NordicTrack Pro Skier Ski Machine Review

NordicTrack Pro Skier Ski Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent workout. I have worn out several of these NordicTrack ski machines - it takes me about 6 years of use then they are pretty much shot. You can replace the critical parts but the better way is to find a used one in excellent condition that was built in Minnesota when they first came out. The later units made in Asia are built to the same drawings but you will quickly discover the quality is not the same. The workout is about 7 - 14 METS depending on how you set up the upper body and tension on the skis. Not everyone finds it easy to use - unless you have a fairly good sense of balance it can be awkward.

Why a NordicTrack Skier !

Aerobic #1
Endurance #1
Strength #2
Flexibility #2
Coordination #2

20 Years later, THIS IS STILL THE HIGHEST RATED FITNESS EQUIPMENT
Compare to a Treadmill:
Treadmills are the 'catch all' for the fitness novice. But they are not low impact as many assume. Does the pavement come at you as you walk ? Have you watched - seen and heard people 'pound' their lives away on a treadmill ? Each step a tremendous jolt compared to ordinary walking which has enough impact on the joints without the added stress. Compare to 'NordicWalking or Skiing - you never lift your feet. Experience a Smooth - Rhythmic motion as wood skis glide gently on rubber rollers which - on a finely tuned skier - 'white-noise' therapeutic sound. Start NordicWalking / Skiing - ultimately will want to experience 'total freedom of motion' with an upper and lower body workout. The World's Best Aerobic Exerciser.

Compare to Elliptical:
Ellipticals are much more restrictive and have a shorter range of motion. They are often 'jerky - and have a 'punching' motion you want a free flowing - extended full range of motion and the smoothness of a NordicTrack. NordicTrack Skiers will also aid in achieving 'balance and coordination'. It's easy to learn and best of all - anyone can do it !

Ok - people thought I was crazy when I told them I was buying this. The online video leaves something to be desired. However - after using this for two weeks - it is making a huge difference! My butt is definitely tighter, my thighs are strenghening - though instead of getting 'skinnier' they are getting bigger from muscle. I didn't really think a machine could do this but it does! My stomach is definitely getting tighter as well.
When I first used the machine, I could hardly keep my feet off the ground because my legs were so tired. When I put the machine on the third level I would almost fly off. Now - I can do the 4th level with no problem! I even am working on putting my legs way out in front of me and balancing... This is amazing!!!!
It's not like I'm seeing any weight loss but this isn't what I got it for. I wanted to strengthen my core and it definitely is doing it!
I tried the gallop put out by Brookstone but I felt that that trainer leaned you too far forward and was a bit uncomfortable even though it looked more like a saddle.
I'm going horseback riding next week (not why I got this) but I remember when I did it last year....felt like I was walking bow legged the next day. We'll see if I feel that way this time...it will be interesting to note.

Was not like by son-in-law to whom this was a gift. Not flexible enough to move around and store in their small living quarters. Also, this mat exhuded strong "chemical" odor such that they did not want it within their small living quarters.

FitterFirst Extreme Balance Board Review

FitterFirst Extreme Balance Board

This board is one of the best I have ever used. I find it to be more challenging than indo or vew-do boards. The fact that it allows you to work on side-to-side balance as well as front-to-back is a major bonus. However the price is far too high. You can make this same design at home for less than $30. Despite the outrageous price, it is a 5-star product.

This ultra challenging board taxes your balance on several planes. The Extreme Balance Board effectively trains balance, stability, coordination, ankle and knee strength, and core power. The board also stretches and strengthens the ligaments and tendons in the legs. The Board moves forward and back, side to side, and at all angles. To make the board more difficult, the wooden dowels may be removed from the fulcrum, creating more movement from front to back. For even more difficulty, the polyurethane rings may also be removed. The adjustability and range of movement separate this product from the rest of our balance board line. The boards are handmade, and provide a good starting point for athletes and individuals wishing to progress beyond the wobble board. Board is made of durable birch, and has a non slip top.

OSIM iGallop Core and Abs Exerciser Review

OSIM iGallop Core and Abs Exerciser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Fellow horseback riders, you'll want to own this fun machine!! After reading the reviews here on Amazon, I went to Brookstone to try one of these before buying. Not only did I come home with one, but so did my riding buddy. (They were on sale at considerably less than half the retail price of $600.)
It has 3 speeds of the same side-to-side/circular motion, plus a 4th setting that randomly goes through the 3 speeds. In all cases, the motion approximates the 4-beat, lateral gait of a horse who's walking or racking.
Speed One is like riding a large horse who has a very clunky walk. Speed Two speeds up and smooths out a bit. It's like riding a gaited horse who's not smooth enough to want to buy. Speed Three speeds up again and smooths out even more. Fold your arms and hold them up in front of your chest, keep your shoulders steady, absorb the motion in your hips, and you'll feel like you're racking down the road on a decent horse at a good clip.
I've had all sorts of exercise machines over the years, but nothing has ever been as fun as this. It seems effortless to ride, and yet, both my riding buddy and I were surprised (and delighted) to feel some stiffness in all sorts of muscles. It's also strengthening my back which was injured in a horse wreck years ago.
The DVD that comes with it shows many additional exercises that you can do while balancing on this thing (if you're young and agile!), but I'm just having fun horsebackin' in front of the TV!
UPDATE: I've had my iGallop more than 3 months now and I still love it. I ride a minimum of 30 minutes every day, and an hour whenever possible (this is easy to time as the machine automatically runs for only 15 minutes - to continue, just hit the start button again). I've lost more than 5 pounds and an inch from my waist and hips. I credit this largely to the iGallop since I haven't changed anything else in my diet or exercise program.
2nd UPDATE ALMOST A YEAR LATER: I still love this machine, but am now on my second one thanks to my having purchased an extended warranty (doubling the original 12 months to 24). Six weeks shy of my one-year purchase date, my iGallop suddenly made noise, smelled of smoldering plastic and flopped loosely (and, no, I'm petite, so my weight didn't wreck it [grin]). I took it to Brookstone and they were wonderful about replacing it on the spot, leaving me with 13 months to go on the same warranty should I need yet another replacement(s). Soooo, moral of the story is; if you're offered an extended warranty, you may want to consider it.

The OSIM iGallop is the revolutionary exerciser that can help you shape and tone your tummy, hips, seat and thighs. The secret is in its zero-impact, tri-axial riding action. Your body automatically responds to its multidirectional movement, and this balancing engages certain muscle groups and may help improve coordination and posture.

Extreme Balance Board Review

Extreme Balance Board
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My gym bought one of these and it has held up amazingly well for over three years. Granted, it's a boutique gym--not a 24 hour fitness; however, this board gets a ton of use. Almost every trainer works with it in some way. In fact, I was finally motivated to buy one of these myself because the one at our gym is almost always monopolized (and I wanted to practice on it out of public view...it takes a little while to get to the point where you're actually strong enough to balance and don't embarrass yourself by simply teetering safely from one side to the next).
My board arrived in good shape from Lifestyle Sports. The board itself is quite rugged. The wood is nice and thick--as are the rubber components. I use it for snowboard training, so I'm quite aggressive with it, but it's reassuringly strong. It's also just the perfect width for push-ups.
There are two wooden pegs that can be removed from two rubber rings to allow forward/backward movement. Beginners will want to work with the pegs installed, which restricts you to a simpler side-to-side movement. I would give this product 5 stars; however, the pegs occasionally pop out after several uses--causing a bit of a surprise. I feel this could be solved with a better design, but it is easily avoidable by checking the pegs before each use.
I would recommend this product to people interested in strengthening their ancillary muscles and improving balance. Obviously there are exercises you can do without this board to achieve the same goals, but the board is much more fun. If you are the type to buy an exercise gimmick and use it for a week before moving on, don't waste your money on this. However, if you want a solid balance board that will work with you for years to come, it's well worth the price.

Got this Indo board for my 11 yr old daughter who loves surfing and skating. It's an awesome core workout and is excellent for balance. This is not for the faint of heart though. Stand next to something or someone stable while learning this. It can get away from you in a big hurry!

Click Here to see more reviews about: Original Training Package (Deck, Roller, & Cushion)

This training package provides a complete workout unit without taking up a lot of space. The mouth inflatable IndoFLO® Balance Cushion is used as an alternative to the roller. You can adjust the degree of instability on the cushion with the level of inflation. Less inflation means more stability while inflating the cushion to it's maximum creates the most instability. The basic difference from deck and roller configuration is the deck does not actively roll on the cushion, it simply tilts offering a full circle of instability that is challenging in a fun way yet difficult to ride and bring under control. What you have is a mini gym in the comfort of your living room! You can perform functional fitness exercises on both the roller and cushion in combination with dumb bells, stretch bands, and medicine balls such as squats, push-ups, oblique twists, lunges and wood chops. Using the Training Package system lets you engage both the upper body and lower body simultaneously and will add new dimension to any training regime. You create what suits your goals, whether it's better coordination and balance or sports specific functional multiplanar training. Indo Boards were originally created for surfers to train and have fun when not in the water. Now all board sports have come "on board" for one of the most fun and challenging training products on the market. Today the Indo Board is moving into the fitness market as a new innovative approach to incorporate fun into core training. Features:Demo DVD provided FREE with the purchase of any Indo Board Balance Trainer.*30" x 18" deck, available in Natural or Multi-color finishes* 250 pound maximum weight limit* 6.5" diameter roller* 14" diameter polyvinyl IndoFLO® Balance Cushion (mouth inflatable)

BOSU Balance Trainer Review

BOSU Balance Trainer

First off, I must note that I did some research prior to investing in this...those who have had issues with product separating from base have overinflated their bosu. Read instructions prior to inflation and it will explain this. A friend who is a personal trainer (who talked me into investing in the bosu) said even working the Bosu with all clients she hadn't had the issue EVER so I trusted the info to be accurate and took the leap. Glad I did!
It is a rare day I use the words "fun" and "workout" in the same sentence but this sure gels those two oxymorons together. It is great fun and, according to my heart rate monitor, gave me one major workout when I did the dvd or use it on it's own
But better yet? The time flew by! I loved using it and...
wow, it's like skiiing...those who ski know you utilize muscles you can't in any other way via the movements that aren't the "norm". Same thing here. I work out daily yet the first time I used the bosu the next day I felt that I had one great workout with muscles aching (in a good way) that I never had used before.
I gave away my aerobic step after using my bosu a few times. This is so much better. Now I use the bosu during any workout dvd that calls for a step. Not only do you utilize more muscles during your workouts (and all new muscle built burns extra calories...win/win) but the trampline-like feel makes it fun and the dome shape adds a core and balance workout that you'd never get otherwise.
There are a few gadgets I invested in this year that I kiss myself for being smart enough to get and this is one. (my kindle comes in second)
the best part is I use it during many of my other workout dvds now just to burn more calories and use more muscles...
AND it takes so many workout moves up a notch. Like ab moves...you are no longer hindered by the floor so you can lean across the bosu to do crunches and work twice as many muscles because of the range of motion, push ups with the bosu turned upside down works more of your core because you engage more muscles when doing the moves. (plus it makes it way more fun...whenver my workout dvds instruct me to go to the floor for plank or pushups or ab work I do them on the bosu!)
love it! A great "fitness toy"!!
(p.s. I do extensive reading and research before buying anything...especially when it comes to fitness...explore the web and fitness magazines. This is, without question, universally a positive addition to whatever you are using now.)

LifeGear Inversion Table Review

LifeGear Inversion Table
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have degenerative disc disease, so I get pretty significant back pain if I overdo things, but being in pretty good shape otherwise, I'm not willing stop doing the things I like. I'm always on the lookout for things that can help with the pain.
I looked quite a bit, and wasn't able to find any inversion table anywhere close to this one in price. Despite that, it's a quality unit, and should last years.
Be warned that it is heavy - especially if you are getting it for a bad back. It comes in a single box when it is shipped, and you will definately want a buddy with you when you bring it in the house and start to assemble it. If I had to guess, I'd say it was about 50 pounds.
There are a lot of parts - some assembly required is an understatement. Again, if this is not your forte, you will want a buddy with you to help. When you get it all together, you'll find that the weight pays off in it being a nice sturdy unit you can trust to hold your weight.
It is semi-portable, but keep in mind the overall weight. It does fold for storage, but moving it around is not something you're going to want to do every day. Also, it comes with covers that you install over the hinges of the frame. I think these are a safety hazard, since they cover the hinge lock. If you are moving the frame a lot, and one day you get on without the frame being fully locked, I think bad things could happen. I'd rather be able to see that things are locked in place rather than have the decorative covers. Luckily, they are easy to remove. I don't want anyone to think I'm saying I think the table is unsafe - just be cautious when you set it up.
It has a number of adjustments that make it useful for a wide range of body sizes. I'm 6'4 and 220#, and it does just fine with me.
I've found that just a couple of minutes on this table does my back more good than an hour in a hot tub or a handful of Tylenol. It's amazing how much good it's done me.
I have every confidence in this table and highly recommend it. I don't think you'll find a better table for the money anywhere.

I have been kind of sick of my treadmill/free weight workouts so I decided to look for something new that was not expensive, quick and maybe even fun...ish!
So I found this Bosu trainer. I just finished the first workout and it was incredible...really good for working on balance, but you can hold on throughout! It works your core muscles without you having to do any crunches, situps or other ungodly manoever...I mean, I can feel my abs right now, but not in a bad way...just in a way that lets me know I exercised them. This thing does cardio, strength and you can also stretch on it...the DVD that's included shows you how. For $114, I think this gives a lot of bang for the buck...and it feels very sturdy. Although it comes with a cheap pump, I had a bicycle pump that I blew it up with. So, for what it's worth, I would highly recommend this.

About BOSU Invented by David Weck, the BOSU Balance Trainer debuted in 2000 and quickly became one of the most successful fitness training products on the market. Originally, the name "BOSU" was an acronym for Both Sides Up. It meant that the BOSU Balance Trainer could be used on either side, the dome or the platform. Today, the term BOSU has evolved beyond the product to now mean Both Sides Utilized, a mindful approach to exercise that is a step beyond traditional training. This clarity of who BOSU is and what they want to offer inspired the development of additional BOSU products and programming, all of which are grounded in exercise science and proven in real-life application.

BOSU Training is about expanding movement capabilities, reshaping bodies, and strengthening minds. It's about inserting thought into movement, being physically involved, and also being present and fully engaged in the training process. BOSU's products are known industry-wide for training balance, enhancing flexibility, and delivering killer cardio workouts. They have an unprecedented reputation for building strength and fine tuning skills for sport. But on their own, BOSU products are just molded plastic, weighted rubber, and stability balls with secret filling. You have to engage them in order to bring them to life! So, beyond their products, BOSU offers a system of mindful action, intentional movement, and smart science that produces results.

The BOSU training approach makes certain that when you get on the BOSU Balance Trainer or move with the BOSU Ballast Ball, you will get everything from a feel-good, get-fit, no-regrets training tool. Even more than that, you get an intelligent training method that transcends any piece of fitness equipment.
