Its got sealed Ball Bearings at all the pivot points and a very heavy counter weight (smooth operation) when nothing anywhere's near this price can say the same. Did a lot of research, and if you buy an elliptical, and plan to use it, if it doesn't have ball bearings it'll be JUNK in a year.
Couldn't find anything under $1500 with ball bearings except for this one. Got mo $ ?, above $1500 lots of other good ones around.

This product is a black hole. I wish I would have taken the recommendation to get something else. I thought the first time this product broke down within a week that it was just a fluke, so I had it replaced with another. It costs waaaay too much and takes up too much space to waste this much time and energy on. My recommendation-look at reviews and buy a machine that works.

Awesome piece, first saw it in our companies workout gym and loved it. Had to get one for the home so my wife and older kids could use it. My wife uses it everyday while she watches her tv programs. Smooth feel, you just seem to glide on this elliptical. The programs can be pretty tough though so choose them wisely. Got a great price too from amazon.

About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

I purchased a new "scratch and dent" sample of this machine from a local used sports gear place. They specialize in scratch and dent sales from distributors etc., and I got a fantastic deal on this model at $399. For that price, it's fantastic. :) However, if I'm going off of the retail price or the Amazon price, I'm going to be a little more picky.
Pros: Fairly heavy flywheel (good for smooth operation), very sturdy construction, good "geometry" (pedals do not "tilt" a lot during their travel like some designs), wide range of magnetic resistance, and very smooth motion
Cons: 18 inch stride (though this is a pro for me due to my short legs), ineffective built-in fan, poor built-in speakers (an iPod can't drive them to anything approaching a realistic volume), fixed incline (not even manually adjustable)
Bottom line, I really don't know if I'd pay full price for this machine, but for what I paid, I think it's a great machine

Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer Review

I am a soldier who has recently returned from deployment. While I was deployed I injured both knees and am unalbe to run due to the impact. I had tried ellipticals while I was deployed and was quite impressed with the work out I got. When I returned I went out and started searching for one of my own. My goal was to keep it under $1000. I tried many different brands and discovered that not all ellipticals are created equal. Many of them are cheaply made and shake side to side or make alot of noise. The stride is very important. I am 6 foot tall and the 16 inch stride on some of them just didnt cut it. I ended up buying a Proform 160 from the Proform website since it had an 18 inch stride and seemed to be sturdy, however, after discovering how little they care about customer service, I cancelled my order. I ended up buying an Image 9.5 from Walmart. I used it for about 3 weeks and came to the conclusion that the foot pedals were spaced too far apart and it put pressure on my knees and made my hips hurt. After thinking about it for a minute it made sense to me, who runs with thier feet that far apart anyway. My feet almost land in a straight line when I run. So I set out to find one with closer pedals. Overall I tried almost 2 dozen different machines and finally found the Schwinn 430 at a fitness store. I tried the 418 and 438 also, but the 430 seemed to be the most comfortable to me. The 438 and some of the other brands seem to have a high arch on the upstroke. The 430 was very smooth and ultra quiet. It is very well made and should last for many years. Amazon had the best deal on it and had it to me in about 8 days. It is a very comfortable machine. After all of this I would say to anyone wanting to buy an elliptical, try alot of them, I tried all the ones at Sears, Oshmans, Academy and Fitness in motion. Make sure the stride length, pedal angle and pedal spacing are comfortable for you, after all, if its not comfortable you wont want to use it. The only thing I think could be improved on the Schwinn 430 is a backlit display. Luckily I work out with the lights on so its not a problem, haha. I tried many machines that were between $2-3000 and this one was still more comfortable to me. It is a heavy machine, so get help carrying it in, but you will be glad its heavy when you ride it. It is some assembly required, but it has fairly clear instructions, so there shouldnt be a problem with assembly. Happy Hunting!

I've had this unit since Jan 06. It has surpassed my expectations on almost every level.
It's heavy...you'll need help offloading from the truck and getting it into your home.
It's easy to assemble, once you realize there is no parts bag because all the connectors are in their respective slots and holes.
It's smooth as silk, barely audible when cranking at 110+ RPM's.
The computer readout is almost too much for me, as all I need to know is the workout level, elapsed time and RPM's. I've never even tried the pulse gizmo.
At 6' 1" the long stride (21") was the main reason I bought this unit, and it does not dissappoint. You can move your foot position fore and aft to highlight leg muscle groups or concentrate on the upper body.
This unit is more solidly built than the health club's machine. It doesn't rock or otherwise feel unstable in the slightest. It's a well thought-out, well executed design.
I started my excersize program from scratch, going for two days on and one day off. In two+ months I can almost do my entire 20 minute routine at level 3.
This beast should last me at least 15 years. I'll try to be at level 5 by then.

This machine will give you a great workout with the electronically adjustable incline, the arms and the ability to stride forward and in reverse. However my wife and I used it every day for ten months, often two hours between us per day, and as time went on it became noisier and noisier, with the console shaking too much to allow for reading and squeaking too loud to listen to music or watch television. The bolts in the post were tightened as much as possible but still the post and the console would shake. Obviously our machine had a defective frame. Whether this was simply a manufacturing defect in our machine or a design defect is an unknown. Nonetheless, Vision to its credit has a very responsive customer service department, worked with us to try to resolve the problem and when that was impossible agreed to take the machine back and shipped us the S7200 HRT suspension elliptical for the difference in price between the two.
Vision's Suspension elliptical is the best I have ever used, and that includes the two vision ellipticals I owned in the past and those top of the line Life Fitness and Precors I have used at health clubs. It is smooth, quiet, allows for an extended stride, a very well designed adjustable incline and is quite simply awesome. One feature we like in the Vision products is the "Sprint 8", which is a twenty minute high intensity interval program (a HIIT program), which I find is really making a difference for both weight control and increasing my fitness level. Having just used a commercial Precor while staying in an Embassy Suites, I find the visions "perfect stride" technology truly is superior to Precor. With the Vision, the articulating footpads keep my feet in a comfortable position throughout the rotation of the elliptical path. On the Precor, they rolled my feet up and down and forced the feet up when the incline was raised to higher levels. Maybe this is something regular Precor users get used to, but I didn't like the movement. The Suspension elliptical is expensive, at $4000 or so with delivery and setup, although you can get it for less today on sale, but worth the money for a long term investment in one's own health.
Edit (April 2, 2010): Through using this machine only, alternating between hour long interval training sessions, and twenty minute high intensity interval training sessions - every third day, six - seven days per week, I am now down to my college weight with virtually no dieting required . . other than avoiding excess sugar. Its been well worth the effort given how well I physically feel at the old age of fifty-five.

Horizon Fitness EX-59 Elliptical Trainer Review

Horizon Fitness EX-59 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

This is totally worth buying! The quality is very good and it's easy to put together. I put it together mostly by myself and I'm a 21yr old female with average strength and it wasn't too hard. I did have trouble tightening a couple of bolts, but that was the hardest part, and mostly just because of the position of the bolt. Most of the pieces are together already, the pieces that need greasing were already greased. It comes with the tools you need to put it together, and the hardware is separated into what you need for each step, so there's no digging around looking for the right part.
As far as the elliptical itself, it's awesome.
*It has an audio input jack and comes with a cord for it, and you can either listen to music on its speakers or plug your headphones into the elliptical itself.
*There's a spot were you can set your ipod or mp3 player and it also has a little book stand at the bottom of the console display.
*There's a water bottle holder and it has two smaller side holders where you can set other things like a cell phone or something, which is nice.
*It has a power cord, it doesn't take batteries like some do.
*It has a fan that has 3 different settings and an option for changing what you're looking at on the screen, calories burned or distance and time or heart rate. It has a spot that tells you your rate in MPH and also your resistance setting.
*It measures the distance in miles and starts at 0.00 goes up by .01 miles at a time.
*It has some preset programs, but I haven't used them, I've just done it as manual.
*It has 2 options for changing the resistance level: it has + and - buttons, but it also has numbers 1-10 on the sides so you can change resistance quickly.
*It has a really smooth motion, you don't feel like you're bouncing that much when you run on it and it's super quiet! It's not wobbly and feels really stable and sturdy. The foot pad is pretty big too, which is nice because you have room to find which spot is most comfortable.
The only thing I don't love about it is that when you start using it, it beeps pretty loudly. It also beeps when it's shutting off, and I think when you press the buttons. It's not a big problem, but it can get annoying when you're trying to be quiet.
I think that about sums it up, and if I come across any problems, I'll update this later.

I've had this product assembled and in use for about 2 weeks now, and so far I'm quite happy with it. It seems sturdy and it's comfortable to use. The assembly took about an hour and a half with two people--without a second person you'd be doing some juggling but it would be possible. If you have trouble with dexterity or hand strength, I would definitely recommend getting someone to help you put it together because some of the pre-installed bolts are very tight and a couple of the locations are a little tricky to get to. The assembly directions were fairly clear, and it includes the tools you'll need. I got a 7ft long mat for it to sit on, though you could probably get away with a 6ft mat. It runs smoothly and quietly. We'll see how it performs over time, but so far I'd say it was worth the price, and I intend to be using it on a daily basis.

This is one great machine. It is very smooth, very stable and extremely well built. It took me a little over two hours to assemble and the assembly directions are very clear and well labeled with one exception. In the assembly directions, it calls for six #B screws when it is obvious they meant #A screws because they were the only ones left in the assembly process. I was worried that I would not be able to assemble it without help but had no trouble assembling it myself. For the money, I don't believe you could get any better quality even in a more expensive machine. I have very bad knees but this workout actually helps them and gives me an excellent full body workout. I recommend the Schwinn A40 to anyone.

I ended up buying this at a local sports store and like the previous two reviewers was a bit wary to buy it because there were no reviews. I ended up finally buying it because of the reputation that Schwinn has with its other ellipticals and was not disappointed.
I had no difficulty putting it together by myself but it would be best to have two people. Thank you reviewer Toasty for informing me that the water bottle holder is not included. I'll stop searching my house for the damn thing now. I thought I lost it. The bolts, screws, and washers come on two cardboard sheets along with two wrenches and a hex/screw driver. You will have the screws left over for the water bottle holder. The programming was pretty straight forward until I got to the custom program level. I'm still not sure how I got past that screen.
The elliptical itself feels sturdy and well built. I am 300 pounds and it supports my weight without shaking or wobbling. The 18" stride and the handles feel comfortable for my 5'10" frame. I heard some complaints from the salesmen at the sports store that the handles were to far forward but I did not have that problem. The console is pretty basic but what was expected for the price.
Bottom line is if you are looking for a sub $600 elliptical that is well built, this is the one for you.

Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer Review

Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a lot of exercise equipment, and the Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer is a very good machine. Unlike some others I have tried, it has a very smooth action, is quiet, and is easy to use. It's also smaller than several other models I've tested, so it fits nicely in most rooms. Further, because it is lightweight and has two front wheels, it's easy to move.
The assembly instructions are not the best, but I've seen much worse. Regardless, it's pretty obvious where most of the parts go. It took me about one hour to assemble by myself, though it would be easier and quicker with two people.
Recently I moved the machine to a different room and one of the front wheel casings cracked. I don't know if this occurred because of a defect or because I went over a bump too quickly. I called the manufacturer (toll-free number) and received prompt and courteous service. When I bought the machine I registered it online, so my information was quickly found by the company representative. I described what happened and the representative was surprised because it was unusual for a wheel casing to break. Nevertheless, without any trouble he promised to ship me a replacement part free of charge (still under warranty). I called on a Friday afternoon and received the part on the next Tuesday. Changing the part (only one screw) was simple and took about two minutes. It's nice to know that there are still some companies that stand behind their products and provide good service to their customers.
