All-in-one Stand Alone Pull up Bar Review

All-in-one Stand Alone Pull up Bar

I was skeptical that this bar would be sturdy enough to support my 200lbs without a lot of flexing. I was pleasantly surprised. Assembly was quick and easy. I expect to get years of service out of this piece.
If I had one wish it would be for the front and rear of the base to be connected. I pull the bar away from the wall when I want to use it and always have to realign it to get everything parallel. Two small connector pieces would solve this. I will eventually fabricate something for myself. Another alternative would be to put some kind of rubber foot on the bottom.
Second wish might be to offer an extension kit for taller people. I'm 6'4" and while it's certainly tall enough to use comfortably, I would prefer to have another foot of height.

This portable pull up bar is perfect for people who don't want a big bulky "tower" that you can't move. You can assemble and disassemble the product in a minute (no tools required). It comes in 7 pieces (all under 45" in length) and fits in a 48"x8"x8" box. This product is also a "transformer". In its "normal" configuration, it is 7 feet tall, and the top bar lets you do pull ups, chin ups, and "neutral-grip" pull ups. You can adjust the height in 4" increments. In its "dipping" configuration, you take off the top half, so that the top bar is 3.5 feet high, allowing you to do dips, inclined pull ups, and and inclined push ups. Again, you can adjust the height in 4" increments. The construction is rock-solid, hand-welded by guys who make trapeze rigging that people trust their life to. The system can easily handle 350 pounds without bending. The product is made entirely of aluminum, so its lightweight but won't rust. Other pullup bars are made of steel, and can cost over $100 in shipping. Because our product only weighs 23 pounds, we can offer FREE SHIPPING.This product is proudly designed and manufactured completely in the USA.

Body Solid 11-Gauge Pro Power Rack Model GPR378 Review

Body Solid 11-Gauge Pro Power Rack Model GPR378
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A while back I told a physical therapist I knew that I was getting a Body Solid power rack to replace my old cage; which I had built from wood about ten years ago. He shook his head and said "you should have gone with Tuff Stuff".
I got the cage in and assembled it a couple weeks ago, and now I see what he meant. It's ok, but for the price, I would have expected a lot more.
On the plus side, the cage itself is simple, yet solid design. It looks and feels like it will take a lot of abuse. The cage was easy to assemble, even though the instructions were pretty sparse.
Now for the downside; I also got the lat attachment, which is of a much flimsier design. There is a significant amount of friction; more than the cheapo MPEX lat pulldown that it was supposed to replace. The directions for assembling the lat attachment did not match the apparatus; which turned a two-hour task into 8 hours of frustration. I managed to get it together, but ended up with three bolts left over.
Bodysolid makes the claim on their website that the cage will fit any brand of bench. That is true if you only plan to use the cage for bench presses and squats. I'm still trying to find a way to comfortably and safely perform incline presses and shoulder presses with my York adjustable incline bench. If they would have made the cage just a foot deeper, that would have solved numerous headaches. Clearance for the cage is at about 6'2"; so if you are any taller, you'll be ducking down a lot. The folks at Bodysolid were less then helpful on these issues.
Both the liftoffs and safety bars are held in place by cotter pins; whenever you want to change the bars around, you have to pull out the pin, and then remember to put it back in. I can easily see those pins getting lost pretty quickly.
This cage also does not support any attachments for doing dips; which the competitors do.
There is, however, one advantage (which I do not think Bodysolid meant to do, and once they catch wind of it they'll probably figure out a way to eliminate it.) The holes perfectly fit one-inch steel pipes; which are purchasable at most hardware store. Using some of these and a bunch of screw-on caps, I was able to fashion some extra lift-offs so that I don't have to keep moving the lift-offs around. I'm also working on turning some of the unused holes on the cage into olympic weight holders; using a similar setup.
In summary; its not bad, but for the price, I expected something much better.

Champion Power Rack Gym Equipment Review

I bought this item because it was rated for heavy weight and had a tall base since I am 6'7". But the width is much smaller than I expected and the j hooks that you lift the weight off of move thus causing safety concerns the weight may slide or fall off. There are also 3" spacers between heights which I would prefer 1". On the positive side it is very sturdy and can handle a lot of weight. I have no problem putting 600 pounds on the safety spotter for doing partial deadlifts and squats. It is easy to put together and was delivered promptly. Not to mention the price was good. If I had to take it back I probably would and look for something with a wider base, 1" spacers and j hooks that fit differently.

NOT BAD
=========
First off, I'm pretty happy with it, but will try to write another review after 6 months, if Amazon allows that.
MISSING SCREWS
===========
The package was missing all of the M6 x 80mm Button Screws which are mentioned in the manual.
There's a cardboard sheet, covered by plastic which is supposed to contain all of the screws and bolts necessary to put the 390 together. All of the tools on the sheet, are clearly marked. But the 80mm screws aren't there at all - i.e., they are not only missing; there is not even any labeled place for it. The M6 x 80mm screws were completely forgotten when the factory put this together.
Anyway, I contacted Customer Care, using the number in the manual. First day I called the toll-free number, it was impossible to reach anyone. But the second day, it went smoothly. They took down the information, and I received the 80mm screws within a week.ASSEMBLY
==========
Regarding assembly itself, the manual was clear enough. They manual recommends two people, but it took only me, and I'm about average when it comes to assembling these things. It took a few days, moving very slowly, but it could clearly be done in an evening.THE WEIDER 390 POWER TOWER
=============================
The equipment itself seems to operate as expected. The knee pad plate seems unnecessary, so it was removed. You could just as easily use a chair, and bend your knees loosely. That seems to accomplish the same thing.
My purpose for purchasing the 390 was for the pull-ups. My doors can't handle the weight of those pull-up bars which are sold everywhere, so the 390 seemed like a good substitute. A secondary reason was the dips.
Considering that there are no weights on this machine, the whole thing is surprisingly heavy. Nothing that a grown person or two can't re-position occasionally, mind you; just heavier than expected, for a non-weight exercise unit.
I don't care for the stiff-arm oblique knee raises on this machine, but that may be only a personal preference; someone else might find it convenient.
One pleasant surprise was a place for calf raises near the bottom of the unit. Very convenient, that.GENERALLY, OK
===============
In general, it seems fine, but if Amazon permits it, I'll write a second review in about 6 months, with regard to the wear and tear issue.

Offering everything you need for a great workout, the Weider Club 390 Power Tower helps you build muscle and get fit in the comfort of your own home. The Club 390 offers three primary workout stations. First up is a dip station with a foldaway assist pad that helps you perform dips until you're strong enough to do them on your own. Should you choose not to use the assist pad, simply fold it down and move it out of the way. The pull-up station, meanwhile, also uses the assist pad to help you perform pull-ups and chin-ups until you're ready to do them independently. Finally, the vertical knee raise (VKR) station helps you lose inches around your waist, develop ab muscles worthy of showing off, and tone your oblique and hip flexor muscles. The foldaway assist pad comes with 15- and 25-pound resistance bands that add up to 80 pounds of assistance to your routines. The stronger you get over time, the less resistance you'll need to use.

Giant Vertical Knee Raise Review

Giant Vertical Knee Raise

I have one thing to say, never, ever purchase from this company. We purchased the giant vertical knee raise machine in January 2010. The machine came in 4 weeks after the scheduled arrival date and came in with major cosmetic defects. The machines white paint must have been mixed with rust and was chipped all over. After many, many phone calls Yukon sent me out two replacement side parts and promised me touch up paint for the chips. I received the replacement side parts in about 4 weeks time and several additional phone calls. Yukon did not pick up the defective sides, so now I am stuck with an additional bill to take these to the dump! Think about it, I purchase a machine for full price, it is defective, I receive replacement parts and am stuck with disposing of the defective parts. In addition to all of this I have to call Yukon 8 more times for the touch up paint that I did finally receive.
At the end of this mess, I spoke with one of the co-owners of Yukon. He was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken to and has no sense of customer service. My recommendation for anyone is to never deal with this company, you will not be satisfied with your product or any service you may receive from them.

I didn't get mine from Amazon (I ordered it from Jesup Gym), but I thought I'd review it here. This is a nice rack for us non-supermen that aren't moving stacks of 45's every day. I would have no fear putting 300 to 500 pounds on it, but if I were lifting much more than that, I'd probably shop for a stronger rack (maybe one day). Anyway, since there aren't really any instructions (just an exploded drawing) I'll offer my suggestions on assembly.
The way I assembled it was to put the bottom 3 pieces together first (put the feet and plastic parts on now), then add the rear uprights, then the top back piece, then a front upright and top side piece, repeat for other side, then chin bar. Snug the bolts at first, then tighten them all when it's all assembled. Get them good and tight but don't over tighten because the tubing will start to bend in with a lot of force. You'll need two 3/4" wrenches (a socket wrench and spanner work best). This worked well for me doing it by myself and took about 45 minutes including opening the boxes and laying out the parts.
This rack comes in 3 boxes and can be shipped via a regular carrier. This might be nice to know for those who don't live where a freight carrier can easily get to you. Anyway, this rack, a bench, and a 300 pound set can take you a long way. Add some dumbbells and you'll have a nice little home gym.

This power rack is a great way to improve your home gym for a reasonable price. It's a good value and should meet the requirements of all but the heavy duty power lifters. I'm very pleased with it for my purposes of safely training alone with moderate weights. The main shortcoming I see is the 3 inch spacing for adjustments. I would have gladly paid a little more for some heavier gauge uprights with 2 inch or closer spacing. However, I didn't want to spend at least twice as much for that convenience as with other much more expensive power racks. I figure that I can always add a 1 inch board under my bench if the 3 inch spacing is too inconvenient. Although pin operated safety bars might be more convenient, the sabre type included with this rack are fine for my purposes. I added a couple pieces of rubber pipe insulation to them for use as squat depth limiters and it works very well. The size of this rack fits well in my basement with its 7 1/2 foot ceiling. All in all, I think this rack is a good deal and certainly worth the $300 I paid.

Stamina 20-1100 Studio Barre Review

Stamina 20-1100 Studio Barre
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The concept of this equipment is great. You can do all kinds of strengthening exercises with it, as well as incorporate some cardio work. It's easy to assemble too. However, when I received mine, I was missing four parts (the two sliders and spring pins). When I called and requested the parts, they were immediately shipped to me, no questions asked. When I received them, the spring pin construction was poor. One end includes a plastic knob, with the screw threads in the plastic. One was stripped. I had to go but knobs with metal thread inserts at a hardware store to make it work. Then, after using it for about for weeks, another part broke. Then tension cord attaches to the frame with a plastic clip. Under regular tension, the clip snapped. I just requested a replacement part, though I am sure it will probably not hold either.
So, in summary, if the smaller parts were of a little higher quality, this would be an excellent product. But, the quality is lacking and requires some creativity.

Angled Back Machine Review

I received this for Christmas. Full assembly was required, but it was not difficult and can be accomplished in less than a half hour if you have an adjustable wrench and a socket wrench set. My shipment included "revised" assembly instructions in the packing slip. I didn't realize that until I called the shipper for help.
The finished product is very sturdy, moves smoothly, and can be adjusted for position at several locations to ensure a comfortable and effective workout.
I'd have given this five stars if the two grip bars weren't constructed to be so far apart. There are six different grip options, and I'm too short to use one of them due to the wide spacing. That's only remarkable because I'm 6'2" tall.
All in all, a great product at $280.

Powerline PVKC83X Vertical Knee Raise Chin Dip Machine Review

Powerline PVKC83X Vertical Knee Raise Chin Dip Machine

I decided to take a chance on this because the reviews were ok, and it's cheap. Well...it's a good try, but I think that in order to hit the sweetspot of attractive price and UPS shippable packaging, too many compromises had to be made.
Kind of flimsy: I weight about 190, and this thing flexes noticeably under my weight. I can see the pull bar bend as I put weight on it, and when I do dips, the whole thing gets rocking. At no time does it feel like it's going to tip over, but it definitely flexes in use.
Ergonomic nightmare: I'm 6' tall, and for me, the back pad is way too low. When doing pullups, at full extension, the horizontal arms are touching my armpits- it's too narrow. When I do dips, if I'm not careful, I will hit my head on the pullup bar. I understand now why MOST pullup/dip stations place the pullup bar on the other side of the tower. It takes up more room, but it would make a MUCH more useable apparatus.
I think the photos they use are either photoshopped, or they found the tiniest models they could to make the device appear roomy. It isn't.
$200 isn't a lot of money, so I don't feel 'burned' or ripped off...I just wish now that I had built something myself instead.
Look for mine on Craigslist real soon!

Phoenix 99403 Power Stand II Review

Phoenix 99403 Power Stand II
Average Reviews:

This gym is decent once it is put together. Since it is yet another product made in China, it is not really Quality Controlled. I had to use a large hammer to fit one of the top pull-up bars into place. Some of the bolts have damaged threads. The pads used to hold you in place while doing the leg and ab workouts get really slippery when wet, so you have to use towels over them. If your chest is wide like mine, then you will most likely feel cramped in the device.
Overall though it is not a bad gym. For the price (Under $150), and if you get free shipping, it is well worth the money. Just expect to use your own tools and a hammer when putting it together.

Body Solid GDIP59 Dip Station Review

Body Solid GDIP59 Dip Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The sticker on the bottom of this thing says "American Designed - and very well made in China". Well, they ain't kidding. This is one hell of a nice piece of equipment.
For starters, the shipping weight is 42 lbs. This thing is built like a truck. They use heavy steel box-sections for the frame, and the bolt flanges are welded all the way around, not just tacked. The bolts are beautifully plated, and they use nylon-collar lock nuts rather than a pile of split washers.
In case you are wondering from looking at the photo, yes, this thing is tall. The bars are at 53" off the floor. For me, its great since I'm 6'3". However, there is also a cross bar at just the right height to use as a step when mounting. They include strips of no-slip tape to put on it, which is great.
Another thing I was trying to figure out from the photo was how wide the grips are spaced. If your wondering, they have a center-to-center spacing of 21" at the front, and taper outward to 23.5" at the widest possible grip position. The bars themselves are nice and fat at 1.5" in diameter with tough rubber grips. This thing could definitely survive in a gym environment.
The plastic end-caps on the feet are very well made, but are really for carpet. If you have wood floors like me, you will want to put a pad under them. I plan to just buy some adhesive rubber bumpers from the hardware store.
The company apparently does not make a chin up attachment for this unit, which is a shame since the base is definitely stable enough to support one. I plan to bolt extensions on to the vertical members and attach one. I was planning to do this all along, which is the main reason I bought this instead of a lighter model. Call me obsessive, but I really wanted a dip station with full length bars, and all the combo dip/chin stations I saw had only little stub handles for the dip.
Assembly involves tightening just eight bolts. You will need a couple of 3/4" wrenches, or an adjustable wrench and a pair of pliers.
They also include a bottle of touch-up paint. If you're wondering, the paint color is sort of a dull metalic silver-gray.
Overall, these guys clearly take pride in their work. Its very well made with great attention to detail, and even though it's more expensive that some others here, I think its a bargain for the price.

I've made many different pull up bars, trying to save money. Yet this product is worth every penny. It is easy to install and bomber solid. I'm an avid "CrossFitter" - the bar doesn't budge, even with my most violent kipping pull ups.
At first, the bar was a bit too smooth for my taste. A bit of fine grain sand paper gave it a more secure feel for me.
I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a rock solid pull up bar.

This product was very dissapointing for me. Here is why:
1. Dip bars slide left to right no matter how tight the bolts and nuts are. Very unsafe for doing dips. Very poor construction. Need to weld the joints to really use this for dips.
2. Pull up bar gets in the way when doing a dip. Front pull up bar design is terrible
3. I am 6ft tall and the unit is too short to do any decent pull ups. Also, the rubber/foam pull up grips slide right off. Very poor design. Useless.
The only thing this thing is good for is leg lifts and taking up space. I will be contacting the vendor about this. DO NOT BUY THIS TYPE OF EQUIPMENT WITHOUT TRRING IT OUT FIRST. I will be selling this on craigslist.

First off: I received the shipment missing two pieces from the manufacturer. I emailed them requesting assistance. They immediately shipped the missing two pieces to me. I can't fault a company for an honest mistake, but I will commend them for so quickly and easily fixing it.
Secondly, the unit, itself.
A) Construction: I was able to put it together by myself in under 2 hours.
B) Exercises: The pullups are good. Good widegrip and normal pullup options. Very little movement when using. The dips wobble just a little, but the tower is certainly stable. Also, because the dips are on the same side as the pullup bar, there needs to be a slight bit of care to avoid the overhead pullup bar when raising on the dips. This does not hinder the exercise, just requires a little getting used to. Although I don't use them as much, the pushup bars and vertical knee raise bars work well.
C) Space: this is why I purchased this equipment. I had a limited space and this machine excels at that. Because the exercises are all on the same side, the machine fits smooothly up against a wall. I am more than willing to be a little more attentive when doing dips in order to have the equipment fit where I wanted it to.
D) Bottomline: I wanted a pullup and dips machine and I had a limited space to put it in and the Amber VKR Tower - Space Saver definitely met my needs, along with adding two additional exercise options, and all for a very reasonable price ($130 + $55 S&H). I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Stamina 1700 Power Tower Review

My biggest concern was if this can handle 6'3 265lbs of weight. It is sturdy. Only thing I didn't like was the pushup bars but they aren't bad but you can't go DEEP cause there is a bar that will touch your head before you get to that point. I mainly got this for pullups and leg raises anyway it's a nice addition to my home gym. Own mine now for a little over a year I didn't wanna do a review till I knew this was very solid and long lasting.
