Stamina Conversion II Recumbent Bike / Rower Review

To open this review I would like to explain the service and process I needed to go thru to get the equipment up and running, Then a product review.
I purchaced this in the middle of march and it was delivered 4 days late in a box that looked very torn up. It was only being held together by the plastic bands, the box had been torn apart at both ends. Because I received it late I did not have time to assemble it for a week. When I began to assemble I noticed that I was missing screws, bolts, and the 'included' tools. So I went online to ask about this. On the Stamina website a form is provided for serial number to be included with any request. I went over every part included and every page of the manual and could not come up with a number. I found a place in the manual that told me where to look for the sticker with the number, but I did not have any such sticker. I sent the request anyway with my explination. After 2 weeks I had no response so I called their support number. A friendly person told me that she could see my request in the system but there was a delay getting parts for this item because it was receiving a lot of orders for parts. A package was eventually shipped to me and it included almost everything I needed. I tried to assemble again and got as far as step 6. I needed a carrige bolt to go thru the beam that was not included. I decided to go around stamina on this one and purchaced the bolt at Lowes. The instructions are very plain and would do well to take a page from IKEA and give a few more pictures.
Now my bike/rower is working and ready. 2 months after purchace.
A metric socket set is a big help if you want to assemble quickly. The provided slim flimsy wrench is a pain.
PRODUCT REVIEW.
The bike / rower is completly as described in function. The computer however is very poor. The handheld heartrate monitor is like a carnival weight guesser. I am a very in shape 27 year old and i can check my heart rate before i begin working out and it will read 95-105. during my workout the numbers jump all over from 70 to 115 with no reason. I have tested this theroy many times before adding this to my review, it does not measure a good BPM. The buttons other than MODE do not function and must be for asthetics. The bike display does turn on when the rower or bike is used and turns off by itself as it should. The calories burned is very optomistic compared to the gear at my gym. The other readouts are good but when taken as a whole I largly disregard the readouts altogether except for time of workout. Needless to say the computer here is the large dissappointment of the item.
The magnetic system for bike and rower are good. It provides a good range of resistance but I don't beleive that the resistance is tied into the 'calories burned' computer as level 8 registers same as level 2.
There could be a tougher setting too, as for rowing at maximum resistance is still a bit soft for the strong arm. I was hoping for some extra excercise by holding the row bar palm up and pulling for curls but there isnt enough 'weight' to make this worthwhile for me.
The rower is very quiet! This is a redeeming quality that the bike really needed. The bike is quiet too but can get clanky if you accellerate hard as the weight shifts laterally. This is rare however.
The rollers and pedals seem up to the task and look and feel durable. I will update if needed if parts wear out prematurly. The fold up is quick and very easy. I actually had no intention of ever folding this away after I assembled it. Now i realize how effortless and quick it is I have been folding it in the corner. The seat is adaquate and built for the 20 minute workout. Beyond a half hour I find the firmness too much to continute to sit, especially when using as a bike. I have boney hips however and I do find a lot of workout equipment seats too wide and hard.
I weigh 180 and am 6'3" I can extend fully with the rower and never hit the rear stopper. Also I have plenty of legroom to lock in the bike and could actually extend the seat and lock it in a position for an even loger legged person. I wish cars were this roomy.
The item is easy to handle, lightweight enough to move alone. I am overall glad to have it and hope it stands up to continued use, it looks like it will. Well worth the money just for its solid feel and apparent quality. Apart from getting it up and running I can definatly reccomend this piece of equipment. ITEM 4/5CUSTOMER SERVICE 2/5Overall 3.

Featuring a battery-operated monitor displaying speed, distance, time, calories burned, and heart rate, this two-in-one machine combines a recumbent bicycle and a rower for two types of low-impact strength and cardio workouts. Moving a pin switches from one mode to the other. In either bicycle or rower mode, magnetic resistance provides a quiet, smooth workout, whose intensity can be varied by turning an eight-position knob without interrupting a workout. A foam-padded seat glides on a ball-bearing roller system along an aluminum rail during rowing, and adjusts to fit different leg lengths for recumbent biking. For bicycling, oversized pedals and adjustable foot-straps hold feet securely to improve pulling motion, in addition to pushing motion. For rowing, a heavy-duty nylon strap and foam grips keep hands stable and comfortable. Assembled, the machine measures 74-1/4 inches long x 23-1/2 inches wide x 34 inches high and weighs 108 pounds. Folded for storage, it measures 34 inches long x 23-1/3 inches wide x 56-1/2 inches high.
About Recumbent Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Ironman 1711 Recumbent Bike Review

Two days ago I purchased an Ironman 1711. It was a floor model so no assembly was necessary. I'm glad it was assembled because the instructions for assembly look daunting. Still, another reviewer said he and his wife assembled their 1711 in about 90 minutes.
Since I will be using my machine for calorie burning and cardio exercise only, I have no use for all the bells and whistles which come on higher priced, (and bulkier), exercise bikes. This one comes with a battery-operated display which shows Time; Speed;, Distance; Calories; Pulse; and Pulse Recovery. The instructions include suggestions for pulse rate during exercise, but since I take blood pressure medication which lowers my heart rate I intend to use my own good judgment to determine my rate of exertion.
The machine is solid, but the maximum user's weight is listed at 250 pounds. I weigh 230 and feel secure. (Actually I feel fat, but that will change. The machine handles my size nicely.)
I'm starting with 10 minute workouts for the first week, so I haven't clocked much time on the bike yet, but so far I am really pleased. I think this machine will do the trick for me. The only negative is that my butt gets sore even after 10 minutes, but I attribute that to my newness to the saddle, not to the saddle itself - which seems well made.
If you are militant about workouts and a zelot about exercise equipment, then you may want to pass this one up. But if you want a simple, sturdy, home exercise machine to help you burn calories and to get into better cardio shape, then this machine is worth your consideration.

I thought I was purchasing a new item, the IRON MAN bike I received was obviously repacked and had been partially assembled. There was a well used box cutter inside the box. This wouldn't have mattered too much but the item was damaged (my guess that this is the reason it was returned).
I contacted Amazon about this they offered little beyond returning it to them. This would have been difficult due to my physical limitations, the condition of the now well used packaging and the weight of the item, so I contacted the US distributor Star Trac.
Star Trac makes you fill out a form to obtain warranty parts for an item that was supposed to be NEW. After more than 2 weeks I received the necessary parts.
I will not buy another item from them again.

I am not happy so far with this purchase. The assembly instructions had an error on the very first step which cost me about 45 minutes of wasted time. After I finally figured out the error and finished assembling the bike, I found that the PULSE function was not working properly. After about 4 minutes of riding, it was still showing my pulse at about 58. I wish I were in that kind of shape! I felt my pulse which was actually somewhere in the 130's. I have tried several times to get the pulse to work properly by holding both the upper and lower bars, but nothing works. I will have to return this IRONMAN bike, unfortunately.
On a positive note, the bike is VERY quiet and smooth while pedaling.

Body Max NeoShaper with MiniCycle Review

I purchased this primarily for the bicycle. I couldn't spend the money on a good recumbant bike and I didn't want one of those bikes with the crappy seat on it. I was pleasantly surprised that each exercise that you can do with this provides the same type of resistance that each of the machines at Curves does. No, you don't have music or "cheerleaders" present, but it does the job. If the bicycle is VERY important to you, I would just buy a recumbant bike instead. The bike works, but does not have a heart rate monitor. It's very simple and probably not as smooth to operate as a recumbant bike. It DOES tell you the distance and time.

Strengthen, shape, and sculpt your body regardless of your current fitness level with the NeoShaper trainer. Packaged with a handy MiniCycle that helps boost your cardio performance, the NeoShaper takes the place of 40 pieces of professional gym equipment--all bundled within in a single machine. The NeoShaper's PowerShaper resistance system allows you to quickly and easily go from one exercise to another and set just the right amount of resistance to maximize your workout. The result is a full-body circuit-training routine that keeps your heart rate up while you burn calories and tone muscles. The machine easily adjusts to every position you need, with stations for working the chest, biceps, shoulders, back, triceps, quads, hamstrings, and just about every other major muscle group.
The NeoShaper employs torque and friction to produce the same resistance all the way through the movement. Its ergonomic design, meanwhile, aligns to the body's natural movements to create an efficient workout that's easy on delicate joints. The design also eliminates your ability to cheat by swinging traditional weights, giving you a more concentrated workout in less time. And users will love the MiniCycle attachment, which encourages you to really get your heart rate pumping.

The NeoShaper comes with several informational accessories, including a body sculpting guide, a body sculpting video, a workout log, and a weight loss guide. The body sculpting video acts like a personal trainer, giving you the guidance and motivation you need without spending thousands of dollars. The weight loss guide, meanwhile, complements the NeoShaper by providing meal plans and nutritional advice that align with your fitness goals. Best of all, the NeoShaper's compact and contemporary design fits terrifically in almost any room.

The NeoShaper measures 32 by 37.25 by 52 inches (W x H x D) at its widest point, while the MiniCycle attachment measures 14.25 by 13.5 by 20 inches.

With Computer Keiser M3 Indoor Spin Cycle Stationary Indoor Trainer Exercise Bike Review

With Computer Keiser M3 Indoor Spin Cycle Stationary Indoor Trainer Exercise Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I frequently ride a bike outdoors during the summer, but in the winter when the weather is not as good I often go to the gym to ride the exercise bike. None of the indoor bikes I had ridden ever had the smooth feel of riding outdoors - until I tried the Keiser M3 at a health club. I loved it so much, I bought one for myself for home use (the first time I've ever bought home exercise equipment as an adult), and while I've only owned it now for a short time, it is fantastic. Due to the unique design, utilizing magnetic resistance, the feel is very similar to riding outdoors. It is very quiet and very smooth. So I can spin at a fairly rapid rate and still get my heart rate up. And, though I don't do this much, you can also crank up the resistance and make it as hard to peddle as you would like (it has about 24 "gears" so you can continually increase the resistance to virtually whatever level you would like - what is really happening of course is you are simply increasing the magnetic resistance). This is a first rate bike for anyone who is serious about biking and wants something to use indoors that feels like biking outdoors. It is great exercise and does not feel like the typical gym or spinning bikes.
It was easy to assemble even for someone like me, who views changing light bulbs as a modest maintenance task. In total, it probably took about 30 minutes to set up and required little more than a Philips head screw driver, an Allen (sp?) wrench (which I have for my outdoor bike), and either a pedal wrench (again I have one) or an adjustable wrench that would fit the pedals.
Lastly, I would recommend ordering via Amazon or Keiser directly since some of the small third party sellers do not deliver on time. I would not buy from Indoorcyclingstore.com, who appear to be either terribly managed or are dishonest; we initially placed an order through them and six weeks later we still did not have the bike, but they still had our money.

The result of more than a decade of cycle development, the Keiser M3 is like no other indoor cycle you've ridden before. Keiser scrutinized and quality tested every single component of the M3, from the top of the comfortable handlebars to the bottom of the rock-solid base and everything in between. The centerpiece of the M3 is its eddy current resistance system, which offers infinitely adjustable resistance. This creates a vigorous, challenging workout along with a remarkably smooth, whisper-quiet ride. In addition, the cycle is built to last, as the resistance system doesn't wear and is virtually maintenance-free. And to keep you comfortable throughout your ride, the M3 includes a four-way adjustable seat (up, down, forward, and backward), dual-position comfort handlebars, and adjustable Shimano combo pedals.
The M3 is also equipped with a sophisticated computer system that tracks your rpm, power output in watts, kilocalories, heart rate, pedaling time, resistance, and trip distance. Other features include a gravity-based water bottle holder, an anti-slip belt, and a smooth resistance shifter. Designed with the needs of fitness clubs in mind but portable enough for the home, the M3 carries a three-year warranty.

Schwinn 113 Upright Exercise Bike Review

Schwinn 113 Upright Exercise Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While I agree that this bike has many desirable features for the money, I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for.
On the positive side, the bike is built of solid components. It is almost silent when in use. The electronic readout is well laid out, and the program features are plentiful for the pricepoint.
On the downside, the quality of construction is lacking. The main problem I had right out of the box was with the RPM/speed sensor. When I tried the bike out, the RPM readings would frequently peg at 199 RPM or drop to zero. This throws off the distance calculation too. Obviously this would be unacceptable for anyone on a training regimen.
A couple calls to the knowledgeable and helpful Nautilus/Schwinn customer support line sorted this problem out. Apparently this was not an uncommon problem. Turns out that the flywheel revolution sensor, underneath the plastic base cover, was installed in the wrong place. The sensor is attached to the frame by a couple machine screws. I was informed there was a bad batch of 113 and 213's that had the screw holes mis-drilled. (If this happens to your bike, move the black plastic sensor so that it lines up directly with the magnet on the flywheel, and is 1/8th an inch away from the magnet. By the way, it will take some doing to remove the plastic cover, and access is tight unless you remove the pedals - this is not a 10 minute fix.) This bike had not been QA tested, otherwise the problem with the sensor would have been discovered. Seems like Schwinn should have recalled these bikes rather than letting the consumer "find" them.
On a lesser note, the welds are a bit sloppy, and the paint job is smudged in several places. The electrical connectors look pretty cheap. What is ironic is that the bike has a "Schwinn Quality" badge on the front. The price is low becuase of low cost manufacturing overseas.
Overall, it's a good bike and I'll keep using it. It still seems like a good deal relative to a StarTrac or Life Fitness bike that is at least double the cost, but you get what you pay for.

About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

This product is a black hole. I wish I would have taken the recommendation to get something else. I thought the first time this product broke down within a week that it was just a fluke, so I had it replaced with another. It costs waaaay too much and takes up too much space to waste this much time and energy on. My recommendation-look at reviews and buy a machine that works.

LifeGear Magnetic Recumbent Bike Review

First off, thanks to the other reviewers for the assembly tips. My assembly time was approximately one and a half hours. The only thing I'd add (which may seem obvious to some) is to not rely on the tools included with the bike. You will definately want a ratchet wrench. I also had none of the problems with the seats needing extra washers.
As for the bike itself, I love how quiet it is. I just finished a session while watching one of the AFC playoff games and didn't feel the need to adjust the volume on my television. The computer seems to work pretty well and because my eyesight isn't what it used to be, the large display is much appreciated.
My only concern is that the seat could be a little more comfortable. But I bought this thing to exercise, not lounge, so for it's purpose it's adequate. All in all, a very decent product.

I'm not used to things being easy to assemble, but this cycle was. Remarkable product, and I think I will use it, which as been the problem with previous exercise equipment I have bought. The box that arrives weighs 278 pounds...so be prepared to deal with that.

Body Max XRM7000 Electromagnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Body Max XRM7000 Electromagnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike
Average Reviews:

I purchased this item as part of a gold box promotion. The bike is nearly fully assembled. It took about half an hour to get it assembled. The instructions for both assembly and operation are not very good. There is an addendum (at least in mine) packed in the instruction book. It is very unclear. What I painfully discovered is that the lever that tightens the seat position needs to be adjusted before mounting the seat. If you don't get it in exactly the right place, the seat has to be removed before you can lock the seat into position.
In terms of operation, the bike has a few issues. The center column is impossible to keep tight so the console wobbles. The pulse monitoring sensors almost never work. The eddy current resistence works very well. The seat and the bike itself are rugged (and heavy -- 120 lbs 60 kg). Parts do tend to loosen and the connections between them are not well thought out.
For the money (when it was on sale), this exercise bike is a good deal. The console display is very similar to the ones I have seen in gyms. The bike has some good pre-programmed exercise routines.
Just be aware that this bike will need periodic tightening. This is a home machine and is not as rugged as the exercise bikes found in the typical gym.

We have now had this bike for about one month.
Pluses:
1. super quiet. You can ride it while baby naps.
2. very comfortable.
3. with a recumbent it is easy to relax and read
while riding.
Minuses:
1. It is inherent in a recumbent bike that it is
not so easy to work the heart rate up--too easy
to just relax and read. Still, if this causes you
to use it more, maybe that is not so bad.

CycleOps 100 Pro Indoor Cycle Review

CycleOps 100 Pro Indoor Cycle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
PROS:
Solid platform for climbing and sprint work (you can grid and pull out of the saddle as much as you want with no fear of tipping the bike), smooth chain and hub system, quality construction, large fly wheel - very road like performance, smooth resistance (not 'grabby'), all the adjustments you could want for a perfect fit, comfortable road-like ergonomic saddle, quiet operation even when free wheeling
It looks like a work of art! I really wanted to put it in the middle of my living room as it looks so cool, alas wife wouldn't let me - something about me being a big dork.
CONS:
Narrow resistance band (from 0 - full within 3/4 turn of dial)
This is the indoor bike I was looking for. Better fit that a standard spin bike, more stable for climbing and sprinting that my bike on a trainer.
With an extra transmitter ($30 bucks) was able to mount my Garmin 705 to the unit (setup a second bike profile using the flywheel circumference) for at least speed, average, heart rate, and distance data. Was unable to figure out a way to also get the cadence working. If you want data you have to upgrade to the 200 model. CycleOps offers an upgrade kit to turn your 100 in to a 200 with electronics (everything but power output), but it will cost over $500 bucks! I went the cheap route and am happy with everything via the Garmin unit.
Also - original order said it would be at least a week and a half to delivery, but lo and behold, there was the box in my driveway three days after the order was placed - it was like Christmas! One word of caution - the bike is very heavy (+150#) so get help moving it. Setup was easy and used the tools included in the box. Set of Look Keo pedals fit perfectly, but the toe clip / spd combo pedals included looked nice as well.
This thing with a few videos from "Sufferfest" going to make a huge difference come next spring. Hope to drop a few pounds on the way ... we will see.
