Great Product. I have been using it for about a month now, It gives more information then I expected. First time setup takes a few minutes reading the manual and a calibration ride, But after that you pretty much just ride and have fun. Customer service from the manufacture is great.

I first purchased the CS200 and tried it for 3 weeks and upgraded to the CS400 [...].
So this review is somewhat a comparison of the two.
The biggest difference is that the CS400 records information every 5 seconds such as speed, cadence, HR, and altitude. While the CS200 only stores the trip information, max/min/avg speed, max/min/avg cadence ...
For HR monitoring the CS400's every 5 second recordation (this can be adjusted to every second, or to longer intervals) allows me to see visually how long I lasted at peak output as well as a visual graph of escalating HR in comparison to speed and cadence. The CS400 has 5 HR zones. The CS200, on the other hand, records the amount of time in 3 zones (above target zone, target zone, below target zone).
The CS200 only stores its limited amount of information for the last 7 rides. The CS400 stores up to 99 rides worth of information or 14 hours of information when recording every 5 seconds. I commute to and from work and often ride at lunch, so I was having to be sure to upload the information every 2 days or lose the data. With the CS400 i do not have to upload except every 14 hours of riding ( for me thats every other week or so).
The polar personal trainer 5 software that comes with the CS400 is far superior to the webtrainer that comes with the CS200. There are visual graphs, excellent calendering, and the information stays resident on the local computer instead of polar's servers (which makes the whole process slower).
Additionally, I found the IR method of transfering information from the cyclometer to the computer much better than the sonic system used by the CS200. After trial and error I found the "sweetspot" of angle and distance and settings to get the sonic system working - but I would say it was only successful 75% of the time, and then I would have to retry. (the sonic system passes information only in 1 direction cyclometer to computer, so if the computer misses the start of the transmission you have to restart). The CS400's IR method is 2-way so if the Computer misses the start of the transmission it sends a restart command to the cyclometer.
Installation of both products on the bicycle was exactly the same. In fact I left the sensors that came with the CS200 on my bike when I upgraded and only replaced the cyclometer.
There are many other differences, most did not matter at all to me.
I would note that I have not found the altimeter of the CS400 to be very accurate, for instance if you ride a loop you will find your start and stop points to have different altitudes even though it is the same spot. But it does allow you to see relatively that you were climbing or descending and track the correlative speed HR and cadence related to the ascent/descent.
I installed the Polar IR USB module and the polar personal trainer 5 on both XP and Vista computers with no problems.
So. In summary I found both products worked as advertised. But I found the features of the CS400 worth the extra expense.

As I've read in other reviews, the Edge 705 base map is better than the 305 but no where close to what you would expect from an all-in GPS unit. If you want to obtain map detail on your PC and you GPS unit, don't buy the micro SD card but rather purchase the DVD version. I've confirmed from Garmin that if you purchase the DVD version, map detail can be viewed on your PC and the 705. All you need to do is copy the DVD to a micro sd card which you can insert into the unit.
As some of you may have found out, the micro sd card that comes with map detail can not be loaded on your PC which means you won't see the detail from your rides once you download them to the GTC software. Hope this saves some people money as well as miminizes the frustration.

This just came in, so here are some first impressions.
1. I'm not fond of the sensor magnets, both on the speed sensor and the cadence sensor. The speed sensor on the wheel is a bit too bulky, it didn't slip past the flange on the sensor, I had to place it on a far spoke rather than a near one. The Cadence magnet is a kludgy solution, adhesive and a zip tie, a more refined solution would be preferred.
2. Pretty easy to set up, no complaints there. Rubber bands attachments are good and bad, fine for road bikes, not really useful for mountain bikes- use zip ties instead.
3. The ROX STS sensors work with this unit.
4. The ROX handle bar mount and USB docking station are NOT compatible with the Topline series, they use a different number of pins 4 vs 2.
5. The ROX models can record data from several rides, the BC-2209 can only store 1.
6. The proper USB docking station for the BC-2209 won't be out until the Data Center 2.0 software is ready, in April 2010. (I talked to the customer service people to learn this.) Data Center 2.0 will be Mac OS X compatible! (That made the sale for me!)
7. It's waterproof/resistant, at least the rain I got caught in the other night didn't kill it. I'm guessing you're not going to be biking in a scuba suit, so it's waterproof enough.
8. The buttons are on the top and bottom of the unit, and it tends to move if the handle bar mount is attached with the rubber bands, there is an adhesive to stop this, but I'm not convinced the adhesive will hold over the long term, I like a bolt on solution that can really be cranked down tight.
Ok, that's all for now, even with these annoyances I like the unit a lot, it keeps accurate speeds and doesn't seem to lose connection with the sensors, a huge problem for my old Polar S720i.

I have been using this computer for more than 3 months now and here are my observations.
PROS:
1) Overall a good value for the price paid , I think the combination of wireles monitoring of cadence,speed, HR and logging memory is unique in this price range. However, if you want a GPS capable computer then look elsewhere.
2) I like the customized view display and its layout, which is easy to read even during bumpy rides on unpaved roads.
2)The size of the computer is appropriate for its functionality and it is definitely smaller than corresponding Garmin 305 model.
3) I also like the fact that sensor batteries are standard types and can be changed by myself.
4) Accuracy of the computer is reasonable, I did not find more than 2% difference comparing the distance and elevation profiles registered by ROX with topological maps.
CONS:
1) I really don not understand why cadence is not part of logging memory. According to me, this is one of th top 3 parameters you want to monitor during a ride, together with speed and HR. It is quite ridiculous that Sigma is capable logging the air temperature but not the cadence. Was this designed for cyclists or meteorologists?
2) The sensor attachments are rather clumsy , which has been typical even for older Sigma models. Using o-ring combination with double-sticky foams is a cheap solution in this price range. Need to be frequently adjusted especially if you transport your bike in a car and take the bike wheels off.
3) This computer can be used only when attached to the bike base. Once you use it standalone, no HR can be recorded (elevation is the only variable monitored continuosly ) which makes it not usable for runners.
4) The elevation sensor is OK but since it is based on the air pressure (no GPS data calibration) it makes it very sensitive to the atmospheric pressure variation. I noticed that the elevation of my house registered by the computer varied by more than 20 m (60 ft) in a period of ~2 hours. So calibration before each ride is a must.
5) The uphill/donwhill grade measumeremnts are significantly time lagging and they show right values only if you remain at same slope at least for 15-20 s. It means that if you ride in a terrain with lots of short uphills and downhills, the computer will show +6% climb only after you passed the peak of the climb and are already on the downhill section.
Bottom line: It is a good cyclocomputer that reports all relevant variable that most people will need during rides. I find it usefull for improving my ride in terms of adjusting cadence and gear ratio to achieve optimum HR rate range and ability to log and compare my performance stats during short cycling season here in New England.
