Reebok 1000 X Elliptical Review

I have had this elliptical for about a year. It is one of the best non commercial grade ellipticals i have been on. I like it far more than half of the machines at lifetime fitness. It has a good incline option. I would say that the heavier resistance is a bit much. only needs 15 at the max. the 20 is like riding brakes. I love the options to plug in my ipod and other mp3 players!
great buy for the price...btw...you can get them for about 900 tops!

Captiva - Elliptical Trainer Machine (cardio core training series) Review

Captiva - Elliptical Trainer Machine (cardio core training series)

I've had it for 3 months. Works well, very quiet, very smooth. I am glad I bought the Captiva ( not the Sanibel). worth the extra $500 because of the stride adjuster and incline adjustment feature. having that is a must with this machine. the LCD is only adequate, not very fancy. That is my only complaint but it's not enough to drop down from 5 stars. I paid $1999 for it. That was a big factor. My first choices were ellipicals that cost roughly $3800 which were out of my price range (Landice).

The Captiva Variable Motion Elliptical (VME) allows users to change the motion of their elliptical stride on the fly. Go from an 18" easy motion to a large 32" hurdling type motion or anywhere in between.  The Captiva is great for interval training and is perfect for every member of the family, regardless of their height, age or physical condition. The innovation does not stop there.  Yowza's patented counter-rotational Core motion targets the muscles of internal and external obliques, rectus abdominus and Serratus anterior like no other cardio machine.

Xterra FS220e 18-Inch Stride Elliptical Review

I purchased a new "scratch and dent" sample of this machine from a local used sports gear place. They specialize in scratch and dent sales from distributors etc., and I got a fantastic deal on this model at $399. For that price, it's fantastic. :) However, if I'm going off of the retail price or the Amazon price, I'm going to be a little more picky.
Pros: Fairly heavy flywheel (good for smooth operation), very sturdy construction, good "geometry" (pedals do not "tilt" a lot during their travel like some designs), wide range of magnetic resistance, and very smooth motion
Cons: 18 inch stride (though this is a pro for me due to my short legs), ineffective built-in fan, poor built-in speakers (an iPod can't drive them to anything approaching a realistic volume), fixed incline (not even manually adjustable)
Bottom line, I really don't know if I'd pay full price for this machine, but for what I paid, I think it's a great machine

Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model) Review

Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been researching home ellipticals for a while now. I was spoiled with the LifeFitness machines (20 inch stride) at the gym and I know many home ellipticals fall short - they feel shaky, flimsy, the stride is short... I had read great things about Sole machines and went to a local store to try them out.
They had the e95, e35, and e25 in new 2009 models as well as an old (2008) e55 being sold as a floor model. I had originally thought I wanted the e55 but the new e35 is actually better than the old e55 so that ruled out the floor model, even at a killer price.
I looked mainly at the e35 and the e95.
Both are very, very, very sturdy machines. I was amazed at how much they feel like the LifeStride - very solid and a nice, long stride. I am only 5'4 but anything less than 20" in stride length feels choppy to me - I don't know how anyone can stand most home machines!
If I really, really got going hard and fast, I could feel a slight difference in sturdiness between the two machines. I should point out I am between 140-150 pounds - the sales guys said if they were me, they'd go with the e35 but someone of a higher weight would notice the difference more than I did. The difference in sturdiness alone was really too slight to justify the difference in price, but since we could afford to go higher, I wondered if we should.
The other thing I debated, though, was the computer. For the most part you can do the exact same thing with both machines, but the computers are a little different. The e95 is flashy red LED and has a numeric keypad. The e35 is blue LCD and has arrow keys for input (ie it says "Input age" and it starts with, I think, 32 - you then have to toggle to the right age). It's a little annoying but something that will be annoying at the start of the workout and that's all. Again a case of we can afford to pay more and this would be nice, maybe we should.
Both machines have buttons on the handlebars for adjusting resistance and incline - VERY cool. Both machines allow you to adjust the foot pedals although the e95 has a knob you turn so you can adjust to any angle within the range whereas the e35 has a lever you pull out and then lift the pedals which have 2 or 3 notches in them that catch on the lever when you push it back in - like an exercise bike seat - so you may not get THE perfect adjustment.
So it seems like if you're willing to spend the cash the e95 is the way to go, right? Not so fast. There was one big drawback to it and one small drawback. The small was, I didn't care for the padded footbeds. They neither added nor detracted from the workout but I didn't see the need to pay extra and I worried about the padding breaking down over time. If you're wearing tennis shoes who needs padded footbeds? The biggest drawback was, the e95 has fat, molded handgrips. I found these felt chunky and sticky in my hands. Maybe if you are a 6' plus beefy guy with bigger hands, you would prefer this, but I really didn't like it and it would bother me the entire workout. The e35 has thinner, smoother handgrips, like I was used to at the gym. I did not want to pay extra for the e95 and hate those handgrips.
In the end I ordered the new 2009 e55 from Sole because it has all the features I like - a little sturdier than the e35, numeric keypad though screen is LED not LCD, smooth handgrips with buttons, killer warranty, fully adjustable and non-padded foot beds. I wish I could have tried this one in the store but I liked both the e35 and the e95 so much I am quite sure this was the right choice. These really are great machines but the handgrips on the e95 were a deal breaker for me.
If you have a Dick's near you - try this machine, you will be amazed. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the models - it all comes down to slight differences between them. (But of course as you go up in weight, they say the heavier flywheel does make a bigger difference)

Enjoy an efficient full-body workout without heading to the gym with the Sole E95 elliptical trainer. Boasting a heavy 30-pound flywheel, a high gear ratio not found on most comparable models, and a pair of upper body handles, the E95 delivers an extremely smooth workout with plenty of top-end resistance. Users will also appreciate the unique oversize and adjustable foot pedals, which were designed in collaboration with a leading physical therapist and sports enthusiast. The pedals are not only extra large, but also feature a 2-degree inward slope that reduces the ankle and knee stress that's common in other elliptical machines. The collaboration also produced a revolutionary foot pedal angle adjustment not found on any other elliptical. Taking into account that not everyone walks the same way, Sole engineers made the E95's pedals adjustable to fit the way you walk. This also reduces the likelihood of numb toes and sore Achilles tendons.
Workout specifics include 20 resistance levels, 10 total programs (including two custom and two heart-rate programs), and a 20-inch stride length. Perhaps the handiest feature from a user perspective, however, is the easy-to-use electronic console, which integrates a red/green display, a cooling fan, and a water bottle holder. Additional features include stationary handlebars with built-in pulse sensors for monitoring your heart rate; a heart rate chest strap for hands-free pulse monitoring; heavy-duty rails with smooth-riding wheels on the back; and a rear plastic shroud that adds additional stability for aggressive use. The E95, which offers a maximum weight capacity of 400 pounds, carries the following warranties: lifetime on the frame, five years on all parts and electronics, and two years on the labor.

About Sole Sole brings over twenty years of treadmill and fitness product design and manufacturing to the table in their line of innovative equipment designed for fitness-conscious people. The company's treadmill line is simple in design, with an emphasis on quality and warranty all at a great price. Sole's easy-to-use treadmills offer a great value and feature a convenient, space-saving portable design. The treadmills have a very stable base with four wheels for ease of movement, folding decks to conserve space, and a 30-year motor and lifetime deck and frame warranty. Sole is always looking for ways to make their equipment better, more efficient, with higher quality at a great price.
About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Well we just recently picked this up. So far I am loving it. It took about 2-3 hours to put together late night early morning so you could probably do it faster if you're of sound mind.
The machine itself seems to be very well put together to handle my current 260lb weight with ease.
I did a lot of online research before buying this one. It is the low end of the 4 available from Sole. Most reviews say to take this one for the money or to upgrade to the E95 if you can afford it.
The incline is now power on the E25. This is an update from the previous model and appreciated.
The display screen is quite basic but it does enough to keep you informed and working.
All in all, for what is a budget elliptical machine, I am very happy with the construction and the value I have received in this purchase.

Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer (2011 Model) Review

Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer (2011 Model)

I recently purchased the Sole E35 2011 model after spending a few weeks online researching between the Sole, Norditrack, Horizon, and other top models. I then went and tried a few machines out at some local shops, and my choice landed on the E35.
Reasons I chose the E35 over the E25 or E95, was mainly the heavier wheel and the longer unit was the perfect sweet spot. I also was buying this unit for my wife as well.
I have used many precor's and other top models at the gym for years.
I will update this review as time progresses, so here is the recently purchased review.
After two days...
Install, as many others has stated the box unit is extremely heavy and large, very difficult to carry. We were keeping it on a ground level entrance so just two people was enough. It took 2 people about 2 hours to put the machine together. The directions are very good and its virtually impossible to put any part of it together wrong.
After first use, the machine is whisper quiet, and very smooth. I did a 30 minute workout on lowest incline and it was just exactly as you would expect from the machines at the gym. I'm a bigger guy (6'1 270) and it did not shake at all. I tested the MP3/speakers feature and it worked perfectly. The wireless heartrate chest monitor works flawlessly as well and was rather nice since my gym only has the handles.
So far I'm very pleased with my purchase.
I will update this review in a month.

Precor EFX 5.31 Premium Series Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer Review

Precor EFX 5.31 Premium Series Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this about the middle of December 2009, so I've had it over three months now. I use this thing an hour a day, at least five days a week (can't run anymore because my knees won't take it). So this isn't a first impression kind of review.
While there are many things to recommend Precor for, this model has some problems that you should be aware of if you're thinking about buying one.
Pros:
-- overall excellent quality materials and build
-- machine motion is top notch, very smooth, no rough or jerky places within the range of travel -- which is important if you're actually going to spend even half an hour at stretch on it
-- excellent customer service and technical support from Precor, they left me with the definite impression that they care about their customers (and for the price they should)
Cons:
-- this unit has a couple of significant design flaws, see belowAmazon shipped the machine to my house with no problem, no complaints there. It came on a semi-tractor trailer, so be aware because they'll have to be able to get in front of your house with a truck that big. It's tail gate delivery. I had a couple of carts that the truck driver helped me set it on, and I rolled it into my garage. It's heavy, so one person it's going to pick it up and carry it around.
I'm a product design engineer, so I know something about what goes into the design and fabrication of this kind of product. I was also a technician for five years before I went to college, so I'm pretty handy. But I'm also busy, so I called Precor to get someone to assemble it. They gave me the name of their local rep, who I called -- and they called me back once, promised to show up in a week, but didn't. They also refused to answer my calls after that.
I called Precor twice more, who tried to contact the field rep. Nothing, no response from them. Precor apologized, but by now a month had gone by so I said I'd assemble it myself. They gave me their tech support number, which I did end up calling just to make sure I was doing everything right.
Note: getting a hold of people at Precor was easy, and I felt like they really went out of their way to help me. Their customer service and tech support get 5+ stars. I subtracted zero stars for the field rep not showing up. Hey, things like this can happen sometimes when you've got subcontractors.
Assembly was straight forward, no problem if you can use a wrench and a screw driver. There was one gummed up thread in one of the welded on nut plates, but I ran a tap through it and it was fine. At the end of assembly I was impressed, they really did use high quality materials and the component build quality is impressive. One gummed up thread is no big deal to me, it's very easy to happen and easy enough to fix
.
So then I started using it. I've used Precor ellipticals in gyms for years and always been impressed with them. For the money I spent I was *really* expecting something pretty close to the same kind of controls and kinematics. Why else would anybody spend the money on a Precor elliptical? But this unit is quite different from what you find in gyms, in two ways:
1) The control panel. Unlike the commercial grade machines, you cannot get on this thing, set the resistance where you want, and just go. Instead you HAVE to push a sequence of buttons when you first get on. It reminds me of certain well known computer operating systems, which insist on getting in your way as you work. Because they know better than you do, how you should live your life.
They've got all the buttons already built into the control panel. It would have been a piece of cake to make it work just like a commercial machine, where default is "step onto machine, set resistance where you want, and just go for as long as you want". If somebody wants to use the programs they can just push one of those buttons and start the program.
Instead, if you just want to set the resistance and go for 45 to 60 minutes -- without the stinking thing stopping in the middle of your workout -- you've got to push about half a dozen buttons. I spent time with their tech support making sure it's not just me, not knowing how the thing works. This IS how the EFX 5.31 works.
Dumb, unnecessarily complicated user control panel: minus one star. Once you know the button sequences you can live with it. Which is good because by the time you've bought it, you'll have to. But for this much money it really shouldn't be like this.2) There was still room for a good rating until I learned about the kinematics of this elliptical. I've used probably every Precor model that's been in gyms (like Ballys) for the last ten years. There's never been one that I couldn't get on, and just stand up straight on while using it, without need to lean on the handle bars (and I go pretty fast, usually 45 to 60 minute work outs). The foot pedals and overall motion are such that it's comfortable to stand upright on their commercial machines. Note: I always use ellipticals with the ramp all the way at the bottom, lowest angle.
Precor has set up the kinematics of this machine quite different. I absolutely cannot stand up straight while using this machine, as it comes out of the box. It forces me to lean over on the hand rails. Which I may not mind when I'm 90 years old. I found this quite annoying. The kinematics of the EFX 5.31 are quite different from their commercial machines.
I'm six feet tall, and my wife is five feet tall. She can stand up straight while using this machine just fine. I've since had friends in to try it, and it seems that people on the shorter side can use it fine. But taller people generally have the same problem with it that I do, and find that they have to lean forward and grab onto the handle bars. So, being an engineer (and having spent lots of money on it), I started looking into why. We went and tried a couple of commercial Precors in gyms and sure enough, my wife and I both can use them standing up with no problems. I did some measuring and I'd estimate that the foot pedals on my machine at home (the EFX 5.31) need to be (about) 3 inches further back than they are, and also the foot pedal angle on the 5.31 is different. Whether the foot pedal angles would be right if located 3 inches back I'm not sure.
But I found from playing with my home machine, that if I let my feet hang off the back of the pedals about 3 inches (meaning, I'm standing on top of the backs of the pedals), then I can stand up on it without leaning over, and use it just like the commercial Precors. At this, the backs of my feet almost touch the rear housing on the unit. But "almost" I can live with.
Which means that to use my home unit comfortably, I needed to build some wedges to go inside the foot pedals. I got some modeling clay, laid plastic sheet inside the pedals, and made a pattern with the clay (note, right and left foot pedals are identical). Then got some plaster of paris and made a mold from the clay patterns. Then got some epoxy from a hobby store and cast that in the mold, and made myself a couple of custom foot pedal inserts.
At this, I can now use my EFX 5.31 just like the commercial models they put in the gyms. It's now a very smooth, very stable, very nice machine to work out on. But it took some effort to get there.
Messed up kinematics on the EFX 5.31 elliptical machine: minus 2 stars. I still cannot believe they did this........???? Hello, Precor? What did you think it was, that makes people willing to spend the money you charge for elliptical machines?
I'm a product design engineer so maybe I'm being harsh here. But I cannot forgive this basic design flaw in the EFX 5.31. Were they trying to save pennies by making this thing just a little shorter? I know what extruded aluminum costs -- they really didn't save enough pennies to make it worth screwing up the excellent kinematics of their commercial machines. This machine looks like it's kinematics and mechanics are about the same as their commercial models, but it's not (yet they charge big money for it anyway). Don't buy any elliptical machine that you haven't used for about half an hour continuously, to make sure it's going to be comfortable for you. I looked at many before I bought this one, and there's lots of machines out there with horrible kinematics. Fortunately I was able to fix this one so I can use it.

Spirit Esprit EL-355 20-Inch Stride Elliptical Review

Spirit Esprit EL-355 20-Inch Stride Elliptical

I was looking for an elliptical machine for my home because I was tired of paying for a gym membership where all I did was use the gym's elliptical machines. I did a lot of research on brand, stride length, front vs. rear drive, etc...and settled on this model and I have not been disappointed. While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some similarly priced models from more known brands, it makes up for that in quality construction and smooth operation.
My research indicated that front drive models will have a smoother motion and that I needed a stride length of at least 18". At 20", this machine provides the necessary range of motion to optimize my workout.
With respect to assembly, you'll definitely need a second person to help you carry the box to the location you plan to use the machine. The box is massive and weighs approx. 175 lbs. That being said, I assembled it myself in about an hour and a half. All the parts fit properly and the instructions were very clear.
If I can make suggestion to anyone looking to buy an elliptical machine for their home it's to do your research. There are a few great websites that can help you make your own decision and were what ultimately led me to this machine at the pricepoint: [...] and [...].

LifeCore CD400 C-Drive Center Drive Elliptical Trainer Review

I searched for ever and came across the latest Consumer Report magazine and discovered the Lifecore Fitness CD-400 elliptical. I took the plunge and purchased this machine. The CD-400 is ultra compact and fits perfect in my space. This elliptical is built like a tank. It does not move around when I'm at full speed. There is not a up and down motion like most elliptical's. The center drive concept is to keep your body centered (read lifecore brochure). Other elliptical's move your body forward and it's harder on your knees. If your looking for high quality and compact look no further. I have purchased other items from Lifecore and their customer service is also awesome. They actually still answer the phone whern you call them. Wish other companies would take note

Get fit without toiling at the gym several times a week with the LifeCore CD400 C-drive elliptical trainer. Ellipticals in general support a terrific workout by working both your upper and lower body without putting significant stress on weight-bearing joints. The CD400 center-drive elliptical takes it a step further, however, by positioning your body perfectly upright throughout its motion. This creates a more comfortable and efficient workout, and ultimately produces better results over time. The trainer also offers a host of preset programs, giving you plenty of workout options whether you're a beginner just getting started or an experienced user hoping for a tougher challenge. The programs include manual, random, hill, glute blaster, interval, interval mountain, speed interval, target heart rate, heart rate cardio, heart rate fat burn, heart rate hill, and heart rate interval. And thanks to the trainer's close 2-inch pedal spacing and 21-inch stride length, each workout feels natural and enjoyable regardless of your fitness level.
To keep you motivated during your workout, the CD400 includes a large dot matrix LED display that tracks your time, speed, distance, calories, and more, along with a scrolling alphanumeric message center. Best of all for users with small homes or apartments, the CD400 measures only 42 inches wide, so you don't need to dedicate an entire room to storing the trainer. Other features include a friction-free magnetic resistance system, 20 resistance levels, a low 8-inch step-up height, front transport wheels, oversized cushioned footpads, center-grip heart rate sensors, a convenient built-in reading rack, and two user profiles.

It took a couple of weeks to arrive, but I love it! I use it about every other day. You can make it as easy or as difficult a workout as you wish. It is great to be able to go upstairs and workout and not have to drive to the gym. The assembly was not difficult, but the pieces are very heavy to carry to the second floor. The machine is easy to program, has a variety of levels, and it is a great overall workout!

Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model) Review

Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer (2009-2010 Model)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The 2009 Sole E35 is an excellent buy for $1,299. I recently purchased one. Below are some considerations to take into account.
First, Be ready to take about half a day to move the box and assemble the machine -- the box is about 290lbs (gross weight) and feels all of 300lbs. Worse yet, if you take the machine out piece by piece so that it's lighter (say, if you want to move the machine up a flight of stairs) you will be very unhappily surprised to find that the fly wheel is bolted to some articulated arms, which are EXTREMELY hard to finagle around and to move when the machine is out of the box.
(**UPDATED INFO ON TAKING THE MACHINE APART 9/21/2010: I recently moved and found that the articulated arms can actually be unfastened from the fly wheel, and the machine can be disassembled into four main parts: the fly-wheel, two individual arms with foot pieces, and the rails. I had to do this when I moved, and while the machine still operates as it did before being disassembled, I would NOT recommend taking the arms off the fly-wheel unless you really know what you are doing and have exactly the right tools. And, even then, the fly-wheel part by itself weighs probably close to two hundred pounds. So, if you are dead-set on not paying the in-home installation fee, are good with tools and know what you are doing in that regard, I can attest that the machine can be disassembled into four main sections that are MUCH easier to move by themselves if you need to go up a flight of stairs or move the machine very far. Again, the machine comes with the arms attached to the fly-wheel, so I highly doubt that the manufacturer ever intended them to be detached by the user-owner, so this is definitely an at-your-own-risk solution, and attempting it comes with the chance that you could screw up your machine.)
I cannot stress this enough: IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR E35 SET UP IN THE SECOND OR THIRD FLOOR OF YOUR HOUSE JUST PAY THE EXTRA $99 FOR THE DELIVERY COMPANY TO DO IT. Unless you have (not exaggerating) 3 or 4 healthy, strong guys to move this box, forget about getting it upstairs if it's just you and one other person. I really wish I had just paid the extra money for the shipping company to move it up the stairs of my house.
Once you get the box situated where you want to set up the machine, however, you're good to go. The assembly instructions are VERY well written and very clear. There are a lot of parts and steps, but none of them are very complicated or require a lot of dexterity or "handyman" knowledge. Also, if you need any help, SOLE's customer support is great.
Once I got the machine put together, there was no comparison -- I tried out a few different Ellipticals in the $800 - $1,500 range, and the E35, with its power incline (the power incline works great), 25lb flywheel, 350lb maximum weight capacity, and silky-smooth movement are far and away more than you're going to get with any other machine in this price range. While the display is fairly simple, it comes with some nice extras like a heart-rate monitor that hooks up to the display (this all comes with the machine) so that you don't have to hold on to the heart-rate sensors throughout your workout.
I used Precor machines for years at a big gym. If you're not familiar with them, they're easily the most expensive Ellipticals out there and cost well over $3,500 for their mid-grade model. The Sole E35 isn't a Precor 5 series, but it has a LOT of the features that the Precor does. I would say it's 80% or 90% as good as a Precor, where the only detracting factor for the Sole is that it's not as stable as the tank-sized Precor (the Precor machine is probably 350+lbs) and doesn't have as refined features as the Precor, much like the difference between a really nice, fully loaded Cadillac and a Rolls Royce -- you can tell a difference, but either way, you're very happy with what you've got.
Finally, I'll share what I did as far as working out a deal. If you find a comparable machine or a licensed dealer on E-Bay selling Sole's ellipticals, Sole's customer service people will match prices if you are diligent. In my personal case, I found a 2008 E35 on Ebay being sold by a Sole dealer for $999 shipped, so I called Sole and asked if they would match the price, and they said they would. I paid them the $999, and lucky for me, when the machine came, I saw "NEW 2009 MODEL" on the box, and it was obviously really cool. So through doing some research and spending time before I made the purchase figuring out what I could work out with Sole, I got it for 30% less than the Amazon.com price. Just keep this in mind -- the elliptical / work out equipment machine market is VERY competitive and the companies will often bend over backwards to get your business.
Very last, I just want to mention that the 2 year in-home service / 5 year parts warranty is better than any comparable machine, and actually better than the warranty on some of Precor's models. So, all in all, I would highly recommend the 2009 Sole E35.
UPDATE AFTER ONE MONTH: Still solid as a rock, with just a few clinks here and there while in full motion on the machine. Heart monitor works great, power incline still functioning perfectly. No problems to report.
UPDATE AFTER THREE MONTHS: Still going very strong. Haven't had to call customer support about anything. I have experienced a little bit of "knocking" that suggests a bolt might be loose somewhere, but I think this is a common issue that comes up. When I put the machine together I realized that I had made a mistake tightening the bolts that connect the fly wheel arms with the handlebars. I corrected the mistake, but I think I might have overlooked something, so I'm guessing that the "knocking" is probably my fault. I'll fix it sometime and then update -- not really a big deal or that annoying.
Otherwise, I'm really starting to appreciate the refined features of the machine like the heart rate monitor and the power incline. While these things were off my radar when I was looking for a machine, I now appreciate them after using the machine 5 or 6 days a week. Sole really designed these features well, and they work just like they're supposed to. I'm still very satisfied and I think the E35 is a great piece of home equipment.
UPDATE AFTER FIVE MONTHS: Still no complaints. Holding up nicely. I've lost 20+ pounds and this has been a great, really convenient way to work out in the morning before heading to work. I tightened some of the bolts in the joints and now it works with minimal squeaks or creaks.
Though I stated this before, it is even more true now: when you get into the routine of using this machine 4 - 6 times a week you REALLY start to appreciate the power incline and resistance settings, which have held up very nicely. Likewise, the heart rate monitor has held up well and it is another feature that I felt "so what" about when I bought the machine, but now greatly appreciate as a feature.
Again, given that I got my unit for $1,000 shipped, I feel like I got an exceptional bargain for how well this machine has held up and continues to work basically exactly as it did out of the box after months of frequent use.
Just make sure that you clean the rails and the wheels. They are magnets for dog hair and dust, but cleaning them once a month or so seems adequate. You can't go wrong at this price point for the value you get.
10 MONTH UPDATE: Still works nicely and no problems or complaints. I have had to tighten the bolts again at the point where the arms connect, but this really isn't that big of a hassle and is probably something that has to be done on all elliptical machines from time to time. Still very glad I invested in this machine.
One year: Nothing really to comment on, everything still works properly and nothing has broken or caused any issues. Machine is still running strong. My dog chewed up the heart rate monitor and Sole sent me a new one for free.
7/25/2010: Still working well. Like before, a little bit of knocking here and there that I have to adjust with a wrench, but otherwise its holding up nicely. It even survived a move into my new house -- and it got banged up pretty badly. While moving it, I figured I might have to pay to have it fixed, or do some major overhaul, but when I set it up in my new house it ran like normal. Very impressed with its durability. Thanks for all the good comments.
9/22/2010: No problems to report. Haven't used the machine much over the summer since I've been exercising outdoors, but I've tested it here and there to make sure it's operating normally, and I have had no concerns.

Enjoy an efficient full-body workout without heading to the gym with the Sole E35 elliptical trainer. Boasting a heavy 25-pound flywheel, a high gear ratio not found on most comparable models, and a pair of upper body handles, the E35 delivers an extremely smooth workout with plenty of top-end resistance. Users will also appreciate the unique oversize foot pedals, which were designed in collaboration with a leading physical therapist and sports enthusiast. The pedals are not only extra large, but also feature a 2-degree inward slope that reduces the ankle and knee stress that's common in other elliptical machines. And thanks to the stationary handle bars with built-in pulse sensors, it's a breeze to monitor your heart rate as you exercise (a chest strap is also included for highly accurate wireless monitoring).
Workout specifics include 16 resistance levels, ten total programs (including one custom program), and a 20-inch stride length. Perhaps the handiest feature from a user perspective, however, is the easy-to-use electronic console, which integrates a blue backlit LCD display, a cooling fan, and a water bottle holder.

When working out on it I was not able to keep my feet flat on the foot pads like other ellipticals. After 20 minutes of working out my feet started hurting, my toes started hurting and my knees and back hurt all the next day. I am used to working out on these machines for a good hour or so at the gym with no pains what's so ever! I kept working out on it to see if it would get better over time but it progressively got worse. So it is now back at the shop. The trick is to keep your feet flat on these machines to keep it a low impact work out on your joints. Life fitness is more like running if that is what you want. I prefer Precor with the adjustable incline and foot pads where I can keep my feet flat. Other then that it is a very well made and you will get a great work out. Also the stride is so quiet and smooth!
Word of advice > try out a bunch of machines and really work out on them before taking them home.

I purchased the E95 a few weeks ago. The Amazon delivery arrived when scheduled and the service was great. I was a little concerned with the height of the machine. I am 6'2' and have it located in the basement with 90" ceilings. I have about 3" of head clearance with no incline and my hair rubs the ceiling at full incline. The E95 is very smooth and the integrated programs are great. I especially enjoy the wireless heart rate strap and the associated workouts. The machine is heavy and the assembly is not difficult but does take some time. I would highly recommend it
