Reebok 1000 X Elliptical Review

I have had this elliptical for about a year. It is one of the best non commercial grade ellipticals i have been on. I like it far more than half of the machines at lifetime fitness. It has a good incline option. I would say that the heavier resistance is a bit much. only needs 15 at the max. the 20 is like riding brakes. I love the options to plug in my ipod and other mp3 players!
great buy for the price...btw...you can get them for about 900 tops!

FreeMotion Freestrider s5.6 with 35-Inch Variable Stride Review

FreeMotion Freestrider s5.6 with 35-Inch Variable Stride
Average Reviews:

I never write reviews but felt compelled to write one for the Freemotion f5.6 and its manufacturer, ICON Health & Fitness Inc. due to the awful experience I am having with this "lemon" of a machine. I purchased it in September 2010 from FitnessBlowout and it took a month to get delivered. In the two months that I have had it, it has not worked properly once. First it was the track Shield would not align properly, causing the wheel to scrape along the track shield. This apparently is a known issue because they had a replacement kit to send out. Next it was a screw on the handlebar that would not stay tightened. The solution for this was to glue it in place...how long do they expect that to work??? Incidentally, the same thing is happening on the opposite side. Last but not least, the power cord is faulty. The display turns on and off randomly. ICON is going to send a replacement per the warranty but will not expedite shipping unless I pay for it. According to customer service, that's the company's policy - no exceptions.
So to recap, I paid $1200 for a piece of exercise equipment that has not worked properly once in 2 months and rather than spend $15 to overnight the part to me and resolve the issue ICON Health & Fitness has decided to further agitate an already severely agitated customer. It boggles my mind how incredibly short-sighted some companies can be.
My advice would be to keep looking for a piece of equipment with a better (and longer) track record and a manufacturer that actually believes the customer comes first...I wish I did.

Stamina Air 1725 Cross Trainer Elliptical Review

Stamina Air 1725 Cross Trainer Elliptical
Average Reviews:

I agonized long and hard over which elliptical to buy. I did not have much money to spend and I was afraid I'd really be compromising. This elliptical was simple to assemble by myself and I really like using it. It isn't perfect and shifts a bit on one side, but this could easily be construction-error on my part. Even so, the workout is great and I'm very happy! I've been using it for about a month and so far no complaints. I don't expect it to hold up for more than a year or so of heavy use, but hopefully I'll be surprised!
UPDATE: Nope - it did not hold up. Similar to other reviewers, I have had problems on the left side. The arm will not stay attached causing the entire left side to fall apart during use. No amount of fiddling can fix it. Now I'm hoping the manufacturer's warranty is decent. I was only able to use it for 60 days - at $2/day it turned out to be an awful, abysmal deal in the end.

Combining air resistance and electronically controlled tension, the compact and affordable Stamina Air 1725 elliptical cross trainer provides a cardiovascular workout in your home that also helps shape and tone legs, hips, glutes, and abs. Since your feet never leave the pedals the Stamina Air 1725 Cross Trainer gives a low-impact workout that is easy on your joints. In fact, whereas jogging, jumping rope, aerobics classes, and exercising on a treadmill all require your body to absorb the force of impact, exercising on an elliptical can be compared to running in midair. Because ellipticals are so low impact and easy on the joints, they are also a good choice for older people or for individuals who have old injuries.
Up and down buttons adjust the resistance to control the intensity of your workout. The foot pedals can be worked in a forward or reverse direction. Resistance may be added as desired to increase the workload on your legs throughout the forward or backward stride to tone thighs and glutes. The exercise monitor's built-in fingertip pulse sensor tracks your heart rate so you work out within your target heart rate zone.

About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED) Review

Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've written a review on the e95 as well - I'll say go read that rather than have me write a complete novel here. :-)
After deciding the e95 had some features I didn't like and that the e35 would suit my needs but I'd like just a little beefier machine and a computer with a numeric keypad - I ordered this one directly from Sole. The box came... it was HUGE. The delivery guy helped slide it down our cellar steps so getting it in the house wasn't too hard but you might want to spring the extra cash for in-home delivery if your situation is more complicated. (The box is about the size of a small-ish fridge... I've turned it in to the best box house ever for my son. If you have kids, they'll love this)
Once it was in - assembly took maybe 2 hours but we weren't exactly trying to break any records. Assembly is very straight forward and the nuts and bolts are packaged in a tray with little compartments so you have just what you need for steps 1, 2, 3, and 4.
One complaint about assembly - this beast is HEAVY. Which is a good thing, for when you're working out on it - but I look at this thing and I think, my god, it's never coming back out of this house. We bought this house 3 months ago and I am not sure it's our "forever" house. So I wonder if an elliptical adds to the value of a house. Not that we're going anywhere any time soon with the market having just dropped but... I do wonder, will it ever come back out.
Working out on this machine is AWESOME. It compares *very* favorably to the LifeFitness machines I used at the gym before I got pregnant with my twins. They're now 8 months and I had to stop using the elliptical pretty early in my pregnancy so I'm really not in the best shape now - and this machine kicks my butt. Which is good! But it's kind of humiliating. I am using resistance level 3 for now and hope to get better soon.
So far I only use the manual setting on the computer and my one complaint is you can't add time on the fly like you could with the LifeFitness machines. You have to wait until the program is over and then you can hit "start" to do it again - but it does keep going from your current distance and calories burned, at least, so it's LIKE just adding time - it would just be nice to be able to add time. (For all I know though maybe you can - and I just haven't figured it out. Such a small annoyance, though!) (Update - I've figured out if you want, you can just hit "start" twice when you get on and it will count up, rather than down, so you can just keep going as long as you like)
All in all I am very pleased with this machine. I can't help but wonder if the e35 wouldn't have worked out just as well but I wanted a little beefier flywheel and I have it.
The only mechanical issue we've had with the machine is you need to keep the tracks greased or it makes a noise like styrofoam coming out of a cardboard box. EEEK! Machine comes with a tube of grease (actually a white tube with "LUBE" written on it in large black letters, the most generic thing you can imagine... we thought it was hilarious...)
Great machine, very pleased.

Enjoy an efficient full-body workout without heading to the gym with the Sole E55 elliptical trainer. Boasting a heavy 30-pound flywheel, a high gear ratio not found on most comparable models, and a pair of upper body handles, the E55 delivers an extremely smooth workout with plenty of top-end resistance. Users will also appreciate the unique oversize and adjustable foot pedals, which were designed in collaboration with a leading physical therapist and sports enthusiast. The pedals are not only extra large, but also feature a 2-degree inward slope that reduces the ankle and knee stress that's common in other elliptical machines. The collaboration also produced a revolutionary foot pedal angle adjustment not found on any other elliptical. Taking into account that not everyone walks the same way, Sole engineers made the E55's pedals adjustable to fit the way you walk. This also reduces the likelihood of numb toes and sore Achilles tendons.
Workout specifics include 16 resistance levels, 10 total programs (including two custom and two heart-rate programs), and a 20-inch stride length. Perhaps the handiest feature from a user perspective, however, is the easy-to-use electronic console, which integrates a blue backlit LCD display, a cooling fan, and a water bottle holder. The E55, which offers a maximum weight capacity of 350 pounds, carries the following warranties: lifetime on the frame, five years on all parts and electronics, and two years on the labor.

Ironman Achiever Elliptical Trainer Review

Ironman Achiever Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased my ironman Adventure eliptical at a good price from [...]. Delivery and construction of the unit went smooth. However, when I went to testing it out, I quickly encountered a problem. Part of initializing this eliptical to work requires entering the year, month, day, and time. This is supposed to be done once, and the data is supposed to be maintained until the unit is unplugged. However, I would enter the data, and a few minutes later (without unplugging the unit) it would ask me to AGAIN enter the year, month, day and time. The data was not being stored. This data, along with the room temperature and some other things, are supposed to be displayed when the unit is in sleep mode, which is entered when the unit is unused for 5 minutes. However, my unit does not display anything in sleep mode, only a blank screen. I called Keys fitness (the manufacturer of ironman) help line. I was told (after some checking) that I apparently had one of the latest Adventure Elipticals. The older ones worked as stated in the owners manual. However, a screw-up was made during a software update such that the neweat Adventure Elipticals no longer works as stated in the owners manual. Rather than correct the problem, by updating the Software again to fix the bug they themselves introduced, I was told that they planned to issue a new owners manual stating that the way the machine works with the buggy software is now the "normal" operating mode. I see on some other web sites a new ironman elliptical called the Achiever. This looks exactly like the Adventure, with similar specs, but I think that it has the correct software mine should have. It's been about a month now and I'm still waiting for the new owners manual with the proper description of how my unit should work, including which features I've lost because of their error. I am totally disappointed in the way a large company like this treats quality issues with their products. My advice is if your considering an Ironman product or any other product by Keys Fitness Co, you particularly need to practice "buyer beware".
Other than the above issue, the unit is quite solid and I have no problems with using it to exercise and do get a good workout. The unit is quiet but not silent. I too (like another reviewer) get a click on the right side which is most noticable when working out fast with no magnetic resistance.
Update: (7/28/09)
To their credit, Keys fitness did eventually make the problems I described above right. I think it helped to keep calling them. The problems with the console not retaining data turned out to be a defective console. They never did send me the "revised" instruction manual. After I called several times to inquire about the manual, they had me send in the original console and sent me a new one, which worked. I was still bugged by the clicking noise on the right side though. I kept calling and eventually got a tech who could hear the noise as I exercised with him on the speaker phone. He had a professional service tech in our area come out and go through everything. Part of the problem was that I did not tighten some bolts enough during installation. Another problem was that one side of the unit did not have any grease and needed greasing. Ever since then the unit works liked I expected it to originally.

This thing is hard core! I have it on resistance level 1 and it's so hard to petal! It's such a great work out though. Great fan, and cycles through calories and carbs burned, time and distance. The wheels on the front add resistance, and it's easy to ass incline. Very contactable, and small, This thing is great for the price! :) I love it, great little elliptical with lots of resistance. This product is a black hole. I wish I would have taken the recommendation to get something else. I thought the first time this product broke down within a week that it was just a fluke, so I had it replaced with another. It costs waaaay too much and takes up too much space to waste this much time and energy on. My recommendation-look at reviews and buy a machine that works.

So I purchased this particular elliptical machine knowing that since it was a lot cheaper that it wouldn't be all the great. When it came in the mail it was missing the rod so I wasn't able to even use it right away. 5 phone calls later I finally get the piece I needed. The new pieces screws were stripped so I could barely tighten it. Now I know that every elliptical probably won't have that problem but It was a huge hassle and I wasn't able to use it for a month while trying to get it all figured out. But what it all comes down too is a poorly made machine. The computer on mine doesnt work(Not the biggest deal). I'm 5 10 and I don't think i would be able to use this if i was any taller. I really wanted this other elliptical that had gotten really good reviews but it was sold out and discontinued. All in all I suppose it kind of works but YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED! If you have the time and money to get something better I suggest you go that route. I wish I would have believed the first review I read. Its cheap because its made cheap...plain and simple.

Picked up one of these and within 4 weeks the belt started slipping off the wheel from time to time. They promised a replacement part and told me it was OK to keep using it. A week later the bolt for the right pedal just snapped, rendering it useless until repaired. I called and they promised yet another replacement part. SIX WEEKS after the first break I still hadn't received any parts so I just purchased a replacement of a different brand. When I went to move the unit by tilting it up on the wheels for that purpose, the frame snapped! So the unit is 12 weeks old, seen 4 weeks of use and has broken 3 times! They offered to replace it but I already did that. I can't even find it in me to curse a friend by giving them this clunker. I told them to just keep the replacement. Stay Away!
On the positive side I loved the iFit feature when the machine was working. If you can find a decent machine that has this feature, check it out. Nordictrack also has iFit BTW. Still, iFit's pretty useless if the machine itself doesn't work so one star.

Captiva - Elliptical Trainer Machine (cardio core training series)

I've had it for 3 months. Works well, very quiet, very smooth. I am glad I bought the Captiva ( not the Sanibel). worth the extra $500 because of the stride adjuster and incline adjustment feature. having that is a must with this machine. the LCD is only adequate, not very fancy. That is my only complaint but it's not enough to drop down from 5 stars. I paid $1999 for it. That was a big factor. My first choices were ellipicals that cost roughly $3800 which were out of my price range (Landice).

Kettler HKS EXT7 Elliptical Cross Trainer Review

Kettler HKS EXT7 Elliptical Cross Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's not a gym quality machine, however for the price, it's great! I'm sure if you got the
Kettler models that were five or six thousand dollars you would have more of a gym quality machine.
This machine is smooth and quiet. I have used it and a 250 lb. man has used it, both with the same
smooth quiet operation.
The cons would be that I was missing a couple of minor parts (as I was with a Kettler rower I got, so
it must be typical of this company). And a couple of pieces loosened after initially putting it together.
This may have been my fault, but I tightened it the same as I did initially and it seems to be fine now.In any machine, I highly recommend this type of build. My brother has one of the ellipticals that has the
runners in the back and has had a horrific time with them "jumping" the tracks.

Sole E25 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED) Review

Sole E25 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model, DISCONTINUED)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nearly four months ago, I bought one of these. I still don't have a working elliptical.
Here's the problem with this elliptical: if it doesn't work, forget your expectations from getting your computer or TV fixed: you can't send a 300 pound elliptical in for repair. Nor does Sole have a dedicated staff of repair technicians; they contract to companies who do parts replacement on many different brands and models of fitness equipment. Your repairman may have never seen your particular model before, and won't necessarily know its nuances as a qualified sustaining engineer would.
Worse, the actual diagnosis has to be done remotely by phone. Then they'll ship parts to you by ground. And only after you finally receive the parts can you schedule the repair visit -- the whole process takes weeks per repair. The repairman isn't paid to do anything other than swapping the parts, so you're technically SOL -- no pun intended -- if the technician wasn't able to successfully guess the right problem from a single phone call.
Imagine trying to get your car repaired this way!
That's why, nearly four months later, hours of my time, and two repair visits, I am still stuck with a non-working elliptical, and there's no end in sight. On the plus side, the repair contact at Sole has been really kind and great to work with (despite things being set up to be very hard for him to actually solve my problems.)
But I have to admit if I knew it would be this much trouble, I would have paid the extra bucks for a Precor. I can't recommend this product in good faith.

Enjoy an efficient full-body workout without heading to the gym with the Sole E25 elliptical trainer. Boasting a heavy 23-pound flywheel, a high gear ratio not found on most comparable models, and a pair of upper body handles, the E25 delivers an extremely smooth workout with plenty of top-end resistance. And thanks to the stationary handle bars with built-in pulse sensors, it's a breeze to monitor your heart rate as you exercise (a chest strap is also included for highly accurate wireless monitoring).
Workout specifics include 16 resistance levels, seven total programs, and a 20-inch stride length. Perhaps the handiest feature from a user perspective, however, is the easy-to-use electronic console, which integrates a blue backlit LCD display, a cooling fan, and a water bottle holder. The E25, which offers a maximum weight capacity of 325 pounds, carries the following warranties: lifetime on the frame, three years on all parts and electronics, and one year on the labor.

About Sole Sole brings over twenty years of treadmill and fitness product design and manufacturing to the table in their line of innovative equipment designed for fitness-conscious people. The company's treadmill line is simple in design, with an emphasis on quality and warranty all at a great price. Sole's easy-to-use treadmills offer a great value and feature a convenient, space-saving portable design. The treadmills have a very stable base with four wheels for ease of movement, folding decks to conserve space, and a 30-year motor and lifetime deck and frame warranty. Sole is always looking for ways to make their equipment better, more efficient, with higher quality at a great price.

Stamina Avari GX 8 Cross Trainer Elliptical Review

Stamina Avari GX 8 Cross Trainer Elliptical
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not saying this is the best elliptical on the market, but for the money it simply cannot be beat. Assembly was straightforward, it's relatively low profile, and it feels very sturdy. I'm very happy with the display and the many different programs, some of which incorporate pushing and pulling the bars, pedaling backwards, and changing speed.
I only have a couple of complaints, but none that would affect my rating. The first is that the machine started making weird noises within a few days of use, namely a low thumping in the rear, and there's some friction in the sliders. I thought it would get worse, as has been the case with other fitness equipment I've owned that has moving parts, but it's been a few weeks now and there's been no change. The noise definitely does not interfere with anything, including watching television at normal volume while working out.
My second complaint is more of a worry, since the warranty on this product is not as good as other brands offer. I considered this when making my purchase, and decided that it wasn't worth paying at least twice as much for an elliptical with a better replacement policy. As long as I get a year's use out of this machine, it'll already have been a more cost effective option than a gym membership; due to joint problems, I'm only able to use the elliptical and recumbent for cardio, and the elliptical offers the better workout.
The tray below the monitor is perfect for up to two bottles (or one bottle and a TV remote), music device or e-reader, and even a magazine. Although unintended, the smaller handles allow you to read a thicker book as they hold back the pages without making it too difficult to turn them. In short, if you spend any part of your day watching television, listening to music, or reading, you have no excuse not to use the elliptical on a daily basis.

Endurance E4 Ellipitcal Trainer Review

I have been using this elliptical for about 6-7 months, 4 times a week for 20 minutes. Early on it started squeaking, so I called Body Solid and he said to spray some silicone on the parts I thought were making the noise. Being a mechanic for a living, working on similar equipment for a rehab healthcare facility, I knew by the sound of it, that wouldn't quiet the noise. I applied some synthetic motorcycle chain lube to all the pivots that had brass bushings and that took care of the problem.
Now what started out as a howling noise, turns out to be the bearing on the main 15lb wheel. In a short time the bearing came apart and it is now down for the count. I will be contacting Body Solid and see how the "Lifetime" warranty works, and do a follow up.
In looking back, I wish I would have spent more money to get a better quality product.
UPDATE--- I made a call to Body Solid and explained the problem on a Monday. The technician was very receptive and friendly, and I had the part on Friday, no charge. Great service!! Even though it was still under labor and parts warranty, I installed the part.

Precor AMT100i Experience Series Adaptive Motion Trainer Review

Precor AMT100i Experience Series Adaptive Motion Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took the plunge and bought this trainer for my home gym. I have tried numerous machines and found that most ellipticals have a few drawbacks. They are great for reducing impact, compared to a treadmill, but usually constrain movement to a fixed motion. Other than being able to vary the stride length a couple of inches on a few models, they all have exactly the same motion, over and over. It was difficult to find one that fit my gait, and at the same time be suitable for my wife who is only 5 feet tall. Actually impossible would be a better description.
This machine is unique, and should be in its own class of truly variable elliptical training. The stride can be ANYTHING you make it; from stepping to full running gait to a pedaling stride. It even allows a backward pedal stride if you want to really mix up the routine. The machine doesn't control the gait. YOU do, and you can vary it any time without touching any electronic controls. You'll need to try it to really understand.
We have over 20 machines in the home gym including a nice treadmill and stationary bike, but we just about need a sign up sheet for using the AMT in my house! We all like this machine. The price was steep, but this machine will get a lot of use, and the value we get from improved fitness is priceless. A cheaper machine that is more difficult to use was an option, but in the long run a more expensive machine that will actually get used is the better option.
The quality of the design and fabrication of the machine is excellent, and it should last for many, many years with only my family using it.
Very highly recommended!
A follow up after one full year of use: Every member of my family uses this elliptical trainer, so it has seen about 15-20 hours/week of use. It has been 100% reliable, and other than occasional cleaning has needed no maintenance. We remain completely satisfied with this elliptical trainer, and it remains our best investment in cardio training. The variable stride/gait of this machine allows virtually any user to get the most from this machine, and will allow you to work around soreness if necessary.

Precor EFX 5.23 Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer

I bought this elliptical 3 years ago for $4500, so I was amazed to learn today that it is only $2999 on Amazon. I have worked out on several machines and if your life is crazy like mine and you need maximum burn in the least amount of time, then this is it. My average calorie burn is 400 in 30 minutes at resistance level 11 and incline level 14, whereas on my Precor Treadmill, I only achieve half of that for about 210 calories. Gives excellent lower body and core muscle tone, and leaves your hands free to read an article, switch channels on the TV remote, drink a power shake, etc. The calories burned on the Precor 5.23 rival my weightlifting workouts that burn 1,000 calories per hour, and that's intense!!
