Great Product. I have been using it for about a month now, It gives more information then I expected. First time setup takes a few minutes reading the manual and a calibration ride, But after that you pretty much just ride and have fun. Customer service from the manufacture is great.

I've had a few cycling computers in the past that were decent for giving me the basics (speed and distance), then moved to a Polar CS200 as my cycling advanced so that I could add heart rate and cadence to the mix. About 6 months later, I wanted to add power output to the mix. Daunted by the really high price of a PowerTap or it's ilk (not to mention the hassle and expense of re-doing the hub in my rear wheel), I opted to move up to the CS600 so I could "have it all". I've been very happy with the results. I have found that I have all the reliability of the CS200 for heart rate, distance and cadence, and have also added the altimeter, which processes the information to give me the grade of the hills I ride plus the advantage of my power output with the upgrade kit for the CS600.
The power sensor, which incorporates the cadence pick-up is a minimal hassle to set-up, but much less of a hassle than replacing the rear hub (such as with other popular power meters)--and you can install it at home pretty easily. All that is necessary is to place a pick-up on the rear derailler (by replacing a screw in one of the jockey wheels) and to place zip-ties to hold the rest of it in place. There is a little fidgeting to adjust the pick-ups--then you're done. Another really good improvement from Polar is the digital W.I.N.D. wireless transmission. This allows the sensors to be a greater distance from the computer (rather than the prior limited 40cm distance) and no interference from other wireless cycling computers that may be nearby on a group ride. That means more reliable transmission--and also the flexibility to place the speed pick-up on the rear wheel (which I have done).
It is necessary to calibrate this unit for chain weight (a chart with standard weights for popular chains is provided in the instructions), however knowing your actualy chain weight will improve precision. Your local bike shop or the box the chain came in should be able to provide more accurate information. Also, for greater precision, as with all cycling computers, taking a standard measure of rolling tire circumference (in mm) is necessary to calibrate the computer. Once this is done, you're all set to ride!
The data from this computer seems to be quite reproducible. I cannot vouch as to whether the watt output is exactly precise if compared with a "gold standard", but it provides good consistency so you can easily compare one work-out to another and track your progress.
The included software is pretty easy to use and offers really good tracking of progress over time as well as a very good graphical display of each workout, including all the parameters you're set-up to use. (Even if you choose this unit without the power-output, it will still record and display everything else, including speed, heart rate, cadence, distance, duration of the workout, altitude and even temperature. With the power pick-up, the watts are recorded as well.) The software allows you to do a very detailed analysis of each work-out that is easy to follow. You can see how many watts you pulled and what your heart rate was when you were really gutting it out on that steep hill--and it will also calculate the grade to see just how steep that hill was. Another really appreciated feature is that this program and data are on *your* computer, not stored on Polar's website--although you may upload it to their site if you wish. That means you are not subject to having to bow to Polar's website changes or accessibility to access and analyze your workouts.
The one real dissapointment is that although the computer analysis is great and really makes this a powerful tool, Polar chose not to include an IRDA (infra-red) port reader with this cycling computer. The CS600 transmits its data to your home computer through an IRDA port, so it is necessary to purchase this as well if you don't already have one on your computer--and you don't discover until after you've opened the box. If you don't have an IRDA port, you can't access the data from the CS600, so the IRDA port is a critical component to access the value of this cycling computer. Polar should have either chosen to include that port with the CS600 or more clearly stated that it is necessary if you don't have an IRDA port already on your computer.
All in all, I'm very happy with this unit. So much so, in fact, that when I had lost this unit at one point, I ordered a replacement one so I could continue using its features. This is my best recommendation for it--not only *would* I buy it again, I *did*!

Just got my Edge 800 a couple of weeks ago, and until now I'm pretty satisfied, all though there are some small annoying things and that's why I only rate it 3 stars, but that might not influence your product.
1. I have had 3 freezes so far and that's a little to much within the short time I've had it, so I have had to reboot it.
2. The mount is not fit for my MTB, it simply doesn't work well with the handlebar and NOT at all on the stem, so if you have a short stem, be prepared, it might not mount at all.
3. You might need to turn up for the background light to see your data while biking.
About the mount, I did have a Edge 705 the mount for that fitted fine for my MTB with short stem, so I figured this one would as well. I asked Garmin about it and the only answer they could come up with was: "You may be able to purchase larger bands for the mount"... Dah, what does that help, well I figured that's a typical Garmin answer, so what I did was to cut some rubber from a used inner tube tied it with a ziplock and put the Edge 800 mount on top of that... So now I can use it, but are not proud of my setup :-)
Coming down to the digital part, it's great, just notice that the screen is not at all crystal clear and sharp, but it's working ok, the touchscreen is easy to use and does work with biking gloves.
The setup possibilities are great, you can tune it almost 100% into the computer and info you want in front of you, and that's some great features.
I use it for intervals, and setting that up is a little time consuming, but the workout you have when you are done is perfect and 100% yours, the little "info" beep is not loud enough, so I overhear it and mess up my interval, but I guess I need to make more attention, the Edge 705 was way LOUDER.

The Polar RS800CX is my fifth or sixth Polar HRM. I have slowly worked my way up to what I consider to be Polar's best offering. The features available on this unit are absolutely splendid. Every exercise creates a new digital object that one can study to chart one's progress but you can also just gather them as digital remembrances. I can pin point the moment in time when I injured my IT band, the time of the run when my heart rate raced to 194 (against my "theoretical" limit of 170) and the Iyengar yoga class when it sank to 26.
My biggest gripe about all Polar products is the awkwardness of the documentation they provide. All the statements are grammatically correct and all the information is there somewhere but it is organized in an odd manner and I find myself wrestling with "them" to find answers to obvious questions. To unlock all the features, you need to have the units themselves, a computer to get on the web, the paper documentation the unit shipped with, the on line documentation for the Polar ProTrainer software and then you need Google to find the needle in the haystack.
The RS800CX reigns supreme within the Polar family. It is the only unit that can sample, record and export your heart rate, as a time series, at a user selectable sampling frequency, down to once every second. It is currently the only unit that can measure Heart Rate Variation (HRV). HRV provides a measure of your state of relaxation. More precisely, HRV measures how well your parasympathetic nervous system is asserting itself over the sympathetic nervous system. The larger the HRV the greater the degree of relaxation.
The practices of Yoga (asanas, pranayama and meditation) activate parasympathetic influences while activities like running activate the sympathetic nervous system. The beauty of the RS800CX unit is that it actually allows you to track the HRV of different practices. It can measure not only how hard you are exerting but also how deeply you are relaxing. The calories you burn in most styles of Yoga barely rises above the base metabolic rate. But the outlook changes when you look at HRV. When I am running at say 8.1 MPH my HRV is down to 2.1 ms and when I let myself into and hold a posture, like trikonasana, for an extended period of time, in an Iyengar Yoga session, I have seen numbers as high as 90 ms. The RS800CX manual is mostly silent on the value of this feature. I actually track the effect of different styles of Yoga by looking at the HRV they induce in me. I can even tell which teacher, studio and style is right for me! For example, last week during a 90 minute Iyengar Yoga session I expended 167 cal, and ran up a HRV standard deviation of 147, the next day during a 90 minute Ashtanga Yoga session I expended 275 cal and logged HRV standard deviation of 107. Most of us need to burn plenty of calories and also learn to let up and relax. Nearly everyone knows how to burn calories but how does one actively relax. Now you can plan and track relaxation quantitatively. I hear many Ashtanga practitioners say that Iyengar doesn't work for them because they "don't break a sweat" or "nothing is moving". If only they had a RS800CX on they could see the difference in real time!
If you take the trouble to traverse through a somewhat non-intuitive sequence you can get the RS800CX to display any of two dozen measures it tracks in real time right on your watch dial. The hoops to jump through to do this require that you first fire up the Polar ProTrainer application and link your watch to your computer. On most laptops with built in IR ports, this requires that you use one hand to position the watch correctly, so that it can link up with the IR port. With the other hand you must bring up the "Edit Polar Product Setting" menu, and let it sync up. Once it has synced up you can drop the watch and click on the "Product" tab of a menu screen that pops up after the syncing. On the screen that comes up you see a button labeled "Customize Display Sets" which you click on and then a panel pops up drop with this smorgasbord menu of 23 different real time readouts organized around four or five display panels that get activated depending on what accessories you have associated with the RS800CX. So there is more confusion here. If you don't have the cadence or speed sensors accessories, the settings under those tabs will not register on the the wrist unit. Once you make your choices, hold up the watch again to the IR port and click on the sync icon to download to the watch and you are all set.
My last RS800SD died recently- the screen went blank afte about six months. The retailer gave me a full refund and so I bought myself a new RS800CX. Others have said this before, but the RS800CX is significantly better than the RS800sd even though they share accessories. I am surprised they continue to sell the RS800sd. You have to wade through some additional confusion when you try to figure out which RS800CX to get. The main point to remember is that the wrist unit is RS800CX and common to all the bundles that currently exist. You can attach stride sensors, bike sensors or GPS sensors at any point in time to obtain the additional capabilities. If you run on a treadmill a GPS sensor will do you no good, you need the S3, if you bike you need the cadence and speed sensors for bikes. These are little devices that physically attach to your bicycle frame and crank. They will do you no good if you are trying to log data from elliptical machines and stationary bikes in gyms. If you do your panting outdoors or practice multiple activities you likely want the GPS unit to track the route and speed. If you want all three, make sure you are not duplicating accessories by buying packages.
My transition from the RS800sd to the RS800CX took a few hours of persistence. But for the markings the two look identical but work quire differently! I finally managed to figure out how to get an old S3 stride sensor to transmit stride length and cadence data to my RS800CX unit. I was trying to get the old S3 to work with the new RS800CX and although I could easily get the RS800CX to learn the S3 sensor, the cadence and stride length data were not getting transmitted to the RS800CX.
The trick was to (1) Hit the red START button to go into the exercise mode the unit starts to search for the heart rate data then (2) hold down the the upper left "LIGHT" button to bring up a new SETTINGS menu that lists the shoe sensor that had previously been learned by the RS800CX. You can now activate it. When this has been correctly done r1 (or r2 or r3) displays next to where the heart rate normally shows (bottom right of display). r for run even though these features are sometimes grouped under shoes. Once done, the RS800CX seems to remember the association. It was quite frustrating to not find a way to complete this association through the settings menu that one steps through by hitting the up/down buttons. The manual does explain it but this critical feature is awkwardly placed behind a button labeled "LIGHT".
Even though the Polar manuals aggravate me, this unit has changed my attitude towards exercise and wellness by bringing a level of rigor and accuracy that is very addictive. I have spent over a thousand dollars so far buying their stuff and I think it is one of the best investments I have ever made in my health.

As a basis for my review: I'm someone who owns a 305, 705, 500 and 800 (and has the Cyclemeter iPhone app). I've ridden thousands of miles with all of them (well, not the iphone app and 800- yet). I've owned polar watches in the past too. My current set-ups include bikes with a powertap and Quarq. My training rides during the winter include 5+ hour road rides- although this is nothing compared to what the rondo folks do. I'm also a Cat 2 road racer with experience in many many many races. (also race MTB and cyclocross- no track this year)
At first I was a little hesitant about the touchscreen having been so used to my iphone. Is it sensitive? Can I use it with gloves on? I will say for a fact that the touchscreen changes your entire interaction with the device. It does work with gloves- and surprisingly well at that. Have you ever tried to enter data into the 705 using the little thumbstick? Hunt, click, hunt, click. It's a frustrating experience. With the touchscreen it's a snap. Tap, tap, tap. Done. Don't expect iPhone/Android phone screen quality- if you did, you'd be paying a couple hundred more for it (and probably wouldn't be able to use gloves with it)
Benefits over the iphone: screen works with gloves on. Don't need to worry about it getting wet. If I drop it, I don't need to worry about it as much. I still have navigational capability and maps if I'm out of cell range (happens a lot if I'm in the Cascades or the Oregon coastal range).
Another bonus over the 705- the sheer number of screens and discrete informational elements. 3 data screens with a possible 10 fields per each. Plus more available data fields on the map, courses and workout pages. A bike geek's dream. If you want to change one of the data fields- for example, instead of power, you figure you need to see 3 second power, you hold your finger on the field and poof, you can select the field you'd like to change it to. Changing all the fields on the 800 is a much easier process too, and if you don't want a screen, you can turn it off. (most of them at least)
Another big improvement- writing speed compared to the 705. I plug the 705 in and if I have a lot of activities, it takes forever to mount- if you have the 705, you know what I mean- that stinking green bar. The 800 mounts much quicker and the files are much smaller as .fit.
Compared to the 500- it's a completely different unit made for different purposes. The 500 I use in race situations for data collection and I only have a few data fields shown. Distance, power, heart rate and time. I rarely look at it but it's nice to be able to know why I am about to blow at certain points. The 800 on the other hand is great for training- the ability to change fields on the fly, the maps are quite handy to see where roads go and having the navigational ability is handy too. 500 takes more steps to change fields too so I rarely like to change them. Other fields that are available on the 800 but not on the 705, temperature (is at freezing- kinda important to know), watts/kg.
There's still some elements that need to be improved but given Garmin's track record for providing excellent updates, those should be fixed. For example- during workouts, using instantaneous power for narrow band workouts is not the best. If you're trying to work at threshold, instantaneous power tends to bounce around, and it really should have 3 second power as the basis. Otherwise the outside of zone alarm keeps on going off. The other piece I wish for is the ability to custom tailor fields to each bike. (So I choose my cross bike, it shows the appropriate screens since I don't have a power unit on that).
The other improvement over the 705 is the mounting system. It has the twist lock like the 500 instead of the 705 mount with the flimsy push down flap that breaks.
My summary? I for one love the 800- and the linchpin is the touchscreen. It makes the unit much easier to work with over past units. I was a little jaded and didn't expect much from touchscreen but now that I've used it, it has made a world of difference. I would say this is a large step improvement, not incremental.
How would I compare these?
705- 2nd generation, good evolution from 305, data entry a chore, good navigation capabilities, limited screens
500- minimalist, lightweight- great for those who don't need to navigate but want enough info to train with.
800- 3rd generation, UI greatly improved, data entry a breeze, plenty of information available, flexible with potential for more improvements
Is it worth it? Yeah, in my opinion it is. For the amount of time I spend on the road, absolutely.

I first purchased the CS200 and tried it for 3 weeks and upgraded to the CS400 [...].
So this review is somewhat a comparison of the two.
The biggest difference is that the CS400 records information every 5 seconds such as speed, cadence, HR, and altitude. While the CS200 only stores the trip information, max/min/avg speed, max/min/avg cadence ...
For HR monitoring the CS400's every 5 second recordation (this can be adjusted to every second, or to longer intervals) allows me to see visually how long I lasted at peak output as well as a visual graph of escalating HR in comparison to speed and cadence. The CS400 has 5 HR zones. The CS200, on the other hand, records the amount of time in 3 zones (above target zone, target zone, below target zone).
The CS200 only stores its limited amount of information for the last 7 rides. The CS400 stores up to 99 rides worth of information or 14 hours of information when recording every 5 seconds. I commute to and from work and often ride at lunch, so I was having to be sure to upload the information every 2 days or lose the data. With the CS400 i do not have to upload except every 14 hours of riding ( for me thats every other week or so).
The polar personal trainer 5 software that comes with the CS400 is far superior to the webtrainer that comes with the CS200. There are visual graphs, excellent calendering, and the information stays resident on the local computer instead of polar's servers (which makes the whole process slower).
Additionally, I found the IR method of transfering information from the cyclometer to the computer much better than the sonic system used by the CS200. After trial and error I found the "sweetspot" of angle and distance and settings to get the sonic system working - but I would say it was only successful 75% of the time, and then I would have to retry. (the sonic system passes information only in 1 direction cyclometer to computer, so if the computer misses the start of the transmission you have to restart). The CS400's IR method is 2-way so if the Computer misses the start of the transmission it sends a restart command to the cyclometer.
Installation of both products on the bicycle was exactly the same. In fact I left the sensors that came with the CS200 on my bike when I upgraded and only replaced the cyclometer.
There are many other differences, most did not matter at all to me.
I would note that I have not found the altimeter of the CS400 to be very accurate, for instance if you ride a loop you will find your start and stop points to have different altitudes even though it is the same spot. But it does allow you to see relatively that you were climbing or descending and track the correlative speed HR and cadence related to the ascent/descent.
I installed the Polar IR USB module and the polar personal trainer 5 on both XP and Vista computers with no problems.
So. In summary I found both products worked as advertised. But I found the features of the CS400 worth the extra expense.

I purchased the Kurt Kenetic two months ago, and am thrilled with its performance and quality. If you are considering purchasing a trainer, fluid trainers are the way to go. Basically, there are four major types of trainers: Magnetic,Wind, Rim Driven, and Fluid. The later is the best, hands down! Fluid resistance trainers are more quiet, smoother and more realistic than any of the others mentioned. The only drawback to the fluid trainer is that over time they can leak resistance fluid. There are three companies that have solutions to this drawback. I highly recommend that you research all three and test them out where possible. A good review page is Roadbikereview.com . The CycleOps Fluid 2 is ultra smooth and quiet. They have a limmited warranty on thier products, but are known for standing behind their trainers for life, and will fix any issues probably for life! The One Up Trainer has all the advantages of a fluid trainer, but uses no fluid in its designe, it is made in America and carries a life time warranty. The Kurt Kinetic, which I decided to purchase, is IMHO, the best because it utilizes a sealed fluid unit and therefore is guranteed not to leak. These three units are roughly the same price, around $260.00. Steep? Think of it this way, This product is going to be your companion for many winters, so don't buy a loud, crappy one with crappy customer service! You'll regret later that you didn't spend the extra $75 or $80 on a quality product. I also tested the Blackburn Fluid, $100 bucks cheaper, not bad for price, but since it is new to the market I was unsure about durabillity or how well they stand behind thier trainers after warranty expiration. I have heard amazing testimonials of how Cyclops, Kurt, and One Up, have replaced parts and even whole trainers, no questions asked! Google these three companies and see for yourself.

I did a lot of research before purchasing and was down to the 305, 405, and 50. I really wanted a GPS watch, but the price of the Forerunner 50 with footpod and HR monitor couldn't be beat. I also liked the smaller watch and the fact that it didn't need to be charged.
After owning it a week:
I really like the watch. I don't typically wear them, but it is very comfortable. It is only slightly larger than a typical watch and has a fine adjustment on the band. I'm wearing it all the time.
The hardware is impressive. The foot pod and HR monitor worked very well right out of the box, and were comfortable to wear. They "paired" right away and were ready to go when I was ready to run. The ANT installation went as advertised on windows vista, and the upload works automatically for Garmin Training Center, but not Garmin Connect.
Possible improvements:
For the watch itself, the number of "views" while in training mode can be confusing. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it with use or reading manual, but it is clearly more than I'm used to.
Installation: The process seemed to drive you toward choosing either Garmin Training Center (software on your computer) or Garmin Connect (web sofware), but not both. I didn't know the pro/con of either, so I wanted to try both. It was awkward when it wanted me to install ANT drivers again for the installation of the second one. I canceled the installation at that point - but found that Training Center was installed.
Software: It is really not clear to me if Garmin Training Center is still being developed. They seem to be improving Garmin Connect (web) regularly, but at its current state, it doesn't have any benefit over Training Center. (remember - I'm not seeing the GPS/maps, so maybe there is distinction there). So after a week, I still find myself bouncing back and forth. There are a few bugs in Garmin Connect and a few notable features that I would really like to see (that is available in other web training software).
Results:
I'm very happy with the HR monitor and cadence results. They seem spot on and reliable. I'm still working on the distance and pace. I did a test 3 mile run on a measured course and found that it recorded 3.1 miles. I messed up a calibration run by hitting the wrong button, so I'll be trying that again (a subsequent 8 mile run was recorded as a 9 mile run... argghh). I've found that the instantaneous pace is not accurate, but hope it will improve with calibration. Garmin Connect is also doing something weird with the average pace calculation... but I think that is a bug that will be fixed.
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, but hope they continue to improve the software. Currently, that is the weakest link. If they don't, there may be other sites that accept forerunner uploaded data to fill the gap.

Overall, I like the S3 sensor. I love the RS800 (and I also own the Garmin 405 but it sits idle). This is my primary HRM and that's not going to change based on the other alternatives out there. But...
One area that I find troublesome with the product is that periodically the signal from the footpod does not get picked up by the heart rate monitor. It seems to be from the way that the battery contacts are designed. Either the replacement of the battery or the jarring from the running compresses the contact points between the battery and the casing (which are nothing more than springy bands of folded metal). As you might imagine, after a while, these things get compressed and you stop getting signal from your footpod until you go in there and monkey around a bit.
It's addressable and after awhile you get quite adept at managing this. But it seems silly that these guys haven't thought of a better solution around this. I had this issue after the first time that I replaced my battery. I can't imagine that product testing did not reveal this.
Still all that said, this is part of the best HRM product out there for busy runners. I think the Garmin 405 is a neat running toy, but if you're going out every day and you want something that's low maintenance and doesn't require you to religiously recharge the device or stand shivering waiting for the satellites... this is it.
