(More customer reviews)I thought I was purchasing a new item, the IRON MAN bike I received was obviously repacked and had been partially assembled. There was a well used box cutter inside the box. This wouldn't have mattered too much but the item was damaged (my guess that this is the reason it was returned).
I contacted Amazon about this they offered little beyond returning it to them. This would have been difficult due to my physical limitations, the condition of the now well used packaging and the weight of the item, so I contacted the US distributor Star Trac.
Star Trac makes you fill out a form to obtain warranty parts for an item that was supposed to be NEW. After more than 2 weeks I received the necessary parts.
I will not buy another item from them again.

(More customer reviews)I frequently ride a bike outdoors during the summer, but in the winter when the weather is not as good I often go to the gym to ride the exercise bike. None of the indoor bikes I had ridden ever had the smooth feel of riding outdoors - until I tried the Keiser M3 at a health club. I loved it so much, I bought one for myself for home use (the first time I've ever bought home exercise equipment as an adult), and while I've only owned it now for a short time, it is fantastic. Due to the unique design, utilizing magnetic resistance, the feel is very similar to riding outdoors. It is very quiet and very smooth. So I can spin at a fairly rapid rate and still get my heart rate up. And, though I don't do this much, you can also crank up the resistance and make it as hard to peddle as you would like (it has about 24 "gears" so you can continually increase the resistance to virtually whatever level you would like - what is really happening of course is you are simply increasing the magnetic resistance). This is a first rate bike for anyone who is serious about biking and wants something to use indoors that feels like biking outdoors. It is great exercise and does not feel like the typical gym or spinning bikes.
It was easy to assemble even for someone like me, who views changing light bulbs as a modest maintenance task. In total, it probably took about 30 minutes to set up and required little more than a Philips head screw driver, an Allen (sp?) wrench (which I have for my outdoor bike), and either a pedal wrench (again I have one) or an adjustable wrench that would fit the pedals.
Lastly, I would recommend ordering via Amazon or Keiser directly since some of the small third party sellers do not deliver on time. I would not buy from Indoorcyclingstore.com, who appear to be either terribly managed or are dishonest; we initially placed an order through them and six weeks later we still did not have the bike, but they still had our money.

(More customer reviews)I'm a road cyclist who also enjoys spinning classes. I was seeking an indoor cycling bike for winter/bad weather training.
Pros about the bike:
I debated getting the Stamina CPS 9200, which has a 29lb flywheel. I'm glad I got this instead because at 40lbs, the CPS 9300's flywheel is just heavy enough for a solid IC workout. The belt drive on this bike is better than chain drive because 1) it's silent, 2) it's very smooth, and 3) it's maintenance free. Chain drive bikes require occasional cleaning and lubrication, which is fine for a road bike in the garage, but not an indoor cycle that sits on my light beige carpet. The large transport wheels are a plus, but not needed on carpet. I'm 5'4"/135lbs and can move this bike very easily in my gym. Finally, the seat is micro-adjustable horizontally, while adjustable in ~3/4" increments vertically. The handlebar is adjustable in ~1/2" increments vertically. Overall, once everything is tightened, the bike is very stable and solid even while stand pedalling. No wobbling in the handlebar or seat. I can get just as good a quality workout on this bike as I can on the commercial Spinner bikes in class. The simple bike computer that came with this was icing on the cake - it gives workout time and estimated calories, speed, and mileage. The bike was easy to set up at ~10 min to remove from the box and ~15 min to assemble with my husband's help. As is standard in indoor cycles, the "main frame", which consists of the frame, flywheel, drive train/plastic cover/crank arms, was already assembled.
Why it's not 5 stars:
Out of the box, there were 3 problems: rubber sleeve in the handlebar tube was broken, brake pad assembly was severely crooked, and the bike made a scratching noise. I tried to fix it myself with no luck. The company sent us a second bike, which was perfect except it made a different scratching noise. I had to unscrew and adjust the plastic drive chain cover to clear it from moving parts and this fixed the noise problem. The end product I have now runs perfectly, but took some extra labor on my part to get there. Two other minor issues: the bike seat is not confortable. Recall that I ride road bikes with skinny seats, but even with my premium padded bike shorts, this seat causes soreness around the sit bone area. The seat angle is adjustable only slightly. The other thing is that rubber coating on the handlebar is a little rough. I didn't have to wear bike gloves on the Spinner commerical bikes, but on this bike I have to either wear gloves or cover the handlebar with a towel.
Misc info:
The water bottle cage is a standard bike cage that fits all my cycling squeeze bottles. The plastic bottle that came with this bike is a cheap piece of trash. While the right crank arm is welded to the spindle, the left crank arm is bolted in loosely in the factory and need to be tightened with a socket wrench prior to extensive use or it will start to come off in the middle of a workout; but once tightened, it will stay on. The decals on the bike (brand/design stickers) are poorly applied - some are misaligned and some have bubbles. The seat horizontal position adjustment knob must be extremely tight or the seat will start sliding backwards during a workout. While the belt drive train is silent, the brake/resistance pad does make a little bit of noise when rubbing on the flywheel (as should be expected), but it's still much more quiet than a chain drive bike.
My experience with the manufacturer:
So after I quit trying to fix the three problems with the original bike, I called Stamina customer service directly. I got a live person in about 2 minutes and told them about the three issues. The customer service rep shipped me a replacement "main frame", which is everything except for the handlebar, seat, pedals and the feet/stabilizer bar at no cost to me. It arrived in 7 days and I didn't even have to send back the original defective bike. They said I can do whatever I want with it. The replacement main frame happened to have arrived with an extra seat, so now I have almost an entire bike's worth in spare parts.
Overall, I recommend this bike to anyone seeking a commercial quality workout at home.

(More customer reviews)This is a great bike for the price. There are a couple of cheap black plastic pieces but other than that it is well made heavy duty bike. It is not silent, it does make some noise not alot but some. The spring that holds the tension cable near the wheel was scraping the wheel (horrible noise) when I first got on it but I pushed it away from the wheel with my finger and now it is fine. Easy assembly. Its heavy! almost 90lb (teamlift!). The magnets are glued to a plate - gobs of unsightly glue. This doesnt look good but it works I guess. It is not the best of quality in the world but for $260, you cannot beat this price. I would say this indoor bike is worth it if your on a budget.

The bike is extremely sturdy and accommodates both short and tall users. The parts are mostly assembled upon arrival so the assembly is quick and painless. You basically have to put together 4 major parts. No mess or confusion. Great workout! The resistance knob is easiy accessible and not tempermental at all. However, like all spin bikes, recommend a gel seat cover for a more comfortable ride.
Bike also comes with a nice touch....it not only has a water bottle holder, but it also comes with a water bottle. High recommend...especially for the price.

(More customer reviews)So I bought my spin cycle from Amazon approximately a month ago when it was a gold box special...at that price (about 40% off the 699 price) it is a solid deal.
Pros:
- Very easy assembly...the cycle comes 90% assembled and only took me 20 minutes to put together.
- Pretty solid construction / stable
- Price is great if you get it via gold box
Cons:
- Cheap pedals (plan on buying some SPD pedals and shoes for a much more productive workout) I bought the Shimano PD-M324 SPD Pedal 9/16 w/SH-51 Cleat Silver...which have the advantage of having an SPD side and a normal pedal side. This way someone without the SPD shoes can use the cycle. The pedals come with the cleats so all you'll need is the SPD Shoes.
- You will notice a difference between the feel of this cycle and the ones at your gym (for instance the tension adjustments seem less consistent)...of course gym cycles cost three times as much
- The bike is quiet when seated but makes a cricket noise when pedaling while out of the saddle.
Do yourself a favor and take some time making adjustments to get the bike's fit correct...this will help prevent injuries and make for a much more productive workout. There are plenty of Internet sites that will tell you how to do this.
Also...and this is VERY important...use your first workout to get use to the tension of your cycle. I made the mistake of going all out with the tension unwittingly set way too high and strained my knee a bit.
I also recommend ordering a couple of Spinning DVD's...with spinning to get a good workout you can't just ride...it takes speed work, strength work and interval work...and this is much easier to accomplish if someone is pushing you through it. I also recommend a heart monitor. I use the Polar RS100 It will give you heart rate, calories burned and your elapsed time.
In summary if you can find a high end spin cycle used and in good repair that might be a better way to go...but if you can get this bike on sale it will make you sweat and serve you well.

(More customer reviews)This bike has several significant advantages over other spin bikes, but they're subtle and aren't well publicized. They give the bike unusual flexibility and customization ability and are definitely worth considering.
-- Handlebars, seat, and pedals are all standard bike components
Most spin bikes have standard pedals and seat, but NOT handlebars. On the Jet Bike, they can all be swapped out for standard bike components to customize the feel of the bike. For example, replace the pedals with clip-in ones and the handlebars with road bike drop bars.
-- Resistance control and brake are movable
Unlike almost every other spin bike, the resistance control is a paddle style like regular bicycle gear shifts. The brake is a standard grip brake. Both resistance and brake controls are linked to the friction pads via cables and clip on to the handle bars - just like regular bikes. This means you can detach them from their standard placement and put them wherever you like - in my case on one end of the handlebars within easy reach of where my hands rest. Almost all other bikes have a fixed resistance knob located on the frame of the bike.
-- Resistance control has 13 steps, continuous in between
Almost every other spin bike has a continuous knob with no steps or markings. This means that between sessions, you have no reference point for what resistance(s) you used last time. But with the Jet Bike's 13 steps, you'll know, for example, that last week you were between 4 and 8 resistance range, but this week you increased to a range of 5 to 9. This allows you to track your improvement with quantifiable data. You can even set the paddle anywhere between the 13 steps, and the paddle makes a clicking sound when it snaps into the next step. On the down side, the dial isn't marked with numbers, so you'll either have to add your own markings or remember what step you're on.
-- Handlebars are adjustable up/down AND pitch
The ability to adjust the angle of the bars is unusual among spin bikes and allows you to achieve a more comfortable position.
-- Handlebars have arm pads and a unique shape
The handlebars have arm rests attached to the straight section which make leaning with your arms out parallel in front of you much more comfortable. Also, the handlebars have an unusual shape that more closely mimics a road bike position.
-- Lifetime frame warranty, 1 year parts
One of the best warranties on a spin bike.
This bike isn't perfect. The flywheel is 31 lbs, which is a little lighter than I would prefer, but you can always make it heavier by adding self-adhesive weights (but make sure it stays balanced). Also, the seat (like many spin bikes) is relatively hard and uncomfortable if you're not used to that style -- but the good news is you can swap it out with a more comfortable one. Like most spin bikes, there is no computer, but you can pick one up for less than $30.
Overall, the bike is very well built and sturdy. I'll update this review when I've had more time to use it, but so far I'm very impressed and think its unique features will give it great longevity. Hope this helps.

UPDATE:
While I'm still very much enjoying this bike, I must make a note about the drivetrain. When applying a lot of force to the pedals (for example, when standing up), I get a slight shuddering sensation on the downstroke. It's not major but it is a bit disconcerting. I tried adjusting the tension of the chain to no avail. Also, one of the pedals makes a popping sound when it reaches the top of its rotation. Again, it doesn't affect performance but is a little disconcerting. I noticed these issues from the very beginning, and they haven't changed after 9 months. I plan to contact Bladez and see what they say. Otherwise, I can say that after 9 months of riding, the bike is holding up well. Only other complain is that the tension control is too sensitive and that only about the bottom 1/3 of its range is useful (above that it gets impossibly hard to pedal). However, this might be intentional so that as the brake padding wears, there is room for compensation.

Phoenix 98623 Revolution Cycle Pro II Exercise Bike Review

(More customer reviews)This bike is great gym quality for half the price of spinner NTX and schwinn. I used the NTX at the gym and other than the fact that te NTX is cooler looking, it preforms the same. If you compare the spinner pro/elite or the schwinn models to this one, they have basically the same frame, plus the braking/resistance pads on the pheonix is the same as the schwinn only with a couple inprovements.
The ntx resistance pad is a single direct pressure on the outside of the flywheel---which is esentially the same as a drum brake. A single pad with less surface area leads to increased wear and needing to replace the pad sooner. whereas the pheonix and the schwinn use 2 pads compressing the flywheel---like a disc brake.---increased resistance surface and better resistance, decreased wear on pads.
It is as sturdy and well build as the NTX.-even has the same handlebars--minus the bottle holders. It is heavy---130 lbs but has wheels for moving.
Only thing to consider is that the bike seems to be build for larger individuals. I'm 5'6" and anm only 1 notch away from being the lowest seat post adjustment and the seat is 1 notch from being farthest foward. So I'm thinking 5'4" should be the height requirement for this ride.
Seat that comes with bike is cheap-so take your seat off your normal bike and put it on this and note that the pedals are just medal with straps--not clip-on compatible but for the cost of a new seat and pedals-your still looking at 3/4 the cost of a scwhinn-NTX.
and note the all black frame is fun put your favorite stickers on.

(More customer reviews)We originally were trying to save money and so purchased a chain driven spinner for less than $300.00 in light of the really good reviews for that bike. It was loud, noisy, and the tension had very little range. We returned it immediately. I love to spin and have spinned on a Lemond Revmaster Sport, Star Trac NXT, Star Trac Elite, and the cheapest Star Trac model. The Lemond Revmaster by far is the smoothest one. It allows for micro adjustments, which is important as I am 5 feet tall and my husband is 5' 11". We decided to go for it and purchased the Lemond Revmaster Pro. It is well worth every dollar. It is smooth due to the fact that it is belt driven as opposed to chain driven. It has a large range of tension. It feels like a road bike for indoor use. The handlebars are ergonomically designed too! We love this machine and I would highly recommend it if you are serious about spinning. Spinning is a great low impact cardio workout. You can burn so many calories in just a 30 minute workout. Very efficient. I would not try to save money and get the best out there. I also did ad nauseum research before purchasing this spin bike.

When our customers get to test ride all of our indoor cycles, they usually gravitate to the Revmaster because it is so smooth, quiet and sturdy. Even when the average American stops using their exercise equipment a few months later the scrap value on this thing will probably fetch half it's price back if not more. That is also a con. This thing weighs almost 150 lbs and is solid metal which makes it difficult to move unless you have some muscle on you. There are front wheels for rolling it around on the front (lifting the back) but it's still a lift. It will take 2 people upon delivery to get it around the house especially if stairs are in the path. The seat isn't the most comfortable thing on this bike. It's not bad, but sitting there for 30 minutes is really gonna start to hurt. Foot pedals are awesome. They have very nice straps on them - you do need to wear shoes with this bike. I have what looks like wrestling shoes that work fantastic. Assembly is pretty easy with only 6 steps for completion, tools are included to put it together.
It comes with no electronic monitors so your speed, time, distance travelled or calories burned is up in the air. You could probably easily buy a monitor to attach so that isn't a biggie to me.
I scored mine for 550.00 on here with free shipping. Would I do it again... well that seat does really hurt after awhile but probably because I have to say for the price I really do have a great bike that does work very nicely.

ProForm 290 SPX Indoor Cycle Trainer Review

(More customer reviews)19July 2010: I purchased this item in mid-June, and have owned it for several weeks. I got it as a replacement for the used StairMaster PT4400 I had and loved, but it broke down on me. I paid $1200 and did not want another used one at +$4K, so I looked for other options. I never even considered a "spin" bike, because I did not know what they were! However, I wanted to keep costs under $400. One day in a Sports Chalet, I tried one---BLADEZ FITNESS JET, a solid bike. I exercised for about 5 minutes and knew the spin bike would meet my need for cardio. However, the JET was $599, over my budget.
RESEARCH: I did a LOT of research on the internet, and boy, these spin bikes have been falling like rocks! I finally found the Proform 290 SPX at a store called the Sports Authority for $299 (regularly $399). They just put one together that was not even on the floor yet, so I had to go in the back to test it. After a couple of minutes, I again saw that a spin bike would work, so I purchased it. My experience at some spin classes at 24 Hour Fitness taught me that the standard seat would be too uncomfortable, so I also purchased an old-school wide seat with jell padding, which turned out to be a good decision.
ASSEMBLY: I am NOT a mechanically inclined guy, and this thing was easy for me to put together. The only things to attach were the handlebars, peddles, and the feet, and the tools were all supplied, although I used my ratchet wrench because it was faster.
WORKING OUT: The bike is pretty stable. My weight was about 250 when I started out, and the Proform 290 SPX is rated at a max weight of 250lbs, but I know items like these have a "safety factor" and can take more weight than 250lbs. I get a great workout with this bike.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPX 290 AND THE STAR TRAC AT 24 HOUR FITNESS: I am comparing the SPX with a more expensive bike, the STAR TRAC, because for those who are new buyers (like me) it will show one does not have to spend big money to get an effective spin bike.
The Startrek is an outstanding bike made for commercial use. The big difference is the Startrek has more resolution in changing resistance; in other words, it takes more turns to vary the resistance. On the Proform 290 SPX, as I turn the knob where I can feel resistance, I only have about a half turn to get to the maximum resistance, and I cannot turn the knob anymore. However, this is not a problem. The main point is that the user knows the "sweet spots" of resistance settings for the bike.
Once I get going, I only turn the resistance knob in one quarter to eighth inch increments throughout the entire exercise, and I easily maintain 77-81% of my heart rate. Other differences between these two bikes is the because the Star Trac is a commercial bike, it will take a 350lb person, and the cabling on the Star Trac is covered by the frame, so getting sweat on the cables and fasteners is greatly minimized. I overcame this by putting clear RTV over the screws and foot pedals (not the handlebar) and I put a hole in a small towel and put it over the resistance knob to keep my sweat off the break cabling. This is important, for water and salt from sweating will eventually corrode the fittings. On a final note, the STAR TRAC SPINNER PRO is about $1000 compared to the price of $299 I paid.
SETTING THE PACE: I have seen reviews on these bikes where people say it should have a computer. Well, that's fine, but this will add to the price. All I use is a clock, the countdown timer from my watch, and a heart-rate monitor (the most important tool). The clock I use to track my workout time. I have the countdown timer on my watch set to repeat every 90 seconds. Moreover, the heat-rate monitor I use to pace myself.
THE FIRST TEN MINUTES, I go in 90 second intervals, alternating between sitting and standing, increasing the resistance in eight-inch increments.
THE REST OF THE EXERCICE, I go in 10 minute stretches. I maintain an even pace at 70-75% of my heart rate. At the end of the 10 minutes, I do another interval standing up and pedaling (also known as a standing hill climb) for 90 seconds with more resistance and get my heart rate up to +85%, then level back down to 72-75%.
Thus, in a 45-50 minute routine, I start with a 7-10 minute segment of intervals increasing the resistance to get my heart rate going. After that, I do 2-3 segments of 10-minutes each at a constant pace, and end each of these segment with a 90 second standing hill climb. The final two minutes I wind it down.
MINOR ISSUE: The only thing about this bike (not enough to rate it lower), is that there is a high-pitched "hum" I get from the flywheel, but it disappears after after about half-way through the exercise while I maintain an even pace. The "hum" has no effect on the flywheel operation or resistance settings.
TRAINING: It benefited me to go to spin classes at 24-hour fitness to learn how to setup and ride the bike. They offer a week free trail, so it is a great low-cost way to learn. In addition, YOUTUBE has some great videos on how to ride spin bikes. Just type in "spin bike setup," and a bunch of videos will pop up.
GOOD ON THE KNEES: Although I loved my StairMaster PT4400, there were many times my knees felt a bit weak, but never enough to force me to stop using it. However, there is NO issue with the knees on the SPX 290. At my age (51), this means a lot!
CONCLUSION: This review was long because I know there are people out there seeking information. I have benefited greatly from the many reviews on various products, and wanted to get my "two-cents" in. This bike is a great buy, and one does not have to spend +$800 for the high-end bikes to get a good workout.
