Body Max XMT6700 Multi-Functional Trainer Review

This machine is not worth the price. I was expecting much, much better performance than it delievers. It is definitely not characteristic of how a $[...] exercise machine should operate. The action is harsh and very unsmooth. Friction is apparent to the point where I had to wait for the handle attachment to "catch-up" with my hands. I have used $[...] weight machines that operated more smoothly. I contacted the manufacturer, Body Flex Sports, and emailed them many pictures and vidoes to see if I had assembled something incorrectly. I was told that I had assembled it correctly, but that the machine "is what it is" and there was nothing they could or would do. Very disappointing and frustrating. I would not recommend this machine to anyone. The only positive thing about this whole transaction has been Amazom[...]. The unit was originally shipped to the wrong address, and was missing parts but all in all Amazon has come through and made it right.

I was surprised to read that anyone would give this system a single star, but then again a customer should consider what kind of work out program they want start prior to buying any weight set. I bought this system because I wanted to build dumbells that were between 125-135 pounds, and I needed a system that was safe to "drop" when my set was complete. You can't build dumbells this heavy with other brands, and you certainly can't drop weights made by Bowflex or other companies that produce simular products quick change products. These weights are high quality. I have used them for the last year and have had no problems. If you want a system simuliar to what you would find in a professional gym this is it. In addition, I had no problems with their customer service.

I did a ton of research before buying the X2. I run on a treadmill 3 or 4 days a week (about 12-15 miles a week) and work up a good sweat, and my lower body is pretty lean. However, being almost 40, and not having trained with weights since high school, I felt I needed to start doing some weight/resistance training, particularly on my upper body.
Well, after 3 weeks, I can tell a huge difference after using this machine. I'm also glad I got the X2 instead of the X because of the ability to work out faster without pully changes.
I also have been able to gradually increase the weight so that I'm going to buy the two 50 rod extensions. I highly recommend this machine to anyone who doesn't feel comfortable in a gym, and/or just doesn't have the time to go. I have small kids and being able to hit this machine at 5:30 am when everyone is still asleep is a huge benefit for me.
As for assembly, it was fairly easy if you follow directions. The only difficult part was the pully system - make sure you have it right as that is the backbone of the entire system. The pics in the instructions could have been a little clearer. Otherwise, bottom line is that this thing works and was a great purchase.

Bowflex TC3000 Treadclimber Review

Bowflex TC3000 Treadclimber
Average Reviews:

I got my machine earlier this year. As the other reviewer indicates, at first I really didn't like it. It was awkward and hard to use. I was really worried.
The second time I used it I slowed down the speed and worked on getting the feel for the machine. On a treadmill I always walk at about 4.5 MPH. So I set this machine initially to 4.0 MPH. That is much, much too fast for a beginner. (Don't worry it is still a good workout at 3.0 MPH.) That did it.
Now it is the easiest and best exercise machine I have ever used. I get a better workout than a treadmill with lots less stress and pain in my knees. It is more natural for me than an elliptical.
If you get one of these, you will love it. You just have to stick to it for a few times (it took me two workout sessions) to master it.

I saw this come up and I had to give this a rating it deserved. I'll hope to expand later.
Does this come in separate boxes? Yes, about six. (I had more as I bought extra.) Does it take a while to put together? Yes, a few hours over a few days. Has it been amazing? Yes. I saw nearly instantaneous results. It's easy to use and makes working out from home a dream. I can shift between various exercises quickly and easily. I highly recommend it.
Also, I highly recommend the ab attachment, which is not included in this. It makes an ab workout easier, faster and more effective.

Weider Max Weight System Review

Weider Max Weight System

We spent a while putting this together...when my husband tried it out for the first time the 10 lb. middle bar (the one that you use to insert the weights in) snapped in half. Well we wanted to cry after all of the hard work to put it together. I called customer service & they sent another part. We put it on and it has worked fine ever since. So at least you know if something goes wrong, they will fix it.

The Weider Max strength-training system packs more muscle-sculpting power per square inch than any other weight system on the market. Boasting up to 240 pounds of quick-change resistance to harness the power of Weider's revolutionary resistance bar technology, the Max employs a unique system of cables, cams, pulleys, and swivels to address all of your upper and lower body muscle groups. This system, called the Compound Resistance System (CRS), serves to compound the resistance of each bar, allowing the workout cable to travel 2 feet for every 1 foot of resistance bar travel. The benefit of CRS is that it allows you to complete each exercise, with a complete range of motion for better results and a wider workout variety. Further, each bar provides smooth, consistent resistance throughout the exercise.
The quick-change resistance system, meanwhile, quickly moves from 5 to 240 pounds of resistance (can be upgraded to 340 pounds), making weight training quick and easy. Thanks to the system, you no longer need to unscrew a bunch of pins or deal with bulky plates between exercises. The quick-change system also makes circuit training easier than ever, because you can move rapidly from one exercise to the next. Best of all, the Max comes with everything you need for a killer total body workout, including a lat tower, a leg developer, and a preacher pad station. You'll enjoy more than 65 club-quality exercises geared to give you a fat-burning, muscle-building upper and lower body workout. It's the perfect blend of high-intensity strength training, fast-paced circuit training, and killer cardio.
Other features include a removable seat, a pair of short and long workout handles, ankle and hand straps, and an exercise DVD. Max home gyms feature a lifetime warranty on each resistance bar. All other components carry a five-year limited warranty that covers defects, materials, and workmanship.

Champion Barbell 65 lbs. Rubber Encased Solid Hex Dumbells Review

Champion Barbell 65 lbs. Rubber Encased Solid Hex Dumbells
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I tried finding these types of dumbells anywhere else (Dick's sporting goods, Sports Authority, etc), however, the heaviest that these places carried was 55 lbs (if they even had them in stock at all). It would have been nice to pay less, however, this was the ONLY place on the web I could find them.
As for the weights, they pretty much operate how you would expect weights to work. The benefit to the rubber coated weights is that they don't "clank" when they hit the ground, and they don't mark up the tile floor either. They are more expensive than the all-metal weights, but for me it was worth the extra cost. The ergonomic handles on these weights are also nice. I would have rated them 5 stars if they were a little less expensive and if the handles had some rubber coating as well (like the lighter ones I was able to purchase at Dick's Sporting Goods).

Since this was labeled "light" I was a little worried it wouldn't compare to gym quality equipment. This was a christmas gift for my father last year and just hearing about the delivery and install I was more then impressed. It is just as well built as the machines we use the gym and will last him a lifetime. Some fitness equipment will only last a few years with everyday use, but he and my mother have been using it everyday for almost a year, and they love it! Lots of options for different exercises (maybe get an exercise ball to use as well with some of the movements). Basically he loves it so much, that he jokes that he should make an execrise DVD to go with is...with him as the spokesperson!

Sole F80 Treadmill (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED) Review

Sole F80 Treadmill (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned a Bowflex Series 7 Treadmill for a couple of years. It was repaired several times after suffering mechanical and electrical problems, but never again ran properly. After disappointing customer service with Bowflex (Nautilus), I replaced it with a Sole F80. When comparing my ownership experience with both treadmills, I recommend the Sole F80.
Bowflex Series 7:
a. 20x60 running surface (better for tall runners)
b. 3.0 hp motor gets belt to full speed in about 2-3 sec
c. no countdown before belt begins to move
d. stylish console, but not as easy to use
e. no speed or incline controls on handles (only on console)
f. metallic handrails (causes static electricity shock)
g. must tip/lean treadmill backwards to move (dangerous!)
h. warranty: 10 yrs motor, 2 yrs electronics, only 1 year labor
Sole F80:
a. 20x55 running surface (good for most people)
b. 3.0 hp motor gets belt to full speed in about 6-8 sec
c. 3 sec countdown before belt begins to move
d. console not stylish, but functional and easy to use
e. speed and incline controls located on handles AND on console
f. hand rails covered with rubber compound for better grip
g. treadmill slides along ground without tipping or leaning
h. warranty: lifetime on motor, 5 yrs electronics, 2 years labor
Delivery of large box is supposed to be made inside front door or garage. Both times, I gave the delivery person a generous "tip" for their prompt delivery service, and both times the treadmill was generously brought down into my basement. Delivery drivers were quite pleasant both times.
Assembly for both treadmills was relatively easy and both treadmills took just under 2 hours to assemble (screwing in hand rails on BOTH treadmills can be tricky-need to make sure you don't puncture and/or pinch console wires!). All necessary tools were supplied for both.
The Bowflex Series 7 and Sole F80 both have powerful and quiet 3.0 hp motors.
The decks on both feel about the same when running/walking on them. Neither deck is "whisper quiet" when running on it. To me, the deck of the Bowflex Series 7 was slightly louder (a problem that became progressively worse during my ownership of the Bowflex Series 7). If you're a taller runner (over 6 feet tall) or run with a long stride, then the F80's deck may be a little too short for you (or course, Sole makes a longer treadmill for a few hundred dollars more). But for most of us who walk/jog/run on a treadmill, the Sole F80 is a very good size and fit.
I can see why hotels use the Sole F80 treadmill. First of all, the F80 has a much better warranty (about double of what Bowflex offers). Also, from a safety or "hotel liability" standpoint, the Sole F80's has better user-friendly features such as: (a) 3 sec countdown before belt begins to move (avoids surprises/injuries); (b) belt takes 6-8 sec to get to full speed (avoids surprises/injuries); (c) easy grip handles with rubber compound (remember: most people grab the handles when they get into trouble!); (d) speed/incline controls on console AND handles (really easy to use controls on handles when running or walking); and (e) no need to tip or lean treadmill backwards when moving (easy on your back, plus treadmill won't fall on you).
Had I done my homework the first time, I would have initially bought the Sole F80 instead of the Bowflex Series 7. Although the Bowflex Series 7 was highly recommended, it did not hold up well over time. If you are considering a folding treadmill for under $1,500.00, you should consider the Sole F80.
Good product. Great value. Great warranty.

Ironmaster Super Bench & Dumbbell Combo Review

Ironmaster Super Bench and Dumbbell Combo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got 1000 bucks to spend on a home gym? What might you want to buy? That was my dilemma when I got an overseas assignment in a remote area, and knew I wouldn't see a decent gym for months on end. So, I bought two alternatives--an Ironmaster weights, bench, and accessories, and a Bowflex Ultimate.
After a year's use, I have a clear favorite--the Ironmaster. Now, the Bowflex claims that you can do some 100+ gym-quality exercises with it. You can do 100+ exercises, but they are far from gym quality. Hey, you can do 100+ exercises with two bags of rocks and a little creativity. The Bowflex took a LONG time to put together, and frankly, all of those exercises aren't so great. I max out the Bowflex on some exercises, and I'm no gym dude--just a 50-yr old in respectable shape. And the Bowflex has variable resistance with those bows, meaning you aren't getting resistance where you need it on a lot of exercises. Finally, you don't need 100+ exercises. The fact is, when you come right down to it, there are probably about 15 exercises that will take care of your whole body.
Now, the Ironmaster. First, the free weights. I've used other adjustable free-weights, and none are as secure or as fast to change out as the Ironmaster. And, you can step it up 2-1/2 lbs at a go--not so necessary for me, but great for my wife. One fast change-out trick when stepping up the weights--rather than adding equally on both sides, just add an additional weight to ONE side of the dumbbell. This takes half the time. By shifting your hand slightly off-center on the crossbar, it will still feel balanced.
The bench--superb quality. Quickly adjusts to various inclines, from perpendicular to flat and plenty in between. Necessary accessories for a full range of exercises--definitely, the leg extension curl and crunch sit-up attachments. Both are durable and comfortable, and let you focus on your workout. I also got the curl bar and the preacher curl pad--all for under $1000 (you might find some specials if you go to the Ironmaster website).
Nothing puts on muscle faster than free weights, true. But this is not just for putting on the meat. If I'm not feeling like a full workout, I'll just go through a few reps to flex the muscles, even in front of the TV. It's a lot better than couch-potato-ing it, and leaves me refreshed. There are also a lot of exercises you can do without the Ironmaster--lunges, squats, all kinds of stretches, toe raises (with or without weights)--to supplement the Ironmaster, so that your body gets a thorough workout, without a houseful of equipment.
Conclusion: gives a great essential workout, saves time and money when compared to going to the gym, and a lot more convenient. Going to last a long, long time. For your money, this might be unbeatable.

I have seen those Bowflex infomercials for 20 years now and was the first to say "Yeah right". I believed there was no way it can be as easy as they say it was. I couldn't be MORE wrong. I've owned the Bowflex for 1 month now and cannot believe how easy, fun and fast results have happened. Its simply AMAZING! I love it!

Let me start with the quality. As I was putting it together I was shocked at how well its built. Very study, heavy duty. No cheesy parts.
Second, the DVD that came with it explained everything to me on how each exercise should be preformed safely and to get the best results.
Third, it tells you that you have to commit to a complete healthy life style. You can workout on it as much as you want but if you don't eat right, your NOT going to see the results your looking for.
So, I did just what they told me too.... 1 month, dropped 13 pounds. I can actually SEE the results too! Pants are not staying up, shirts are not as tight and I feel GREAT! Its SO easy if you commit and now that I am actually seeing and feeling the results I am excited to see what happens at the end of 2 months, 4 months, 6 months.
If you have joint problems like I do, this machine is awesome. I struggled with free weights. My joints would ache while working out. With the Bowflex... NOT ONE ISSIUE!
If you're tired of looking like a marshmallow and feeling like a piece of balsa wood, I strongly recommend the Bowflex. It WORKS! Worth every penny I spent on it.
If I had to say anything negative it would be this. It took me about 5 hours to put together but I was able to do it by myself. It wasn't that it was hard or confusing to put together, just took a little while. Still, I am PRO Bowflex. Love it, Love it, LOVE IT!

Stamina Viper Leverage System Home Gym Review

After some difficulty with the shipping process I found the set to be quite manageable for assembly. Items were packaged well. Instructions are very easy to follow with minimal tools. I separated all parts prior to assembly. Product is sturdy and well designed. Excercise options are many although the chest press is not "true" and no military press. Great for the price if you have limited space in a room. Need to figure cost of plates as well.

FreeForm Hideaway Home Gym Review

Review: I have had to exercise most of my 59-year-old life because of scoliosis in my spine. I have been able to maintain flexibility in back in this way. I look constantly for the "ultimate home gym". Of course, it isn't out there yet. I have had two Bowflex, numerous free weight and body weight gyms. I have used elastic cord machines and rubber band machines as well. I usually never give a review, but the FreeForm Hideaway Gym is one of the best, most efficient pieces of equipment I have ever owned. The FreeForm squat exercise is unique and probably the safest I've seen. I can move through eleven exercises within minutes and experience probably the best, real "cardio-strength" workout I have ever had on a home gym. I love the FreeForm Hideaway Gym. Is it the "ultimate home gym"? All I know is that I will never need to buy another home gym.
There is one caveat. "Never dismount the FreeForm when you have tension on the bands." The machine will slide. That should be a warning that comes with the gym.

The key to keeping off excess weight is to build lean, fat-burning muscle. Enter the FreeForm Hideaway Gym, a compact yet fully featured device that perfects the core bodybuilding movements necessary to build a strong, lean body. The Hideaway Gym supports three main body positions. When facing forward, you can perform such exercises as tricep extensions, chest dumbbell flies, chest presses, and abdominal curls, helping you work a variety of upper body muscles. When facing in, the machine lets you perform bicep curls, upright rows, upper lat rows, lower back rows, and more. Finally, you can perform exercises in the standing position, with exercise options that include leg press, glute and inner thigh presses, and calf flexions. All told, the Hideaway Gym offers all the exercises you'll find on more expensive TV-promoted home gyms but at a far more affordable price.
The Hideaway Gym also makes it easy to change your resistance level thanks to the patented quick-change resistance bands. Just select the bands you wish to engage for the exercise--no complicated cable changes or stubborn weight stacks. And with a resistance range that varies from as low as 10 pounds to a maximum of 200 pounds, almost anyone can use the machine to build strength and burn fat. Best of all, the machine breaks down in less than a minute and folds almost flat (5 inches off the ground), so you can easily slide it under a bed or store it in a closet. It's the perfect home gym for space-conscious users who don't want to sacrifice functionality. Also ideal for rehab, the Hideaway Gym comes with a professionally produced workout chart and carries a five-year limited warranty.

The company released its patented 3-Dimensional Arm system in 1991, helping change the thought process of how chest, back, arm, and shoulder exercises should be performed. The free-floating arms and straps that people see on many gym machines today--which allow for a free range of motion for your entire body--stem from the James Design Company's original ideas. The company's latest product, the FreeForm Hideaway Gym, is intended to once again revolutionize the fitness industry. Sold completely assembled, the machine does away with time-consuming changeovers between exercises, and folds up in seconds for easy storage. Most importantly, the machine delivers a club-quality, full-body cardio/strength-training workout. The James Design Company is located in Milmay, New Jersey.

Body Solid Dual Weight Stack Cable Crossover Machine Functional Training Center GDCC200 Review

Body Solid Dual Weight Stack Cable Crossover Machine Functional Training Center GDCC200
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this piece of equipment nearly 4 years ago with the option of a larger weight stack. Let me just say: The flexibility of this piece of equipment is wonderful. It's sturdy (no shake) and has taken some real abuse. The center pull-up bar is solid. The cable columns are smooth. The side adjustability accommodates most exercises... that being said I have found at times that I wish the unit was taller (providing a higher top angle and also allowing the user to stand further away from the machine). I find, sometimes, that I need to step too far away from the machine to achieve a certain angle and that causes the weight stack to hit the top of the cable column during the exercise.... the remedy is to alter the angle/get closer to the machine. Not a huge deal though, considering the equipment is in my house!!! A note about the weight stack: it lifts lighter than one might think. There are add-on weights, however you can forget pulling down large amounts of weight (even if the weight stack numbers correspond to what you might be used-to at the gym. However, I have found a way around this problem by connecting a high-weight rated chain between the two cable columns. This provides an excellent lift assist for pull-ups (if needed) and allows me to tap into the weight of both stacks... of course only do something like this at your own risk - I'm sure the manufacturer wouldn't recommend it. Also, I use a chained weight belt (to hold plates) for heavier pull-ups.
At any rate, and the risk of rambling, if you are looking for a versatile cable column... definitely give this one consideration. I've found it to be a great piece of equipment and a center piece of my home gym.

Bowflex Revolution Home Gym Review

Bowflex Revolution Home Gym
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have never been in to the Bowflex infomercials, but I was fascinated by the new technology behind this Bowflex model. I researched this Bowflex Revolution on the internet and found mostly positive reviews. This item was one of Mens Health Top 100 Products of 2005, and these guys are the experts when it comes to Mens fitness. Popular Mechanics says "We don't normally endorse anything sold via infomercials, but testing is believing and the Bowflex Revolution is the first Bowflex we've tried that lives up to its own hype." Even football legend Brett Favre believes in this product enough to endorse it. I do not work for Bowflex, but I do believe in this product enough after using it and seeing results. I can truly say is this is an amazing machine. After one heck of a nightmare with other machines the Bowflex Revolution has finally met my fitness goals. I have had the Revolution since August 2006 and am very familiar with it and I love it. I loved my bench and free weights, but you usually need a spotter to max out otherwise you risk hurting yourself. After my free weights I went to the Crossbow and the Crossbow Platinum from weider. I had my original crossbow about 1 year and I hated the inconsistent feel of the bows (just like the regular Bowflex models) compared to free weights. I eventually upgraded to the Crossbow Platinum with the built in personal trainer. That machine was ok and worked for about 2 years before the electronics console completely stopped working and my machine would not calibrate properly. After having 2 cheap machines I ended up going with the Bowflex Revolution. I am about 5'10" and this machine works great. It is a little strange at first, but after a week or so you get the hang of it. The workouts are harder because you truly are getting an even constant resistance both positive and negative making exercises that may have been easier on other machines or free weights feel much harder on the revolution. This machine makes you use all those extra muscles that you would not ordinarily use. The machine has over 100 exercises with 400 variations, along with a CD-ROM personal trainer and DVD that shows you how to properly use this machine and perform each exercise. This is an expensive machine, but after my experience with two cheap machines the Bowflex Revolution is well worth it. The 10 year warranty and the results I have seen are just an added bonus. For people who are independent and do not always have time to go to a gym this is well worth the monthly payment which is comparable to a GYM membership in itself. The customer service from Bowflex is top notch compared to the rude customer service I got from Icon regarding the Weider Crossbows. I truly believe you get what you pay for and I can truly say this is one great well built machine and one of the best investments I have made toward my health. The only negative thing I can say about this machine is the high price tag, but other than that this is a great machine that is built to last.

The Revolution is distinguished by the company's SpiraFlex resistance technology, which provides a polished, consistent resistance through the entire range of motion--a principal ingredient in developing lean, strong muscles. The versatility of these lightweight interlocking plates lets you quickly and easily adjust the resistance on the Revolution from 10 to 200 pounds for upper body workouts (which can be upgraded to 280 pounds). The machine duplicates virtually every exercise from your local gym, with Freedom Arms that adjust 170 degrees to work muscles from various angles. The machine also includes a leg press plate for your lower body, along with a five-position foot harness. Ironmaster Super Bench Adjustable weight-lifting Bench Review

Ironmaster Super Bench Adjustable weight-lifting Bench
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I agree that this bench is versatile, especially given all the possible attachments. However, it does have some design flaws or at least shortcomings in my opinion.
First... the legs are not wide enough to give the bench stability when used with attachments such as for the dip and chin. It is serviceable for other exercises, but if it was only an inch or two wider on each side it would be much better.
Second... With this bench you need to change attachments frequently. Unfortunately, the bolt and pin assembly that is used to make these changes is plastic on the part that you apply leverage to. While I don't know of one breaking, it certainly looks like this would be a probably outcome over time. You must also insert the pin and screw it tight with the plastic part referenced above to fully engage the attachments into the frame. We could put spaceships on the moon, but we can't come up with something better here? How much could this improvement cost?
Third... if you are using this unit in a confined area, you will need to move it around in order to switch from flat or incline to decline. This requires removing the seat, adding the situp attachment and reversing your direction. If your set up is close to a wall... you will also have to move the bench.
This is speculation on my part, but if you buy the dumbbell spotting system, it appears that the bench gets more stable from the cross bracing. If you buy the chin up and dip attachments first, you will almost certainly NEED to incur an extra $200+ expense. Who knows if this is intentional, but as another reviewer points out, you don't find some things out until you start using the bench.
On the upside, there are many angle settings, seat positions, etc. The bench also is well padded and looks durable. As other reviewers point out, assembly is easy and this unit has a small footprint. It's rated for heavy weight, but interestingly the seat doesn't lock, it just slips in and as I mentioned above, I don't think the base is wide enough. For weights up to 200-300 lbs. I don't see a major problem, but I would want a spotter if I were handling anything heavier because of the possibility of tipping. (I don't handle weights that heavy, but I'm sure some of you might.)
At the price point, this is a good buy. However, be prepared to spend more money if you want to take advantage of all the features. As one reviewer mentioned, you can't even do decline anything without buying another attachment. I felt this was somewhat misleading given the description of the bench as it was written when I purchased mine.
I suspect this would be GREAT with all the attachments. I'm already heavily committed, but in the end the total cost will be quite high. I think the manufacturer should at least through in the situp attachment that is REQUIRED for decline exercises given that it is advertised as a decline bench. It's a good bench, just be aware of what you are getting and what you are NOT!

Precor 956 w/HR Treadmill - Remanufactured Review

Precor 956 w/HR Treadmill - Remanufactured
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased my Precor 9.21i over 8 years ago and have used it almost daily since then. It appears this model is an updated version of that machine, so it should give you some idea of what to expect. There have been no maintenance problems; once a year, my husband takes the front cover off and vacuums it out. Conversely, my son-in-law purchased a True treadmill two years ago and has had to have repeated repairs.
I looked at all the treadmills out there before purchasing this one. I found its ergonomics to be superior to others - I'm 5'2" tall and some of the models had handrails that were very uncomfortable for my size.
I use my treadmill on the manual setting and like the fact that if I'm interrupted it doesn't go into a sleep mode and lose my time/distance. I generally walk at 3.4 mph and a 15% incline - having reduced my speed from 4 mph and a bit lower incline due to aging feet. One of the factors that weighed into my decision was the fact that Precor allows a greater incline than some others.
If you are going to spend the money on a good treadmill, I definitely recommend the Precor models.
