To open this review I would like to explain the service and process I needed to go thru to get the equipment up and running, Then a product review.
I purchaced this in the middle of march and it was delivered 4 days late in a box that looked very torn up. It was only being held together by the plastic bands, the box had been torn apart at both ends. Because I received it late I did not have time to assemble it for a week. When I began to assemble I noticed that I was missing screws, bolts, and the 'included' tools. So I went online to ask about this. On the Stamina website a form is provided for serial number to be included with any request. I went over every part included and every page of the manual and could not come up with a number. I found a place in the manual that told me where to look for the sticker with the number, but I did not have any such sticker. I sent the request anyway with my explination. After 2 weeks I had no response so I called their support number. A friendly person told me that she could see my request in the system but there was a delay getting parts for this item because it was receiving a lot of orders for parts. A package was eventually shipped to me and it included almost everything I needed. I tried to assemble again and got as far as step 6. I needed a carrige bolt to go thru the beam that was not included. I decided to go around stamina on this one and purchaced the bolt at Lowes. The instructions are very plain and would do well to take a page from IKEA and give a few more pictures.
Now my bike/rower is working and ready. 2 months after purchace.
A metric socket set is a big help if you want to assemble quickly. The provided slim flimsy wrench is a pain.
PRODUCT REVIEW.
The bike / rower is completly as described in function. The computer however is very poor. The handheld heartrate monitor is like a carnival weight guesser. I am a very in shape 27 year old and i can check my heart rate before i begin working out and it will read 95-105. during my workout the numbers jump all over from 70 to 115 with no reason. I have tested this theroy many times before adding this to my review, it does not measure a good BPM. The buttons other than MODE do not function and must be for asthetics. The bike display does turn on when the rower or bike is used and turns off by itself as it should. The calories burned is very optomistic compared to the gear at my gym. The other readouts are good but when taken as a whole I largly disregard the readouts altogether except for time of workout. Needless to say the computer here is the large dissappointment of the item.
The magnetic system for bike and rower are good. It provides a good range of resistance but I don't beleive that the resistance is tied into the 'calories burned' computer as level 8 registers same as level 2.
There could be a tougher setting too, as for rowing at maximum resistance is still a bit soft for the strong arm. I was hoping for some extra excercise by holding the row bar palm up and pulling for curls but there isnt enough 'weight' to make this worthwhile for me.
The rower is very quiet! This is a redeeming quality that the bike really needed. The bike is quiet too but can get clanky if you accellerate hard as the weight shifts laterally. This is rare however.
The rollers and pedals seem up to the task and look and feel durable. I will update if needed if parts wear out prematurly. The fold up is quick and very easy. I actually had no intention of ever folding this away after I assembled it. Now i realize how effortless and quick it is I have been folding it in the corner. The seat is adaquate and built for the 20 minute workout. Beyond a half hour I find the firmness too much to continute to sit, especially when using as a bike. I have boney hips however and I do find a lot of workout equipment seats too wide and hard.
I weigh 180 and am 6'3" I can extend fully with the rower and never hit the rear stopper. Also I have plenty of legroom to lock in the bike and could actually extend the seat and lock it in a position for an even loger legged person. I wish cars were this roomy.
The item is easy to handle, lightweight enough to move alone. I am overall glad to have it and hope it stands up to continued use, it looks like it will. Well worth the money just for its solid feel and apparent quality. Apart from getting it up and running I can definatly reccomend this piece of equipment. ITEM 4/5CUSTOMER SERVICE 2/5Overall 3.

Featuring a battery-operated monitor displaying speed, distance, time, calories burned, and heart rate, this two-in-one machine combines a recumbent bicycle and a rower for two types of low-impact strength and cardio workouts. Moving a pin switches from one mode to the other. In either bicycle or rower mode, magnetic resistance provides a quiet, smooth workout, whose intensity can be varied by turning an eight-position knob without interrupting a workout. A foam-padded seat glides on a ball-bearing roller system along an aluminum rail during rowing, and adjusts to fit different leg lengths for recumbent biking. For bicycling, oversized pedals and adjustable foot-straps hold feet securely to improve pulling motion, in addition to pushing motion. For rowing, a heavy-duty nylon strap and foam grips keep hands stable and comfortable. Assembled, the machine measures 74-1/4 inches long x 23-1/2 inches wide x 34 inches high and weighs 108 pounds. Folded for storage, it measures 34 inches long x 23-1/3 inches wide x 56-1/2 inches high.
About Recumbent Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Received the bike, easily assembled. But, looks like for the cost of these there would be some convenient features, like a simple on-off switch, you have to plug and unplug from a wall outlet, otherwise the displays stay on. There is a a self generating electrical source but when you pause there is a chance the display will go off requiring a restart and reentering the information. There is no memory and each time you use the bike you have to re enter your age and weight. When you are 72 and weigh 295, it takes a lot of button pushing. Bought the ifit SD card
and am not sure how it owrks. It controls the resistance but not the RPMs although the voice says we're increasing the RPM. Wrote the company where I purchased, as the manual stated to do, and they directed my inquiry to
FREEMOTION, wrote them twice, and no reponse. Sell 'em and forget 'em. Small improvements like battery backup and a simple on off swith would make the bike more enjoyable.

Ironman 1711 Recumbent Bike Review

Two days ago I purchased an Ironman 1711. It was a floor model so no assembly was necessary. I'm glad it was assembled because the instructions for assembly look daunting. Still, another reviewer said he and his wife assembled their 1711 in about 90 minutes.
Since I will be using my machine for calorie burning and cardio exercise only, I have no use for all the bells and whistles which come on higher priced, (and bulkier), exercise bikes. This one comes with a battery-operated display which shows Time; Speed;, Distance; Calories; Pulse; and Pulse Recovery. The instructions include suggestions for pulse rate during exercise, but since I take blood pressure medication which lowers my heart rate I intend to use my own good judgment to determine my rate of exertion.
The machine is solid, but the maximum user's weight is listed at 250 pounds. I weigh 230 and feel secure. (Actually I feel fat, but that will change. The machine handles my size nicely.)
I'm starting with 10 minute workouts for the first week, so I haven't clocked much time on the bike yet, but so far I am really pleased. I think this machine will do the trick for me. The only negative is that my butt gets sore even after 10 minutes, but I attribute that to my newness to the saddle, not to the saddle itself - which seems well made.
If you are militant about workouts and a zelot about exercise equipment, then you may want to pass this one up. But if you want a simple, sturdy, home exercise machine to help you burn calories and to get into better cardio shape, then this machine is worth your consideration.

I purchased this recumbent bike April 2010. It arrived in a damaged box and after inspection the wiring harness was damaged. It is being returned. In a follow-up email to Amazon, I learned that this unit was discontinued in 2008 and that Treadmill Doctor is selling off the remaining units. It is not worth the price.

I am not happy so far with this purchase. The assembly instructions had an error on the very first step which cost me about 45 minutes of wasted time. After I finally figured out the error and finished assembling the bike, I found that the PULSE function was not working properly. After about 4 minutes of riding, it was still showing my pulse at about 58. I wish I were in that kind of shape! I felt my pulse which was actually somewhere in the 130's. I have tried several times to get the pulse to work properly by holding both the upper and lower bars, but nothing works. I will have to return this IRONMAN bike, unfortunately.
On a positive note, the bike is VERY quiet and smooth while pedaling.

I purchased this primarily for the bicycle. I couldn't spend the money on a good recumbant bike and I didn't want one of those bikes with the crappy seat on it. I was pleasantly surprised that each exercise that you can do with this provides the same type of resistance that each of the machines at Curves does. No, you don't have music or "cheerleaders" present, but it does the job. If the bicycle is VERY important to you, I would just buy a recumbant bike instead. The bike works, but does not have a heart rate monitor. It's very simple and probably not as smooth to operate as a recumbant bike. It DOES tell you the distance and time.

The result is a full-body circuit-training routine that keeps your heart rate up while you burn calories and tone muscles. The machine easily adjusts to every position you need, with stations for working the chest, biceps, shoulders, back, triceps, quads, hamstrings, and just about every other major muscle group.
The NeoShaper employs torque and friction to produce the same resistance all the way through the movement. Its ergonomic design, meanwhile, aligns to the body's natural movements to create an efficient workout that's easy on delicate joints. The design also eliminates your ability to cheat by swinging traditional weights, giving you a more concentrated workout in less time. And users will love the MiniCycle attachment, which encourages you to really get your heart rate pumping.

The NeoShaper comes with several informational accessories, including a body sculpting guide, a body sculpting video, a workout log, and a weight loss guide. The body sculpting video acts like a personal trainer, giving you the guidance and motivation you need without spending thousands of dollars. The weight loss guide, meanwhile, complements the NeoShaper by providing meal plans and nutritional advice that align with your fitness goals. Best of all, the NeoShaper's compact and contemporary design fits terrifically in almost any room.

The NeoShaper measures 32 by 37.25 by 52 inches (W x H x D) at its widest point, while the MiniCycle attachment measures 14.25 by 13.5 by 20 inches.

I've had my Lifecycle 5500 HR fitness bike since 1997 and I've loved the workout I've gotten from it over the years. The 9500R is pretty close to it, except for the seat model. You get the same high quality digital control system that gives you all sorts of hill profiles, fitness levels, and programmable exercise time. The digital progress bar lets you see where you are on your workout and shows you the number of equivalent miles you have ridden as well as calories burned per hour. I haven't needed any type of maintenance done on it so far in the last nine years even with all of the regular use I've given it.
If you are going to purchase an exercise bike and you are serious about the time you want to invest in your workout and the quality you want, don't accept a cheap substitute. Spend the extra dollars and get a lifecycle. You won't be sorry.

First off, thanks to the other reviewers for the assembly tips. My assembly time was approximately one and a half hours. The only thing I'd add (which may seem obvious to some) is to not rely on the tools included with the bike. You will definately want a ratchet wrench. I also had none of the problems with the seats needing extra washers.
As for the bike itself, I love how quiet it is. I just finished a session while watching one of the AFC playoff games and didn't feel the need to adjust the volume on my television. The computer seems to work pretty well and because my eyesight isn't what it used to be, the large display is much appreciated.
My only concern is that the seat could be a little more comfortable. But I bought this thing to exercise, not lounge, so for it's purpose it's adequate. All in all, a very decent product.

Body Max XRM7000 Electromagnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Body Max XRM7000 Electromagnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike

I purchased this item as part of a gold box promotion. The bike is nearly fully assembled. It took about half an hour to get it assembled. The instructions for both assembly and operation are not very good. There is an addendum (at least in mine) packed in the instruction book. It is very unclear. What I painfully discovered is that the lever that tightens the seat position needs to be adjusted before mounting the seat. If you don't get it in exactly the right place, the seat has to be removed before you can lock the seat into position.
In terms of operation, the bike has a few issues. The center column is impossible to keep tight so the console wobbles. The pulse monitoring sensors almost never work. The eddy current resistence works very well. The seat and the bike itself are rugged (and heavy -- 120 lbs 60 kg). Parts do tend to loosen and the connections between them are not well thought out.
For the money (when it was on sale), this exercise bike is a good deal. The console display is very similar to the ones I have seen in gyms. The bike has some good pre-programmed exercise routines.
Just be aware that this bike will need periodic tightening. This is a home machine and is not as rugged as the exercise bikes found in the typical gym.

Kettler HKS RX7 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

We have now had this bike for about one month.
Pluses:
1. super quiet. You can ride it while baby naps.
2. very comfortable.
3. with a recumbent it is easy to relax and read
while riding.
Minuses:
1. It is inherent in a recumbent bike that it is
not so easy to work the heart rate up--too easy
to just relax and read. Still, if this causes you
to use it more, maybe that is not so bad.

Stamina 15-9003 Deluxe Conversion II Recumbent / Rower Review

Stamina 15-9003 Deluxe Conversion II Recumbent / Rower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great piece of equipment. If you are wondering if quality is compromised as a result of the 2-for-1 deal, you'll be very happy to know that it isn't. This is a smooth and quiet piece of equipment. I am very impressed with it. It is of very nice quality.
It took me about an hour to put together because I was being very attentive to the directions and taking my time. At first sight, the instructions are slightly confusing but it only takes a few minutes of looking over everything to understand them.
The monitor is of nice quality and has several different modes: time, speed, calorie, pulse, RPM and distance. It's actually built into the bike/rower with this model as opposed to being on top like a very similar model that currently goes for $100 less. To me, it looks better built in as it is with this model.
Now that I've said that, what I specifically like about this bike/rower is that is really more like a 3-in-1 machine. You not only get the bike/rower combination but they built it for strength training as well.
I was pleasantly surprised by this as I didn't know that was included. (I had searched through countless exercise bikes and forgot the exact details of this one except for the essentials.) But when you receive it, the manual includes diagrams of strength training exercises you can do with the machine and how you can do them using it.
You can do the following strength training exercises with the machine: back and abdominal, bicep curls (works the arms), upright row (works the arms), buttocks, leg stretch, and leg extension.
And as I said, they include diagrams/pictures of these in the instruction manual.
This extra bonus, for someone like me goes a long way, seeing as I was trying to find some easy/clutter free ways to strength train besides using resistance bands.
So now I can use it for building muscle/strength to increase my metabolism as well. In the end, I'm very glad I parted with the cash in order to get it.
This bike/rower/strength trainer is everything I need. I'm a mildly lazy exerciser. I currently have Xavix and like using it with the JMat as well as the boxing and tennis games to walk/run indoors (in place) among other exercises, but sometimes I want to sit down and work out.
Doing that everyday just got boring. I wanted to mix it up a bit so I figured a bike/rower would help a lot. Especially since I could even alternate between biking and rowing to keep those two interesting (5 min. biking, 5 min. rowing and so on). And adding my walking/running, boxing and tennis to it gives me a lot more to do and have fun in the process again.
I used to hate getting up in the morning to exercise but this bike/rower/strength trainer made it exciting again. Now I look forward to biking, rowing and strength training and more. I got a mini home gym going.
I highly recommend this product for anyone who's lazy like me and wants something easy/fun to do to keep in shape.

Rowing and cycling are widely considered two of the best all-around activities for cardiovascular fitness and strength, and now you can enjoy both workouts in a single device with the deluxe Conversion II recumbent bike/rower. Rowing is an efficient total body workout that uses all the major muscle groups, including the legs, arms, shoulders, abdominals, and buttocks. It's also one of the best exercises for building a strong back, as well as one of the most effective low-impact aerobic exercises for people who want to increase their metabolisms and burn more calories without hurting their joints. Stationary cycling, meanwhile, is also a terrific low-impact cardiovascular exercise, with a routine that focuses on all the major muscles in your hips, thighs, and buttocks.
The Conversion II looks like a standard rower, with a molded, adjustable foam-padded seat and seat back, rotating rowing pedals, and an extruded aluminum rowing beam. However, the seat also doubles as a recumbent bike seat that supports your lower back while you ride, with foot straps holding your feet securely in place as you pedal. And that's not all, as the Conversion II also offers options for working your upper body--including such exercises as bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, and forearm curls--along with a resistance cord that attaches under the seat for light leg presses.
Other details include eight levels of smooth, quiet magnetic resistance; a multifunction electronic monitor with a large LCD display that tracks speed, distance, time, calories burned, and pulse; sturdy steel construction; a hand-pulse sensor built into the grips to measure heartbeats per minute; a weight capacity of 250 pounds; wheels for easy transport; and a folding frame for quick, effortless storage. The Conversion II measures 74.5 by 25.5 by 10 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 105 pounds.

After much research and discussion we settled on the Stamina 7100 because it wasn't too heavy for us senior citizens to handle. We weren't sure it would be a quality product, but ordered it anyway. It arrived in less than a week. We took the parts out of the box for ease in carrying it down to our rec room - at 100 pounds it had been a heavy load. My husband assembled it in two hours - an arduous job, but compared to others I heard about, not extreme. After assembly it turned out to be solid, smooth riding, comfortable with the back support and wide seat, and a really positive surprise. The computer programs were easy to set and perfectly adequate. I don't know how much more a person would need in a home exercise bike. I recommend it highly. J. Rowley

ProForm 385 CSX Recumbent Bike Review

(More customer reviews)
The bike assembled easily enough. The manual is good. I needed an extra set of hands when mounting the seat. My wife and I have been averaging a total of 15 hours riding a week. Recently, about 3 days before the manufacturer's full 90 day warranty was about to expire, we began sensing a grinding in the pedal assembly. The vibration could be felt with our feet. I had registered my product with the manufacturer so when I called their Customer Service, they had me on record. The person I spoke with was very courteous and here is the outline of things to come. After I described the problem the Rep said they would ship me the parts necessary to perform the repairs. These parts if not under warranty would have exceeded the cost of the machine. I am supposed to be contacted by a local company and when I actually receive the parts, I will schedule with them to come out and install the parts and perform any required service to restore the bike, primarily alignments after parts replacement. All of this is to be at no cost to me. If this all happens as described I would rate the waranty service top notch. Having said that, I'm concerned that the problems arose in less than 90 days of relatively minimal use. I use the program modes and have never been able to get the lights to display that I'm in the proper target range, regardless of my speed, I'm always shown as over speed. The console says I'm at 25 MPH on average. I don't think the sensor or console is properly calibrated and there are no instructions in the user manual to accomplish that, outside of the one sensor alignment. For the price of the unit, up to this recent issue, it has worked well for exercise. After my initial conditioning, I have been using it 7 days a week averaging 1.5 hours per session, by 3 of the 30 minute program modes. It has helped me to lose 41 pounds since Thanksgiving 2009, along with a change in diet. Except for this premature failing, when the machine functions properly, it is good and I would recommend it as a low cost home machine for it's purpose. I also have an issue with the seat adjustment knob. It is a friction hold with some sort of composite tip jammed against the frame. I initially had an issue with it slipping, but I've been able to overcome that now, although it still must be over tightened, so that my wife can not adjust it when I tighten it so it doesn't slip. I must change it frequently from my wife's use to mine due to our different leg length. Doing my 1.5 hours the seat becomes uncomfortable. An added pad changes the angle to the peddles so that's not an option. I wish they could have made the seat from gel foam or a replacement upgrade was offered. I haven't found one yet. Overall, for the price and if I get the warranty repairs completed, I still consider it a fair to good purchase. The company offers a 3 year parts and labor warranty for $79.95 and I would highly recommend inquiring about it if you plan to purchase and keep this machine for an extended period. Be careful if removing the plastic side shields for inspection of loose parts or to adjust the sensor. The screws run in to plastic standoffs molded or sonic welded to the inside of the side panels. Seeing that on the drawings I was very cautious and used a hand screwdriver, not powered, but still managed to twist off a couple while removing the screws. I'm supposed to be sent two new panels as well as some more screws and the pedal bearing assembly, which is thought to be the crux of the grinding sound.

As a physical therapist, I was in need of an upper body exerciser.
The stamina elite in general does a good job, but in my eyes has a few shortcomings.
There is no resistance on the upper body pedals when you're bicycling at the same time, and there is no resistance when you're pedalling backwards on the upper body either.
The seat tightener also is a little cumbersome and required a call to the manufacturer after trying different configurations.
All in all, about what I expected considering the price, other UBE's sell for $2000.00 and up.

Great bike, it really is, takes a while to put together, A WHILE, not for people under 5' 10" that's my height and it's just perfect on the lower setting of the seat for me, my wife is 5' 1" and she can't use it, can't reach the pedals.
Wish I knew these ahead of time. If I had known that, and what it took me to put it together, wouldn't have bought it. I would have chosen a diff. model and one that was assembled already..
