Stamina AeroPilates Performer 4500 Review

This is the machine I use at the local YMCA's pilates classes. I am a person who usually gets bored very fast with working out. This machine has changed everything!! The Y was only having classes twice a week, and I loved it so much, I had to buy this for home. It is amazing!! Makes me want to work out. I got the Stamina videos to lead me through these exercises at home, so I don't have to think after a long day at work. The one thing I love about doing this at home...I get to chose my own music!!! From someone who usually hates working out, I cannot recommend this machine enough. It gives an awesome workout, I'm usually a little tender the next day. Just enough to let me know it's working!!

Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP 557 Home Pilates Reformer with Free-Form Cardio Rebounder Review

Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP 557 Home Pilates Reformer with Free-Form Cardio Rebounder
Average Reviews:

This looks like a nice piece of equipment and is a step up from the base model which we had before. However, the quality of this unit could clearly be better. The first issue is that the rails come in two pieces that have to be bolted together. It is virtually impossible to get them to line up completely so that there isn't a small step from one rail to the other. This means that you can feel a small thump every time you slide over it. This drives me crazy. The second issue is the footbar. It is removable, but the fit with the brackets attached to the unit is horrible. It has two spring loaded balls that are suppose to snap into the holes on the brackets attached to the unit, but the fit is so poor that they never align. This unit comes with springs and the connection that is welded to each end of the spring looks like it was welded by a high school shop class...very messy! Other than those issues the quality is acceptable. I wish we had purchased a more expensive reformer because it appears you get what you pay for.

The Stamina AeroPilates Pro XP557 is for the person who takes their home Pilates reformer workout seriously and who wants to take the traditional Pilates workout to the next level with the addition of cardio. The Pro XP557 was made eight inches longer than standard reformers to accommodate all heights, throughout all Pilates exercises. Four springs, each with different resistance levels, allow you to refine your workout variations even further. Achieve the long, lean Pilates body as you improve your cardiovascular fitness with the Free-Form Rebounder. You'll lose weight and tone the hips, thighs, and abdominals! Using the AeroPilates Pro is the safest, most effective way to perform Pilates exercises without a licensed instructor, and with the included videos, anyone can learn to use the machine.
Durable frame and oak-finished wood construction give the AeroPilates Pro the quality and look of upscale commercial reformers, but it is more affordable and sized to fit your home. Adjustable ropes, straps, and handgrips are designed to fit any user. Footrest adjusts to three positions, and the rails are eight inches longer than standard reformers, to accommodate taller users. Commercial grade wheels provide the smoothest carriage glide available.
The Cardio Rebounder fits in holes at the base of the machine and functions like a trampoline. The Rebounder allows you to "jump" while lying down on the reformer, so that users of any fitness level can use the Rebounder safely and effectively. The cardio workout is gentle to your joints and connective tissue, and yet allows you to reach and maintain your target heart rate as effectively as with a treadmill. You can turn your feet in or out to hit different muscle groups and reach hard to access thigh, hip, and waist muscles. The Rebounder can be taken on and off the reformer easily.
The reformer is elevated about 15 inches off of the floor to allow for more advanced exercises with a greater range of motion, and to make it easier to get on and off. Adjustable headrest and oversized high-density foam shoulder pads offer additional support and comfort. To use the machine, you lay down on the comfortable cushion that moves back and forth on quiet and ultra-smooth rollers and gliders. The resistance is changed with four heavy-duty springs, allowing you to build up resistance as you develop strength, and adjust resistance for different exercises and muscle groups.
Developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates approximately 80 years ago, the Pilates exercise system develops flexibility, posture, and strength. With the purpose of building core strength, Pilates workouts challenge balance, core strength, stability, and flexibility. The AeroPilates Pro makes challenging Pilates exercises easier to perform properly, effectively, safely and provides optimum challenge and usability for seasoned Pilates trainers and novices alike.

Stamina Pilates Premier XP Reformer Review

Stamina Pilates Premier XP Reformer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have over 7,000 hours of experience teaching on studio quality, spring-loaded Pilates equipment. In the last years that I taught professionally, I cut down my insane teaching schedule by teaching group classes on these machines.
They are safer than spring-loaded reformers because of the bungee cords--springs snap back. Bungee cords will move, but not with the kind of propulsive, really dramatic force you see in springs. Over and over again, I watched students do things on these reformers that would have injured them on spring-loaded equipment.
In my own practice, lack of attention has caused a moment or two of real danger; the worst thing that happened was a flying bungee cord cutting the upholstery.
Safety aside, these provide enough resistance for a really good workout. They are big enough that anyone under 6'2" can do all of the exercises, with the exception of the Semi-Circle, which is a more intermediate exercise anyway. Students with knee and hip injuries reported that they were more comfortable on these machines, possibly because the bungee cords provide less resistance.
Also, these reformers do what reformers were designed to do: in two hour-long workouts a week, these machines increased flexibility, improved back pain and dramatically changed the shape of bodies, just like studio quality equipment would. (Yes, Virginia, there is a way to get rid of saddlebags without lipo.)
Finally, unlike some other pieces of non-studio quality equipment, I can unequivocally recommend these for even very fit men. The runners, bikers and hunters in my classes really found the machine workouts challenging.
Cons: I have never been able to get replacement parts. You will need two people or one man over six feet to move each machine. Attempt to fold them up again at your own peril. Lock them away from children, or vice versa--even bungee cords can cut.

This is a good sturdy quality piece of equipment. I was afraid it might not be stable and function like some of the larger or more expensive reformers. This definitely holds it's own and I'm glad I got this one because I can keep it by the wall and then easily slide it over for the workout. All of the parts work smoothly. As far as the trampoline in the lying down position, I need to start slowly or I get a little nauseous. Most importantly, I have a herniated disc in my center back and the Pilates exercises are helping me enormously. I highly recommend it.

The Stamina AeroPilates with Free-Form Cardio Rebounder allows you to reach and maintain your target heart rate as effectively as with a treadmill. But unlike the treadmill, this rebounder is low impact and gentle on your joints. Because you are lying on your back, there is no concussion on your legs, hips, or spine. Some Pilates' machines feature a padded jumpboard made of solid wood, but the AeroPilates Free-Form Rebounder is like jumping on a trampoline. As a result, there is more give and less shock to your joints. Plus, the AeroPilates strength and flexibility training gives you the strong, streamlined, flexible body that only Pilates can achieve.
This device is elevated about 10 inches of the floor to allow for more advanced exercises and enables you to perform over 50 exercises to tone and shape your entire body. The heavy, steel frame is durable and the four heavy-duty elastic cords provide four levels of workout resistance. The adjustable headrest, along with oversized high-density foam shoulder pads, offer additional support and comfort. This system includes two workout videos, and a color workout wall chart.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this reformer. I am new to pilates and am turning to it after almost two years of lower back pain caused by the after-effects of pregnancy (ie. majorly stretched out muscles). I read other reviews saying that it was big, and it really is. I wasn't fully prepared for how big it is. But I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of this reformer. Assembly wasn't too difficult and I did it by myself. My only suggestion is to pay attention to the number of bolts that are required for each step of the assembly process as illustrated, otherwise it is pretty easy to miss some of the pre-drilled holes and end up with extra bolts. I've only been using my reformer for a week, but I can tell you that it is a fantastic whole body workout. I'm already feeling much stronger in my core and having less back pain. I'm not the kind of person who has ever enjoyed getting on any type of exercise machine. I was a competitive swimmer up until about 8 years ago and I've never really enjoyed any other form of exercise as much as swimming until I found this. I look forward to this workout every day. This reformer was definitely worth the money.

Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with Handles Review

Stott Pilates Split-Pedal Stability Chair with Handles
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the Stott chair and the Stott SPX reformer, and I adore both of them. The chair was my first purchase, because it was less expensive and required less room. When I want a hardcore Pilates workout, I choose the chair. Because there is less room for support (the seat versus the bed of the reformer), the chair requires more core strength for correct execution of the practice. Even the footwork is harder on the chair! I would not get a chair without having had formal Pilates apparatus training. If you have had reformer or chair lessons, though, this is a great piece of home equipment.

Expand your Pilates programming options with the multifunction Stott Pilates split-pedal stability chair. Ideal for folks who need to stay in a seated or upright position, the stability chair helps rebalance your muscles while providing a full-body workout. It also facilitates high-performance exercise for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and rehab clients. And because it's compact and easy to move--with two pedals that move independently or lock together securely to function as a single unit--the chair is perfect for studios or gyms with limited space.
While stability chair workouts typically focus on the legs and torso, the split-pedal chair is adjustable to train other muscle groups as well, including arms, back, chest, and more. As a result, users can achieve upper- and lower-body strength and conditioning during every Pilates workout. Plus, the chair's smaller base of support and dual pedals allow for bilateral, unilateral, and reciprocal movements, helping improve stability and overall balance. And to facilitate lunges and dips, the chair's fully adjustable handles attach and detach easily and lock securely. Other features include a double-steel frame for increased durability and stability, a spring-tension design that adjust quickly with a unique hook-on system for a quick interchange, ultra-soft foam pedals, smooth-rolling wheels for transport, and a seat that measures 23.5 inches wide by 15 inches deep.
The split-pedal chair--which is equipped with two heavy chair springs, two light chair springs, and three hook-on spring attachments--measures 22.5 by 55.5 by 21.5 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 82 pounds. The chair carries a three-year warranty.

Stamina 20-1100 Studio Barre Review

Stamina 20-1100 Studio Barre
Average Reviews:

The concept of this equipment is great. You can do all kinds of strengthening exercises with it, as well as incorporate some cardio work. It's easy to assemble too. However, when I received mine, I was missing four parts (the two sliders and spring pins). When I called and requested the parts, they were immediately shipped to me, no questions asked. When I received them, the spring pin construction was poor. One end includes a plastic knob, with the screw threads in the plastic. One was stripped. I had to go but knobs with metal thread inserts at a hardware store to make it work. Then, after using it for about for weeks, another part broke. Then tension cord attaches to the frame with a plastic clip. Under regular tension, the clip snapped. I just requested a replacement part, though I am sure it will probably not hold either.
So, in summary, if the smaller parts were of a little higher quality, this would be an excellent product. But, the quality is lacking and requires some creativity.

Total Gym 1800 Club Review

Total Gym 1800 Club
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife has been wanting to buy a Total Gym for some time now, and we're glad we waited, because the Total Gym 1800 seems a bit better than the 1700 for a very similar price. We had a hard time finding enough info on the 1800 but decided to take a chance. Although we're not familiar with the 1700, there doesn't seem to be anything "missing" and the 1800 does include a few extras such as larger glide board, and ab boards. It also has leg pulley kit, one foot harness, dip bars, press up bars, and the wing accessory, many of which I think are included in the 1700 as well.
Pluses: Convenient and easy to exercise many different muscle groups, compact and reasonably priced. Adults and older kids can use it comfortably. I don't find it difficult to make adjustments even raising and lowering, but may be difficult for people who weigh only 100 lbs or less.
Minuses or things that may take some getting used to:
(1) Lot of adjusting required. Different exercises require different attachments, some of which get in the way of each other so you don't (can't) have everything permanently attached. At least with the hitch pins it's easy. What's not so easy is adjusting the effort level, because the only way to do this is by raising or lowering the glide table so it's inclined at a different angle (all exercises require raising your body on the glide table, at a steeper angle this requires more effort). So where I've started is level 1 (easiest) for a few exercises, then I adjust to level 3 for a couple of other exercises. While I do expect to get stronger at the level 1 exercises, I kind of doubt that I'll ever be at the same setting for all exercises.
(2) Mechanical design leaves something to be desired. (a) I have yet to find a good place to keep the handles when not using them so they just kind of rattle around on the floor. (b) There's a safety hitch pin, but either I'm not using it right or it doesn't fit well - there's a hole it seems it should go in, but it either goes in cockeyed or it bangs up against the main spring loaded pin that holds one end of the glide table up. (c) There's a velcro pad on one of the rails, the pulley fitting rubs against this and it's going to come off sooner or later. (d) There's a foam pad that goes under the unit. But when you raise or lower the glide table, the distance between the feet changes and the foam pad shifts around. Minor nuisance keeping the unit on the foam pad, I'm inclined (no pun intended!) to get a nice big plywood sheet and keep the Total Gym on that. (e) Depending on the attachments in use, the plastic-sheathed cable may rub on the attachment.
(3) At first it was awkward getting started with each exercise, but I'm getting the hang of it. Seems to help to grab both handles of the rope-pulley and then adjust your body position. And empty your pockets ;-)
(4) Be careful with loose hair. First time my wife tried, her hair got caught in a pulley assembly.
Drawbacks notwithstanding, a good deal for the money.

This seemed the answer to our problem. An effective compact work out machine.
However as I did both workouts I found that the "compactness" was a major problem. I could complete some but not all of the exercises because I "hit" the hard stop on the machine (nowhere left for it to slide). I was very disappointed. I was nowhere near full extension. I spent time seeing if I could sit differently to give me more space but nothing worked. I am 200lbs, 5"10" with a 34" sleeve so I am not a giant. I know form is important so I made sure I was following the instructors carefully. But nothing worked. I do not know how they claim people up to 6' 3" can use this. I had to send it back --- $55 out of pocket.

TOTAL TRAINER Pilates Reformer Home Gym Pro Review

TOTAL TRAINER Pilates Reformer Home Gym Pro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my fiance and I to use. I have always had gym memberships in the past using mostly free weights, but now due to my hectic schedule, driving to a gym is not an option. I have owned a Total Gym in the past. The Total Gym is the one that Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley advertise on TV. Save yourself lots of money, don't buy one of those. The quality of this machine over the Total Gym is unbelievable. You can't compare the two, but I will anyway.
First let's talk price. The Total Gym's price is about $1800.00 the last time I checked. The Total Trainer has a cost of around $500.00. Now let's talk quality. I am a big guy (usually hover around 260 pounds at 6 feet tall) so not only was my weight a concern, but also my height and whether I could get a full range of motion with the exercises. On the Total Gym, my movements on the machine were tricky, due to its lighter construction and its propensity to wobble when I was on it. Additionally, I could not get a full range of motion on several of the movements on the Total Gym. However on the Total Trainer, I have experienced no wobbles at all. This machine is rock solid. On the Total Trainer I am able to perform all of the exercises comfortably. The third thing to compare is the accessories that come with this machine. The Total Trainer includes many more, which would cost additional money for the Total Gym. Finally, exercising on this machine is fun. In fact the first day that I had it, I enjoyed it so much I did 2 complete workouts. I paid for that in aspercreme and Tylenol (don't do that). For a person like me that enjoys power-lifting, but can't get to the gym anymore, this machine is perfect. I can't believe the level of workout that this machine gives me. I highly recommend it. My only complaint is that the machine does not have enough resistance for me on the bench press movements, or the squat movements. The machine also does not allow deadlift style movements to be performed. However, I am stronger than the typical person and if you are like me then you know that this machine will never totally replace a power rack and an Olympic bench (free weights), but still an excellent buy!!!! I really love this machine, and can get a full body workout on it. Thanks!!!

I taught Pilates professionally for seven years. In that time, one of two studio quality versions of this sat perched in a corner of my studio. Comparatively, this isn't perfect, but it's very, very good.
What's fantastic about it:
1.) Real springs. It makes a difference. Springs require control and slower speed--you will get a better workout because you have to do the exercises with more effort to control springs than the comparative effort required by weights.
2.) It folds up!
This folds up into the space that a folding chair would take up; when Joseph Pilates invented the original Wunda Chair, he was trying to create a piece of Pilates equipment that would fit into a tiny New York apartment, or a corner of your average suburban living room; his solution was to create a box that could be used as a chair when its exercise-equipment-side was turned down towards the floor.
This is a better idea. Pilates would have loved it. Instead of a box, it's like a folding chair with no back and an attached platform on the floor. Someone should submit it for a design award. It folds up!
3.) This is a safer chair than some studio quality chairs. In fact, it's much more stable than the first Pilates chair I bought for my studio, which came from a manufacturer in California that I shall not name to avoid their annoying, rude, and distinctly non-refundable legal department.
4.) Mari Winsor DVD's designed specifically for this piece of equipment are included.
Loathe as I am to admit it, Mari Winsor is a genius. About the time that I started thinking about how much you could improve the calorie-burning effect of Pilates by alternating the difficulty levels and tempos, so that it was Pilates-interval training, I discovered that someone had already done that and very successfully marketed it: Mari Winsor, darn her.
The DVDs included in this follow the same 'dynamic sequencing' pattern used in Mari's other Pilates DVD's. On the chair, a very difficult exercise known as Mountain Climber is alternated with less difficult exercises, to make this a very challenging interval-Pilates workout.
What's not so fabulous about it:
1.) The range of motion on the pedal is an inch or two less than a 'real' chair. It may not functionally make a difference, but it feels a little odd compared to studio quality equipment.
2.) The springs aren't interchangeable with other manufacturer's springs: if you are male or a stronger female, it's helpful to be able to put heavier springs and/or bungee cords on equipment like a non-studio quality trap table, the Pilates Extreme, and a Stamina Reformer, to increase the difficulty of workouts. I would also suspect the springs are not replaceable--this is sold as a unit without the option of replacement parts.
Any complaints aside, I love this. It's a real, useable, spring-loaded Pilates chair; it was dirt cheap for what it is; it folds up into a very small space, for the cost of about five private sessions in a studio. Impressive.
P.S. Just read the instructions first. I pulled on the wrong thing when opening up the chair right out of the box, and heard an alarming crack. But you'll be smarter than me.

Beyond Yoga Women's Supplex Long Curve Jacket Review

Beyond Yoga Women's Supplex Long Curve Jacket

This jacket looks way better in the photo than it is in real life. It is made of the exact same fabric as the yoga pant and tank. I guess I would say I liked this jacket if I had the exact same body type at the model. Well, turns out that I don't. I'm 5 feet tall. Apple shape. 125lbs. Short torso. Petite. This jacket needed a lot of alterations most especially in the sleeves which were way to long. It is also way to long for a short torso and since it is not lined shows EVERYTHING you wear underneath. Also dissapointidly the construction is very poor. The design lines are nice but if you had an intermediate sewing level you'd be able to make this jacket yourself. Love the manderin style collar and the shape of the sleeve but seriously for the price I would expect something altogether better. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for this jacket which I did since it was on sale. Oh and think long and hard about even doing that because this company charges a restocking fee on their returns, with shipping, you end up paying more in shipping than you do for the jacket.

I liked my pilates reformer, but it was too low on the ground, preventing me from doing certain postures. This was very helpful and easy to assemble and get the reformer installed on it.
