESISTANCE LEVEL:
We started at the lower resistance levels. Within a few weeks, we quickly progressed to the maximum setting.
Since then, we leave the resistance at the maximum level. We feel no need to interrupt any workout to adjust the resistance level.
FUNNY NOISES:
We put a rug under our machine for cushion and noise reduction.
When we began to use this machine, the right hydraulic piston made squeaky noises. Terribly annoying.
We sprayed silicon oil on all the hydraulic joints we could think of. But the noise continued.
After a month or so, we sort of became tone-deaf to this squeak. Eventually, it disappeared.
Thereafter, from time to time, we hear unusual noises from the machine. Not loud, but clearly noticeable.
Out comes the silicon spray can. A squirt here. A squirt there. Silence restored.
If you own this machine, arm yourself with a lubricant spray can, and prepare for sporadic battles to vanquish weird noises.
MOTOR:
After almost 2 years of usage, our machine broke down. The odometer reading was 49,400. (This is the number that briefly flashes on the console after you insert the safety key.)
Through the phone, Bowflex customer service department walked us through different diagnostic steps to pinpoint the source of the problem.
Yes, one needs to be next to the machine (i.e. at home) while calling in for help. Calling from work is futile without the machine.
The final verdict? The motor died, within the 5-year warranty period. Thank God.
We weren't happy to learn that the warranty covers parts, not labor. Customers must replace the parts themselves. This is an important point that you need to keep in mind, if planning to buy a treadclimber.
After our machine was kaput for 5-weeks , the motor finally arrived. Without instructions. Perhaps a shipping oversight. Again, we called Bowflex. They sent the instructions by e-mail.
We're the do-it-yourself type. In spite of previous engineering degrees, we found the written instructions hard to follow. But the photos in the instructions were helpful.
It was a great challenge to replace the motor. The most difficult part was pulling the tight, new drive belt over the roller pulley and motor flywheel.
Without my husband's muscles, there's no way I can do the work myself. Together, we spent over 3 hours on this project.
BELT:
We keep the treadles and belts regularly lubricated, even more often than instructed in the manual.
Almost immediately after we installed the new motor, the belt on the treadle began to make a scraping noise.
We squirted silicon oil, and adjusted the belt tension. But the noise got worse and more annoying.
When the odometer reached 49,600 or so, the scraping sound progressed to a loud screeching noise.
The belt was tracking excessively to one side, and scrape against something under the treadle.
Again, we called Bowflex customer service. We had the number memorized and on speed dial by now.
The customer service representative told us to adjust the belt tension. Several times. No good. She could hear the screeching noise over the phone.
The final diagnosis? The belt got old, and over stretched. So, they sent new belts, under the 3-year warranty. Thank God.
A few days later, a set of new belts arrived. With instructions this time, luckily.
Unfortunately, the belt replacement instructions is a complete enigma.
No pictures. No drawings. No idea what they're talking about.
Again. Two laborers. Two engineering degrees. Much head scratching and muttering. Many cuts, scrapes, and grunts. More than 4 hours later. Two aching backs. New right belt.
The left belt? It's worn, too. But not making any noise yet. And we had no energy left to replace the left belt.
The left belt is tougher to replace than the right. We must remove the drive belt, roller pulley, and motor flywheel to remove the left belt.
With fresh memory of our struggle with these parts, we want to leave them in peace for now.
So, we're walking very carefully on the left belt, and hope to delay its replacement as long as possible.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
If you buy this machine, guard the receipt with your life. When problems develop, to get parts under warranty, you must first fax your receipt to Bowflex.
Their customer service department is open on weekdays, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST.
This meant having to juggle our work schedules to be at home during the times that we contacted Bowflex.
You need to be next to your machine when calling Bowflex for help. Their customer service representative will walk you through certain steps.
You'll have to follow each step, and describe over the phone what your machine is doing.
It's like getting your car mechanic to figure out, over the phone, what's wrong with you car.
He'll send you the replacement parts and instructions. Although in English, some written instructions make absolutely no sense to you.
At the end, you'll have to take your machine apart and fix it yourself.
Below is our tally of contacts with Bowflex after our machine broke down.
-13 phone calls to Bowflex - too many wasted hours to recall without pain.
-10 days delay for Bowflex to return our 1st phone call.
-9 Bowflex representatives - some inept, 2 helpful, 1 knowledgeable.
-3 wrong diagnoses (replacement of speed sensor, jumper wire, and circuit board).
-3 failed attempts to take the machine apart pursuant to wrong diagnoses.
-1 correct diagnosis (motor replacement), finally given by the 6th representative.
-1 shipment delay due to bad data entry - wrong shipping address.
-4 e-mails sent to 2 representatives - no reply received.
-3 weeks delay for new motor - part not available.
-1 run-around attempt to get supervisor's contact information - wrong information given, still no clue who's the head honcho of customer service.
The above is the good, bad, and ugly account of our experience with our TC 5000 Bowflex Treadclimber over the last 2 years.
We hope that you find it helpful in your decision whether to purchase one for yourself.
April 23, 2008 Update:
We tried to replace the left belt, but ran into a problem. We couldn't remove some of the button head screws. They got stripped without budging. Really bad quality screws. We looked for the manufacturing label on the machine. Made in China. Didn't surprise us.
We spoke to 3 Bowflex customer service representatives. None had any idea how to deal with the problem. We ordered replacement screws. As advised by our local hardware store, we'll try a screw extractor when the replacement screws arrive.

HealthRider Pro H500i Treadmill Review

(More customer reviews)Never have I been treated so poorly by a company. I spent quite a sum of money on my Healthrider Treadmill, only to have it malfunction straight out of the box. I sat for three hours on hold only to have the tech agent read my manual to me. They then sent me out a new incline motor and outsourced the service work to a company that doesn't answer it's phone calls, set's up appointments, but doesn't show up for them, and apparently lacks the appropriate communication skills that it takes to run a business properly. Which leads me into week two of my treadmill gathering dust, waiting on hold with ICON for another hour after being hung up on by a Customer Care Agent (who I think was trying to put me on hold). This new Customer Care Agent then proceeds to tell me how ICON cannot control who it outsources to, they can't guarantee when someone will be out to look at my machine, and a whole slew of other "I don't know", "But Sir, we can't", comments. How can a company sell a product and then not care if the thing even works when the consumer gets it? I told the CCA that if my machine wasn't functional by this Friday (four days from now, almost three weeks from the purchase of the product) that I will want my money back and someone to come pick up this junk from my home. He tells me that they don't refund peoples money, that refunds go through the store that the item was purchased from. This does not register in my head. How can a company survive when it treats it's customers this way. How can they not take any responsibility for their products. They act like this is someone elses problem and it makes no sense to me.All in all, my advice to anyone looking at getting a product made by ICON Health and Fitness is go with another company. I'm sorry for the rant, but if this could save just one other person from the headache I currently have then it's worth it. Thanx, John

Verso by Kettler TX3 Folding Treadmill Review

(More customer reviews)My husband and I are members of an expensive New York gym and we love to run a few times a week. On the weekends, we love the flexibility to run at home or not run outside in the cold. We own this treadmill for over a month now and chose this model because of the low deck height (5.75") and it's perfect for our basement with low ceiling. The no-shipping-cost from Amazon was great and it was delivered in less than 2 weeks.
At least three people were needed to move and lift the deck off the box. The incline automatically popped open when we lifted it and we couldn't figure out how to lower it. The motor cover also cracked during lifting and ripped from the screw hole. We laid the treadmill sideway in the middle of the living room until we could figure out what to do with it. The instruction manual is poor and without a number to call customer service. Amazon CS was great and gave us a Kettler's phone number.
Kettler customer service then told me that it would cost $69 to replace the motor cover and laying the treadmill sideway could damage the motor or the unit. Well, why didn't they say so in the instruction? There should be a big bold print of UNIT MUST BE UPRIGHT. Kettler CS was very professional and helpful. Did I mention that the instruction manual is poor? The text is barely readable and the drawings of the parts are smaller than a dime size. Some parts are also labeled incorrectly on the manual. I had to guess which wire to connect together and since I am used to assembling IKEA furnitures, I was able to figure out this assembly in an hour.
When the treadmill is fully assembled and running, it was making a squeaking sound. The right end cap was too close to the belt and it was literally scraping against the belt. This is clearly a design flaw but customer service said I must have damaged it by laying it sideways and offer to send me a free replacement. Upon looking at it closely, it is a design flaw and not from our mishandling. This treadmill is more headache than fun and I was tempted to just return it. I was able to fix the broken motor cover with crazy glue and some washers for the screws. I "fixed" the end cap by putting more washers under the screws to lift the plastic from touching the belt.
The problem is not entire resolved yet. The treadmill now squeaks elsewhere. It turns out that our floor is not perfectly level. One corner is 1/8" higher. The squeak was so annoying that we had to put some lubricant to deck wheels. It still squeaks quietly when running on flat surface. When on an incline, there are no squeaks.
All in all, given the price of this treadmill I will probably buy a different model next time around. I really want to like this treadmill and did not want to go through the hassle of returning and possibly getting another one with the same problem. What we like about this unit is that it does run very smoothly. It is comparable or better than the treadmills at our gym.

Bowflex TC3000 Treadclimber Review

(More customer reviews)I got my machine earlier this year. As the other reviewer indicates, at first I really didn't like it. It was awkward and hard to use. I was really worried.
The second time I used it I slowed down the speed and worked on getting the feel for the machine. On a treadmill I always walk at about 4.5 MPH. So I set this machine initially to 4.0 MPH. That is much, much too fast for a beginner. (Don't worry it is still a good workout at 3.0 MPH.) That did it.
Now it is the easiest and best exercise machine I have ever used. I get a better workout than a treadmill with lots less stress and pain in my knees. It is more natural for me than an elliptical.
If you get one of these, you will love it. You just have to stick to it for a few times (it took me two workout sessions) to master it.

(More customer reviews)I owned a Bowflex Series 7 Treadmill for a couple of years. It was repaired several times after suffering mechanical and electrical problems, but never again ran properly. After disappointing customer service with Bowflex (Nautilus), I replaced it with a Sole F80. When comparing my ownership experience with both treadmills, I recommend the Sole F80.
Bowflex Series 7:
a. 20x60 running surface (better for tall runners)
b. 3.0 hp motor gets belt to full speed in about 2-3 sec
c. no countdown before belt begins to move
d. stylish console, but not as easy to use
e. no speed or incline controls on handles (only on console)
f. metallic handrails (causes static electricity shock)
g. must tip/lean treadmill backwards to move (dangerous!)
h. warranty: 10 yrs motor, 2 yrs electronics, only 1 year labor
Sole F80:
a. 20x55 running surface (good for most people)
b. 3.0 hp motor gets belt to full speed in about 6-8 sec
c. 3 sec countdown before belt begins to move
d. console not stylish, but functional and easy to use
e. speed and incline controls located on handles AND on console

Delivery of large box is supposed to be made inside front door or garage. Both times, I gave the delivery person a generous "tip" for their prompt delivery service, and both times the treadmill was generously brought down into my basement. Delivery drivers were quite pleasant both times.
Assembly for both treadmills was relatively easy and both treadmills took just under 2 hours to assemble (screwing in hand rails on BOTH treadmills can be tricky-need to make sure you don't puncture and/or pinch console wires!). All necessary tools were supplied for both.
The Bowflex Series 7 and Sole F80 both have powerful and quiet 3.0 hp motors.
The decks on both feel about the same when running/walking on them. Neither deck is "whisper quiet" when running on it. To me, the deck of the Bowflex Series 7 was slightly louder (a problem that became progressively worse during my ownership of the Bowflex Series 7). If you're a taller runner (over 6 feet tall) or run with a long stride, then the F80's deck may be a little too short for you (or course, Sole makes a longer treadmill for a few hundred dollars more). But for most of us who walk/jog/run on a treadmill, the Sole F80 is a very good size and fit.
I can see why hotels use the Sole F80 treadmill. First of all, the F80 has a much better warranty (about double of what Bowflex offers). Also, from a safety or "hotel liability" standpoint, the Sole F80's has better user-friendly features such as: (a) 3 sec countdown before belt begins to move (avoids surprises/injuries); (b) belt takes 6-8 sec to get to full speed (avoids surprises/injuries); (c) easy grip handles with rubber compound (remember: most people grab the handles when they get into trouble!); (d) speed/incline controls on console AND handles (really easy to use controls on handles when running or walking); and (e) no need to tip or lean treadmill backwards when moving (easy on your back, plus treadmill won't fall on you).
Had I done my homework the first time, I would have initially bought the Sole F80 instead of the Bowflex Series 7. Although the Bowflex Series 7 was highly recommended, it did not hold up well over time. If you are considering a folding treadmill for under $1,500.00, you should consider the Sole F80.

As soon as it was delivered, I saw how massive it is. It weighs 550 pounds! This made my old "heavy duty" 298 pound model look like a toy. After setting it up in my basement with the help of 3 very strong friends, I realized the quality of the unit. It has a 3.5 hp motor, 3 1/2" rollers, heavy duty 20 x 60" belt, and a 350 pound weight capacity. It has an LCD TV and many other features including a wireless heart monitor. The operation is very smooth and quiet. I believe it will last many years with hard use. I gave it only 4 stars because the television doesn't come with integrated speakers. You must plug speakers into the headphone jack to hear sound. Otherwise, the build quality, price, and features earn it a definite 5 stars!

Precor 956 w/HR Treadmill - Remanufactured Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased my Precor 9.21i over 8 years ago and have used it almost daily since then. It appears this model is an updated version of that machine, so it should give you some idea of what to expect. There have been no maintenance problems; once a year, my husband takes the front cover off and vacuums it out. Conversely, my son-in-law purchased a True treadmill two years ago and has had to have repeated repairs.
I looked at all the treadmills out there before purchasing this one. I found its ergonomics to be superior to others - I'm 5'2" tall and some of the models had handrails that were very uncomfortable for my size.
I use my treadmill on the manual setting and like the fact that if I'm interrupted it doesn't go into a sleep mode and lose my time/distance. I generally walk at 3.4 mph and a 15% incline - having reduced my speed from 4 mph and a bit lower incline due to aging feet. One of the factors that weighed into my decision was the fact that Precor allows a greater incline than some others.
If you are going to spend the money on a good treadmill, I definitely recommend the Precor models.

Other treadmills I see seem really cheaply made compared to this one. It weighs 300 pounds and is a commercial treadmill so it may not have the personalized user settings others may have. I am walking about 2 miles a day right now about 5 days a week and the impact on my joints and feet is so much better than walking in the park. This is a very long treadmill so if you daydream and lag a bit, you won't fall off the back. It seems like the quality and the warranty make it a good buy and Amazon had the best price. I would definitely recommend this one.

Endurance TF3i Folding Treadmill Review

I specifically bought a model from Fitness Factory because of the lifetime warranty on all parts. I already owned a Body Solid gym purchaced from Fitness Factory 10 years ago and they have always been great about replacing worn out or broken parts with absolutely no hassle.
The TF3i is a solidy built treadmill with great fit and finish. It's appearance is that of a much more expensive model. This is a model without all the bells and whistles. It has only 4 pre-programed programs and will not store custom programs. It also has a basic control panel without all the advanced graphics the more expensive models have but it is also 25% less in price. The folding feature is great because I have a relatively small room for a gym and it only takes 10 seconds to get it ready to run or fold back up for storage.
The TF3i is extremely smooth and quiet in operation. Set up was easy, taking only about half an hour and having only three components to bolt together and the tools were included. You can forget about following the instructions since they were written in China but thankfully on this one it's straight forward enough that there won't be any guessing and even a novice at assemling such things should have no trouble at all. One thing to remember is that it does weigh 200 lbs and it will take two strong people to carry it to wherever you are setting it up in your house. It's shipped by freight like most of these are which means you will be responsible for getting it from the back of the truck to wherever it's going in your house. In my case the driver offered to help even though I was not paying extra for it and he was not required to.
In short this is an excellent machine for someone who is serious about putting in a lot of miles, doesn't care about all the electronics extras and wanys a machine that will last for many years at a reasonable price.Endurance TF3i Folding Treadmill

TrekDesk Treadmill Desk Review

(More customer reviews)I have been waiting for months for the Trekdesk to be released. I ordered mine minutes after receiving the email that it was available to order (I was on the waitlist). I had lofty expectations for this product. Now that I have been using it for a few days I can safely report that Trekdesk has met all my expecations. I am thrilled with my new office routine!
Let me start with the bad to get it out of the way. I am nit-picking here. These are fairly minor complaints.
THE BAD:
- Assembly instructions could be more helpful. It took me 45 minutes to assemble the desk, although I admitedly am not much of a handyman. Others could probably assemble it in half that time. The instructions were detailed, but do not have drawings/pictures which would have been very helful to me. The video helped some, but I wish it also was more detailed in showing assembly steps. I was surprised at the number of parts to assemble...and the number of screws. It would be helpful to have the different size screws in separate bags instead of all in one bag.
- Difficulty accessing the treadmill control panel under the Trekdesk. I believe Trekdesk recommends a treadmill with a side panel instead of the panel in front. However, my treadmill has the front panel, which sits under the Trekdesk. I can't see the treadmill display without performing gymnastic contortions. Also, must reach under the Trekdesk to press the start/stop buttons on the treadmill. However, after a few hours I was used to the routine. I haven't changed the speed or incline on the treadmill since the first day anyway, so no need to have easy access to the control panel.
- cord control. They should add features for tying down cords somewhere. Between the computer, monitor, phone, printer, etc....lots of cords running from the desk.
- Not a full-time desk. I found that I like to alternate between a chair and the treadmill during the day. I work/walk for a couple hours and then spend a half hour sitting at the desk. However, I have only been using the treadmill for 2 days and noticed that today I spent a lot more time on the treadmill than I did the first day. Ok, you have probably guessed I am not the picture of fitness (yet).
Now for all the good stuff...
THE GOOD:
- solid construction. When I ordered I was a little worried this would be a cheap product because the price was a fraction of other treadmill workstations. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the desk when unpacking the box.
- packaging. Speaking of unpacking..no way this desk will be damaged during shipping. All parts are fit into layers of custom-molded styrofoam.
- video tutorial for assembling.
- adjustable height. I am 6' 3, and the Trekdesk fits me perfectly when I am on the treadmill. I could still raise it a couple more inches if I wanted to.
- customer service. I emailed customer service with a question and received a response and helpful instructions within an hour.
- large desk. Plenty or room for a work area, even with a laptop docked and a monitor/keyboard/mouse.
- the best news of all is that it works! I feel great during and after work. I have been working from home for quite some time now, and have been feeling more and more lethargic sitting in my chair all day long. What a difference the Trekdesk makes! I had more energy today at work than I have had in a long time. It only took minutes to get used to walking while typing away at the keyboard or using the mouse. The setup feels quite natural now. I use all the accessories that came with the desk, especially the cup holders. Those are a nice touch. Overall, I have no reservations about recommending the Trekdesk. It has been well worth the purchase price to me.

(More customer reviews)I did a fair amount of looking before I bought this model and I am very happy with it. I became interested in Bowflex treadmills after Consumer Reports rated the Bowflex 7 series as one if its best folding models. Shopping on Amazon, I realized that Bowflex made 3 folding treadmills--the 3, the 5, and the 7 series. Online, these look very similar, with the 5 and 7 series having longer tracks and a bigger motors. Strangely, the best source of information on these was not the Bowflex website itself (it has *no* information on the 3 ,5 and 7 series treadmills--just those crazy tread climbers), but rather the specs from Amazon.
Consumer Reports indicated that the best way to buy a treadmill was to actually see how the machine felt. I agree. I managed to find a store that had a 7 series in stock. I was impressed. The 7 series was rock stable and has a very nice folding mechanism--it locks in the up position and drops down slowly when released (a great feature if you worry about your kids getting crushed by the track accidentally). Unfortunately, I could not find a dealer that carried the 3 series to try in person, but it seemed like it would be optimal and very cost effective.
I also tried several Nordic Track treadmills in person. These seemed to have very unappealing walking decks (sproingy!, in a bad way) and even on high hp power machines, the motor seemed to power the track very unevenly.
I decided to take a chance that the 3 series would be as sturdy as the 7 series I tried---I am very happy. Amazon shipped the thing super-saver in a relatively short period of time--very appealing! It was very straightforward to assemble once I got the thing in place--parts are labeled and the assembly pictures are really self explanatory. It is also a quiet machine and the deck is *very* sturdy even for a big guy like me (200+ lbs). One quibble--the grip heartrate monitor could work better--sometimes it does not give a reading after even 10 sec of holding. Also, be aware the deck will not lock in the up position unless you reset the incline to 0 degrees. The incline automatically resets to 0 every time the machine is powered on.
I use the machine primarily for walking, for this application it is great, the machine handles inclines and relatively fast walking speeds with no problem. I can't comment on how well this machine compares with others for running fast. For jogging it seems just fine.
A note on delivery and installation. This thing is *very* heavy (~275 lbs). The shipping company chosen by Amazon (Eagle) did a great job. I called them prior to delivery to schedule when they would drop it off--thats the good news.
The bad news, they would only bring it to the threshold (just inside the house). I asked if they would bring it upstairs for an extra fee and they said--"no way." Three calls to moving companies and an estimate of ~$250-300 to move it from my entry up a flight of stairs--this is not a two person job--the shipping box is enormous (80" x 35" x 16"). I solved this problem by recruiting my father-in-law (also a big guy). We turned the box on its side, opened it, and moved the main piece (track and motor together) by itself. Make sure not to cut the restraining strap, this keeps the frame and the track held in place making moving *much* easier. Even then, the main piece weighs about 200 lbs and was serious work getting around corners. Very glad at that point that I bought the shorter (56") track!
Overall, a great mo-chine--equal to much more expensive models! Glad I managed to avoid a hernia during installation.

Sole TT8 Treadmill (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED) Review

(More customer reviews)This is an honest review of the Sole TT8. The other review seems to be written by someone at the company, since he says that he owns every single Sole model in his house. I doubt that is an honest review.
Previously I had a Nordictrack but the frame snapped on me and Nordictrack refused to fix it and even hung up on the phone with me. I filed a report with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This is why I needed a new treadmill.
I poured over treadmill reviews for weeks online. Its really tough to find honest reviews because there are a lot of fake websites out there written by the manufacturers to review their own products and say that they are good. You can't trust those.
What I liked the most about Sole is that they have a lifetime warranty on their motor, frame, and deck. Thats pretty outstanding and says a lot in itself. The quality of their 'residential' treadmills are so high, that Hilton and Omni hotels use them in their exercise rooms for commercial use. Thats pretty amazing. You're basically getting the commercial quality of a Precor or Life Fitness at a residential rate with this treadmill.
I went back and forth between the folding Sole treadmills and the non-folding ones. Some people have reported a 'low speed error' on the folding treadmills that renders the treadmill inoperable until it can be fixed. However I could not find one negative review anywhere on the non-folding Sole treadmills. I opted for the TT8 because of the power of the motor (3.5HP, very high), and that the belt is 22"x60". My crappy Nordictrack was only 20"x55" and since I'm over 6' that was kinda small for me. Well let me tell you, the belt and deck on this is absolutely amazing and a million times better than Nordictrack. The belt is already on the deck when its delivered and it needed no adjustment whatsoever to start using that. Thats great because I hated adjusting my Nordictrack.
Also, before I forget, I opted for the standard scheduled freight delivery with the package being 'curbside'. The freight service ended up being Pilot Freight Service and they were very very nice. The treadmill comes in a huge box and it weighs 300lbs. They were so nice, that they helped me carry it inside, and even down to my basement. That was VERY unexpected and I was very grateful to them for that. Otherwise I would have had to open up the box outside and bring it down piece by piece myself (which I dont think I'd be able the do, the deck part is one giant piece with the majority of the weight, way too heavy for me).
Anywho, the assembly was very simple. A few nuts and bolts. One metal thing that I was to screw into was bent, but I was able to bend it back into place with a wrench no problem.
So far I've only run 3 times on it (I just got it 2 days ago). 4 miles, 1 mile, then 4 miles again. Outstanding. I use my iphone to play music through the built in speakers. I am an audio nut, but I have to say the quality of the speakers really isn't that bad for being built into a treadmill. The bass sucks but thats to be expected. Just don't blast music at 100% volume on your phone and its fine. One really negative thing though is that the built in fans are COMPLETELY useless. You cant feel them at all when they spin. Oh well. Thats the only negative thing about this treadmill. I used the wireless heartrate device on my last run and it was definitely pretty neat seeing my heart rate during the whole run. And running on it is pretty quiet too. I used to wake up the whole house (and probably my neighbors when I was in a townhouse) with the Nordictrack, but with the Sole it is so quiet that nobody can even hear me running on it. They can hear my music though, haha.
If I ever have a problem with the treadmill, I will certainly update this review. As of now I will definitely rate this as 5 stars. Thanks Sole for making such a high quality residential treadmill! It makes me feel like I was missing out on so much when I was running on my junky Nordictrack.
I am fully away that this treadmill is on the higher side of $$ for residential, but it is well worth the investment. When you compare the quality and cost of this to the Precor and Life Fitness, you'll quickly see that your getting the same quality (and an awesome warranty) for well under half the cost of one of those. I hope this review helps others with their decision.

Epic T60 Treadmill Review

(More customer reviews)I've run about 400 miles on mine over the course of a few years, with no serious problems. The tread is made from high quality rubber, the machine is very stable, the 60 inch tread length is great, and it's easy to adjust the tread (left or right a centimeter or so, maybe every 100 miles) with a supplied allen wrench. Here are the minor issues I've encountered:
1. It is very difficult to move. You have to lift about 100 pounds just to roll it in a very limited manner.
2. It doesn't beep anymore (to indicate events like power on, or setting the speed to 10MPH, etc.).
3. The pulse measuring feature doesn't work very well. It measures my pulse too quickly (within 3 seconds), or not at all, and as a result it is not very accurate or consistent.
4. It measures distance incorrectly at the very start-- If I start from rest and click 10MPH, the reported distance increases as if I am going 10MPH immediately, while the actual speed is climbing up to 10MPH over the course of about 15 seconds. In other words, it reports I run a mile in exactly 6 minutes when really the first 15 seconds were at a slower pace.
5. The aluminum panel at the front end of the tread is flimsy. I stepped on it twice while running, almost destroying the panel on one occasion. It is now a bit warped and it almost touches the tread. I've learned to avoid it, which is easy when you have 60 inches to work with.

Sole S77 Treadmill (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED) Review

(More customer reviews)I got my S77 about 2 months ago, and have used it constantly. It is quiet at anything under 10mph, changes speed and incline fairly quickly, and has quite a long running surface. I am 6'2" and 250lbs, and it has no problem handling me.
There are a few things to keep in mind when looking at the S77, though.
1. The fans blow, and I don't mean air. If you must have airflow, set a fan next to the treadmill and point it at yourself.
2. The speakers are not audiophile quality. They do, however, play music from an ipod, etc. just fine, and plenty loud. You are 15" away from them, it doesn't take much.
3. Hill mode is different than what I expected. It is not a bad thing, just different. On most gym treadmills, i.e. Star Trac, etc. you set a speed, and Hill mode adjusts the incline only. On the S77, you set the MAX speed, and the speed and incline are adjusted together, not always linearly. I ended up liking it better, actually.
As far as emulating normal Hill mode, it is quite easy. Set the program to Manual, choose your speed. Then, use the GIANT incline buttons to select your incline manually, changing it every so often. I am a clock watcher, so regular increments come easy for me, and I don't mind doing this myself.TLDR - Great treadmill. Awesome treadmill. Consider it fanless, though.
OH YEAH! Yes, the assembly was quite easy. However, have a friend available to help you lug this around. Everything is light, except for the motor/running surface, where 95% of the weight resides.
