All-in-one Stand Alone Pull up Bar Review

All-in-one Stand Alone Pull up Bar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was skeptical that this bar would be sturdy enough to support my 200lbs without a lot of flexing. I was pleasantly surprised. Assembly was quick and easy. I expect to get years of service out of this piece.
If I had one wish it would be for the front and rear of the base to be connected. I pull the bar away from the wall when I want to use it and always have to realign it to get everything parallel. Two small connector pieces would solve this. I will eventually fabricate something for myself. Another alternative would be to put some kind of rubber foot on the bottom.
Second wish might be to offer an extension kit for taller people. I'm 6'4" and while it's certainly tall enough to use comfortably, I would prefer to have another foot of height.

This portable pull up bar is perfect for people who don't want a big bulky "tower" that you can't move. You can assemble and disassemble the product in a minute (no tools required). It comes in 7 pieces (all under 45" in length) and fits in a 48"x8"x8" box. This product is also a "transformer". In its "normal" configuration, it is 7 feet tall, and the top bar lets you do pull ups, chin ups, and "neutral-grip" pull ups. You can adjust the height in 4" increments. In its "dipping" configuration, you take off the top half, so that the top bar is 3.5 feet high, allowing you to do dips, inclined pull ups, and and inclined push ups. Again, you can adjust the height in 4" increments. The construction is rock-solid, hand-welded by guys who make trapeze rigging that people trust their life to. The system can easily handle 350 pounds without bending. The product is made entirely of aluminum, so its lightweight but won't rust. Other pullup bars are made of steel, and can cost over $100 in shipping. Because our product only weighs 23 pounds, we can offer FREE SHIPPING.This product is proudly designed and manufactured completely in the USA.

Cap Barbell Solid Hex Dumbbell Set with Rack (150 Pound) Review

Cap Barbell Solid Hex Dumbbell Set with Rack (150 Pound)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm sure these aren't top of the line weights, but for the set and the rack the price is great. It's a good compliment for anyone doing p90x. The are well packaged. The rack is the rectangular style and easy to assemble. On top of all that the shipping was free through Amazon's super shipping saver. I think the UPS guy wanted to kill me, but maybe he just needed to go to the gym too.
A weight is a weight. These do what they are supposed, and the only thing I could see that was wrong was one of the numbers was stamped blurry. I prefer the hex style dumbbells because they are more comfortable than both the switchable weights (aka. powerblock) and the spin-lock dumbbells. If you have the space, this is the way to go. I just have a few spin locks to do anything over 25lbs.

Proform Assisted VKR Vertical Knee Raise Power Tower PFBE1716 Review

Proform Assisted VKR Vertical Knee Raise Power Tower PFBE1716

Unit arrived within four days, free shipping, ground!
Very impressed with the finished product. The assist really helps and works well. The unit has some nice features, like both the assist platform and dip arms easily folds out of the way and lock in place giving more room for chinning.
At 200 and 130lbs the chinning and dip bars are adequate for me and my wife. There is a little give in the bars when I use it, but it still feels very safe. I doubt that it would hold up well if 4-5 guys were using it, but it should last us fine.
The unit came nicely packaged in double boxes and shipping was free and much faster than I anticipated.
While it did take a the better part of an evening to assemble, the instructions were very clear and warned that assembly would take some time. You'll need a 17mm wrench (or crescent or pliers) along with the included allen wrenches. Power tools don't work well, because some of the angles make access tough. A 17mm ratchet would be quicker than a wrench.
Unfortunately the unit says made in China in several places, so ease of assembly is somewhat compromised by manufacturing quality. The instructions said you might need a hammer to complete assembly. I didn't need one, but thought about it a couple times.
One last note regarding assembly. One component was not drilled. It looks like the part was packaged before it went through the final manufacturing step. I called the company using the number listed on the manual. I got a quick response and they are sending a new part, no problem. The 10-20 day estimated delivery is kind of a bummer, but now I can drill the hole in the original part myself and not worry about voiding any warranty and having to send anything back.
Overall, I'm very happy with the product, price and service.

PowerBlock Classic Adjustable Dumbbell Set Review

PowerBlock Classic Adjustable Dumbbell Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the PowerBlock dumbbells after returning the SelectTech dumbbells. The SelectTechs are cumbersome, the weight plates feel loose, and you have to dial two dials to select one weight. Furthermore, they are over $100 more expensive than the PowerBlocks.
On the plus side for the PowerBlocks:
1) They take up very little space for an adjustable dumbbell
2) They feel solid
3) While not cheap, they are much cheaper than the SelectTech dumbbells
4) You can do over the head tricep extensions using both weights or one using the handles on the bottom
5) Selecting the weights is a one step process for each weight
6) They are upgradable with a heavier handle option and a barbell option
On the minus side:
1) Alligning the pins to select the weight is a bit more difficult with the weights on the ground. The stand or a table top would alleviate this problem.
Overall, I'm pleased with the PowerBlocks and definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a quality, adjustable weight dumbbell.

The only dumbbell system that can expand to meet your strength needs, PowerBlock dumbbells are the most versatile and effective exercise tool ever developed for strength training. PowerBlocks work intuitively. Rather than requiring you to buy a room full of dumbbells, PowerBlocks act just like a weight stack at the gym, with a weight handle that fits inside the first weight, which fits inside the second, which fits inside the third, etc. When you want to change weights, you simply move the weight selector pin into the appropriate slot and you're set. As you lift the core, all the weights above the selector pin are lifted at the same time, turning your 3-pound dumbbell into a 6-pound dumbbell, or your 6-pound dumbbell into a 12-pound dumbbell. Not only is the system remarkably easy to use, but it's also cost- and space-efficient, as a single pair of dumbbells can do the work of dozens.
This pair of 45x5 dumbbells, for instance, adjusts from 5 to 45 pounds in 5-pound increments (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 pounds), in effect doing the job of 18 individual weights. Even better, the weights are more compact and balanced than traditional dumbbells, with a padded handle that protects people with weak wrists. Best of all, the free weights are terrific whether you're trying to build muscle mass, firm and tone your physique, or get rid of unwanted body fat. The adjustable set offers a maximum weight of 45 pounds per hand and carries a limited 10-year warranty.

P90X Peak Results Package Review

P90X Peak Results Package
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love P90x, I have not regretted my purchase for a moment. This particular package comes with items that you may or may not want to use depending on your personal situation. For the workouts, what you do NOT get in this package which you will likely need are a chinup bar (I dont recommend the p90x bands for reasons below), a mat, multiple sets of weights or an adjustable set like the Powerblock ones (or use resistance bands). You dont need alot of space if you are creative - I lunge then pivot and lunge again in my tiny living room.
Pros: the dvds are fantastic, yes Tony does talk alot, but I prefer having someone to zone out listening to than have my inner monologue kick in during a silence, telling me how hard an exercise is. Tony's banter is a good distraction, although I am sure some disagree. The dvds are also great in that there is minimal time wasted in explaining an exercise before it is performed. This is great for repeat value since you don't get inordinately long pauses outside of the designated breaks while an instructor explains something before actually performing it - Tony walks around correcting the others or demonstrating the moves himself -while you are supposed to be doing it-, which I find a huge improvement from other programs and dvds I have tried.
The recovery drink. although much touted in the dvds, isn't something I use as frequently. When I do drink it I use a half portion, since I'm five foot four and quite slender, and the relatively few calories I can consume in a day I don't want to be wasting. That thing is just over 200 for the double scoop 'recommended' serving and quite frankly there is alot of sugar in it. Its definitely the best tasting of recovery drinks I have tried though.
The workout guide is excellent, it breaks down how you can do the classic routine, the lean routine (more cardio and somewhat less intense, for those who want to lose weight) or the 'doubles' routine, which is essentially the classic routine but with more cardio in the mid and later phases of the program. There is alot of detail, explanation and a breakdown of the workouts in each dvd.
The nutrition guide is something I havent delved into too deeply, but it does offer meal plans for every phase of the program as well as recipes. I have tried none of them, as I'm following my own nutrition plan while doing p90x.
Now, the resistance bands are my problem. For someone like myself without alot of hand strength, negotiating those things was a nightmare. Just trying to get the bands into the handles was impossible, so I threw them out and used a pair I had purchased from the fitness store nearby, along with a door attachment.
This is definitely an investment if you plan to work out at home and not use a gym nearby for the equipment. I have seen people bringing their laptops downstairs to the apartment gym and playing p90x while grabbing a bunch of weights and cordoning off their little area - if thats your thing, all power to you, but I personally don't like disrupting other peoples workout time with loud clamour from my dvds and by hogging a large number of weights. I made a $300 investment in good adjustable weights, a mat and a chinup bar that all fit in a tiny space when out of use at home, and I have seen results from as early as two weeks into the program. Be aware that if you do make this plunge, a HUGE part of your success will depend on drinking plenty of fluids, eating the right foods and AT THE RIGHT TIME. Don't waste all your hard work and your money by doing this half assed.
One final thing to remember, you should not dive into p90x without having some base level of fitness. I exercised 3 times a week for two months prior to starting this program and if I hadn't, I would never have made it through the plyometrics dvd which is something you are recommended to do from the very first week. Build up to this, I have seen some of my friends nearly collapse because they did not. And good luck!

The DVD Workouts Each of the 12 highly diverse and intense DVD workouts focuses on either a specific set of muscle groups or a unique training technique.
Workout One: Chest & Back This superset chest-and-back-blasting workout emphasizes two classic upper-body exercises--push-ups and pull-ups--to build strength and develop shape. The combination of these two push and pull movements will help you burn loads of calories while simultaneously attacking, strengthening, and developing multiple muscle groups.
Workout Two: Plyometrics Get ready to go airborne. Offering more 30 explosive jumping moves, this intense cardio routine will keep you in the air most of the time. Plyometrics, also known as jump training, has been proven to dramatically improve athletic performance. If your sport involves a ring, rink, field, court, or track, this training will give you the edge. Just be prepared to "bring it" for a full hour when you leap into this workout, because there is no letting up.
Workout Three: Shoulders & Arms Nothing rounds out the perfect physique like a pair of well-defined arms and shoulders, and with its potent combination of pressing, curling, and fly movements, this routine will leave you feeling stronger and looking sexier. Whether you want to build muscle mass or just slim and tighten what you've already got, these targeted shoulder and arm exercises will give you the results you want.
Workout Four: Yoga X Yoga is a vital part of any fitness regimen, and is an absolute must for an extreme program like P90X. This routine combines strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and breath work to enhance your physique and calm your mind. Yoga X will leave you feeling energized, invigorated, and maybe even a little enlightened.
Workout Five: Legs & Back Get ready to squat, lunge, and pull for a total-body workout like no other. While the main focus of this workout lies in strengthening and developing the leg muscles (quads, hamstrings, glutes, and calves), there are also a handful of great pull-up exercises to give your legs a quick breather while you work the upper body.
Workout Six: Kenpo X Kenpo X was created to give P90X users a high-intensity cardiovascular workout packed with lots of punching and kicking combinations to improve balance, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. During this workout you'll learn some of the most effective ways to defend yourself, while at the same time getting your body in peak condition.
Workout Seven: X Stretch Stretching is the one thing that will help you achieve a higher level of athleticism over a longer period of time. The X Stretch routine is an integral part of the program, as it helps prevent injuries and avoid plateaus. The extensive full-body stretches that make up this routine use disciplines from Kenpo karate, hatha yoga, and various sports to ensure that your body is fully prepared to meet all P90X challenges head-on.
Workout Eight: Core Synergistics Each and every exercise in the Core Synergistics workout recruits multiple muscle groups to build and support the core (lumbar spine and trunk muscles), while at the same time conditioning your body from head to toe. Loaded with a variety of fun, unique, and challenging exercises, this routine will get you moving in all directions to maximize your P90X results.
Workout Nine: Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps Packed with an array of moves that target both large and small muscles, this workout will do wonders for your upper body. In just one full sequence you'll get a healthy dose of presses, flys, and extensions to push you to the brink. The results will be a stronger, leaner, and highly defined upper torso that will leave you looking awesome, with or without a shirt.
Workout 10: Back & Biceps With a host of curls and pull-ups, this routine will make it fun to flex those powerful biceps. But don't worry, ladies--by using lighter weight, you can focus on toning and tightening these showcase arm muscles without adding the size that most guys covet. Additionally, this workout also provides some great back definition that everyone can appreciate. Regardless of your goals, you will achieve them in dramatic fashion if you dig in and max out your reps.
Workout 11: Cardio X This low-impact cardio routine can be used in a variety of ways to meet your P90X goals. Use it in addition to your standard P90X workload when you want to burn some extra calories, or as a substitute if your body needs a break from the program's high-impact workouts. Whatever your reason for using Cardio X, you'll find it a fun, full-throttle, fat-burning workout that will leave you feeling lean and mean.
Workout 12: Ab Ripper X The combination and sequence of movements in this unique workout taps into not only abdominal strength, but true core strength as well. Master these 11 highly effective exercises and you will achieve vital abdominal muscle strength to benefit your overall health and physical performance. You'll also develop that highly coveted six-pack as you take Ab Ripper X to full throttle. It's extreme work that's better than any machine in any club.

The Nutrition Plan Following the P90X nutrition plan is just as vital to your overall success as any of the extreme workouts in this program. Specifically designed to work in tandem with the P90X workout routines, this three-phase eating plan recommends the perfect combination of foods to satisfy your body's energy needs every step of the way. P90X is not about quick fixes or miracle diets. It's about selecting the healthy foods that you want to eat, and determining the portion amounts that will provide your body with the right amount of fuel to excel during exercise. The P90X nutrition plan offers three phases.

Phase 1: The Fat Shredder: A high-protein-based diet designed to help you strengthen your muscles while simultaneously and rapidly shedding fat from your body.
Phase 2: The Energy Booster: A balanced mix of carbohydrates and proteins with a lower amount of fat to achieve additional energy for performance.
Phase 3: The Endurance Maximizer: An athletic diet of complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and lower fat, with the emphasis on more carbohydrates.

Stamina 50-Pound Versa-Bell II Adjustable Dumbbell Pair Review

This adjustable dumbbell set fell apart the very first time I used it. I set the weight to 20lb for each dumbbell to get ready for a set of military press. I lifted the weight to my shoulders and then up for the first rep. The internal mechanism snapped while the weights were over my head. Fortunately I was not harmed. The weight missed my head and feet and slammed to the floor. There is minimalStamina 50-Pound Versa-Bell II Adjustable Dumbbell Pair damage done to my wood floor and the crashing sound sure did startle the heck out of me, that was the extent of the damage. I called Amazon, they were very helpful - I will receive a full refund plus a gift card for my trouble. Stamina (the company that makes this product) has proven to be very difficult to deal with. I called several times to report this issue. The customer service representative seemed annoyed with me. The manager was also supposed to get back to me but has neglected to do so thus far. I checked the BBB; there are multiple similar complaints with the company's products and their lack of professionalism and follow through in regards to dealing with unhappy customers. I certainly do understand looking for a bargain, especially during these trying times. For safety's sake I would invest in a better quality product. Good luck.

Impact Sports ePulse Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch and Calorimeter Review

Impact Sports ePulse Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch and Calorimeter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading the mostly positive reviews of the ePulse on Amazon, I decided to purchase the device about one month ago. I work out quite hard and pushed this device to its limits. Here are my general thoughts on the ePulse.
If all you are looking for is a device that gives you a real-time measurement of your heart rate, this device works fine. However, other functionality does not deliver as promised. The minimum heart rate is set to 0. The watch seems to take awhile to average out that 0 heart rate when calculating average heart rate for the entire workout. If you are working out for several hours, this shouldn't be a problem, but the average heart rate will report several beats too low if you are doing a shorter workout (such as 30 minutes).
Also, if you attempt to view other data screens such as maximum heart rate while working out and then go back to current heart rate, it will read way too low. It takes approximately 30 seconds to re-adjust back to your actual heart rate.
At high heart rates (such as 160-170 beats per minute (bpm)), the watch will occasionally stop adding calories burned to the device. For example, during a tempo run where my heart rate was near 170 bpm for ten minutes, it told me that I burned a total of 15 calories over the ten-minute period. When I went back to a lower heart rate in the 145-150 bpm range, the watch started calculating calories burned much more accurately.
I have spoken with the designers of the ePulse, and they told me that they were able to replicate these problems. They intend to fix them for their new model release.
So, if you are looking for a device to simply give you a measurement of your current heart rate and don't care about any other bells and whistles, this device is fine. However, if you want to know an accurate idea of how many calories you burn and what your average heart rate is, I would wait the 6-12 months for the next release.

Dynamic heart rate monitors have traditionally required an uncomfortable chest strap and compatible watch, practically restricting their use to serious athletes. Enter the ePulse, the world’s first armband heart rate monitor and calorimeter. Known as the "people’s fitness monitor," the ePulse makes it practical and convenient for anyone who is interested in tracking calories burned to enjoy the benefits of heart rate monitoring while performing literally any type of activity, from running to walking to simply doing daily chores.
The ePulse works by integrating light sensor and microchip technology--the same type used in hospital heart rate monitors--to accurately read the pulse from the forearm. Once on your arm, the ePulse continuously acquires and shows your current exercise heart rate while calculating calories burned based on your heart rate and personal profile. If you use the ePulse several times a day, it automatically compiles your calories burned into a grand daily total, including when your activities consist of moving around the office or doing work around the house. The ePulse also measures your basic metabolic rate (BMR), which is a prediction of how many calories you will burn based on your personal data input, and then adds your daily calories burned to show your total caloric burn for a day. This function is particularly useful for people who are trying to count calories and lose weight through a program of diet and exercise.
In addition, the ePulse handles a number of basic calculations, including elapsed exercise time, average heart rate, and minimum and maximum heart rates. People with specific training goals can further use the ePulse to calculate optimal heart rate exercise zones for both burning fat and boosting cardio conditioning. The ePulse will then provide a target high and low range for your heart rate, with a green LED light telling you when you're in the target zone.
The real advantage of the ePulse, however, is its chest-strap-free design. At best, chest straps are an annoyance, and at worst are so uncomfortable that they alienate many people from using this type of valuable training and fitness tool. Women in particular report sensitivity to chest straps, and many won't use heart rate monitors as a result. The ePulse, by contrast, is comfortable for both men and women, allowing users to easily regulate their workout intensity and better attain specific fitness or weight management goals. The ePulse--which incorporates an easy-to-ready day/night LED display and is powered by AAA batteries--requires no programming to immediately display heart rate data.
The ePulse excels during the following activities: general fitness, aerobics, running, tennis, racquetball, golf, resistance training, weight loss monitoring, weightlifting, and daily chores.

Manduka Black Mat Pro Yoga Package, Graphite, 85 Inch Mat Review

Manduka Black Mat Pro Yoga Package, Graphite, 85 Inch Mat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Padding: 5 stars. The mat is thick and provides an excellent amount of cushioning. You should never need to fold it.
Traction: 1 star. The mat provides excellent traction... until you start to sweat. I've read elsewhere that this is supposed to improve as the mat is broken in, but how long is that supposed to take? I've tried accelerating the break-in through washing and scrubbing (as recommended in the included instructions), but I haven't observed even the slightest improvement in traction while wet over the weeks that I've been using the mat. Just how long am I expected to slip and slide through my workouts?
I currently work around the traction issue by placing towels where I set my hands and feet. The towels still shift and bunch up, though, which forces me to stop and reset them numerous times over the course of a workout. Maybe wearing socks and gloves would work better, but I'm not thrilled with the idea.

PowerBlock SportBlock 24 Adjustable 3 to 24-Pounds per Dumbbell Set Review

PowerBlock SportBlock 24 Adjustable 3 to 24-Pounds per Dumbbell Set
Average Reviews:

I wish I could give stars in halves; this product would get a solid 4.5 from me. Rounding up to a 5 would mean folks who aren't taking the time to read the review might assume that there's really no room for improvement, but there is.
After reading this review you might think I work for Powerblock or something, but I don't. When you're spending between $150-400 on a set of "high performance" adjustable dumbbells, applying a bit of logic can go a long way for your satisfaction and safety.***AREAS THAT COULD USE IMPROVEMENT***
To help counteract the perceived bias I might have, I'm gonna try something different; I'm going to start with the CONS of the Powerblocks.
1. The magnets in the selector pin could be stronger. As a safety measure, there are magnets in the pin that hold it against the bars on the side of the weight stack, reducing the chance of it slipping out during an exercise. This makes a lot of sense, but the magnets are pretty weak. During some pretty basic exercises the magnets will come lose and lose their hold. Now don't get freaked out -- it's not like the pin flies out and it's scary to work out (there is an elastic band acting as a backup safety also). I'm talking like millimeters here; I can see that the pin has moved just enough where you can tell the magnets aren't holding. Rather than a whole bunch of cheap magnets within the pin, two small high-quality earth magnets would give a better hold while still being pretty easy to remove.
2. The weight selection process can be a bit finicky on carpet or non-flat surfaces. Because there may be a bit of shift in the weight stack on carpet, sometimes it's tricky to stick the weight pin in correctly. I recommend leaving these weights on a hard surface while in use, or better yet get the sport tray/stand to accompany them.
3. The pin can be put in crooked across two different weights. If you're not paying attention (and you should be!), it's somewhat easy to put the pin in crooked so that it crosses two weights. You will probably notice this right away when you go to pick up the weight, and it's not that big of deal since the pin still holds onto the heavier weight, but possibly re-engineering the pin shape or something could help prevent this entirely.****POWERBLOCK VS. THE COMPETITION****
Okay, now here's the part where you assume I work for Powerblock. Let me say that this set of dumbbells (and the Powerblock line in general) is a MUCH better choice than the SelectTechs (STs). While comparing these 24-pounders to the 52 pound SelectTech's isn't really fair simply for weight comparison reasons, I wanted to point out why I think this line is vastly superior:
1. The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells (I'll call them STs) are the same width whether you pick up 5 pounds or 52.5 pounds. And by the way, they are WIDE -- about 16" each. Imagine doing curls with 5 pounds per hand and needing THIRTY TWO INCHES across to do it -- makes for an uncomfortable curl, especially for narrower people. The Powerblocks (PBs), on the other hand, are narrower and more compact the less weight you add. All the stuff you don't need is left on the floor, not in your hand.
2. The STs require you to turn TWO dials to appropriate number on each dumbbell. There are 15 different weight settings on the STs, so what if your next weight is on the opposite side of the dial? That's right, it will require EIGHT CLICKS PER SIDE OF EACH DUMBBELL to pick up the new weight. That means it takes between 4 (minimum) and 32 (maximum) clicks of the dial to change weights each time. And you can't just flick the dials, either. The PBs, on the other hand, require two moves no matter what weight you're selecting: pull the pin out, put the pin in. Period.
3. The STs, while far "cooler" looking, have a lot of plastic on them. Pick a set up at your local Sports Authority and see if you can tell how the weigh selector mechanism works. Then, consider how durable (and potentially unsafe) you think your $400 weights would be if you dropped them. The PBs are mostly metal, with the inner handle being the only thing that contains plastic, and it's not cheapo plastic either. If you drop them, I'm guessing they'd hold up fine, although I wouldn't recommend it.
4. With the STs you HAVE to have the base to set the handles back into due to the design of the product. If you didn't have a tray to hold all the weights that were left behind, it'd be a nightmare to put the handles back together and try and switch to another weight. In fact, I'd like to see someone try =) The PBs are self-contained, so they work fine without the stand. The weights that you don't pick up stay in a compact stack that won't move.********CONCLUSION AND SUMMARY********
Aside from those gripes, I really enjoyed these Powerblocks. In fact, I grew out of them and traded up to the Sport 9.0 model (which I will review separately). If 24 pounds per arm is enough for your routine, it's an absolute no-brainer to pick these guys up. Note that Amazon has built in the shipping cost to the price of these dumbbells.
PROS
+ Much more compact than the competition
+ Quick weight changes to ANY weight
+ Well built/durable
+ Great price on the lower weight set (if 24 is all you need)
CONS
- Magnets in pin could be stronger
- Doesn't work quite as well on carpet
- Possible to put the pin in crooked if you're not paying attention

This pair of SportBlock 24x3 dumbbells, for instance, adjusts from 3 to 24 pounds in 3-pound increments (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24 pounds), in effect doing the job of 16 individual weights. Even better, the weights are more compact and balanced than traditional dumbbells, with a padded handle that protects people with weak wrists. Best of all, the free weights are terrific whether you're trying to build muscle mass, firm and tone your physique, or get rid of unwanted body fat. The SportBlock set offers a maximum weight of 24 pounds per hand and carries a limited 10-year warranty.

Stud Bar Pull Up Bar Review

Stud Bar Pull Up Bar

I've made many different pull up bars, trying to save money. Yet this product is worth every penny. It is easy to install and bomber solid. I'm an avid "CrossFitter" - the bar doesn't budge, even with my most violent kipping pull ups.
At first, the bar was a bit too smooth for my taste. A bit of fine grain sand paper gave it a more secure feel for me.
I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a rock solid pull up bar.

Stamina 1700 Power Tower Review

Stamina 1700 Power Tower

My biggest concern was if this can handle 6'3 265lbs of weight. It is sturdy. Only thing I didn't like was the pushup bars but they aren't bad but you can't go DEEP cause there is a bar that will touch your head before you get to that point. I mainly got this for pullups and leg raises anyway it's a nice addition to my home gym. Own mine now for a little over a year I didn't wanna do a review till I knew this was very solid and long lasting.

Bodylastics Resistance Bands 388 lbs. of resistance ***MUSCLE AND FITNESS Edition with User Book & DVD Review

Bodylastics Resistance Bands 388 lbs. of resistance ***MUSCLE AND FITNESS Edition with User Book and DVD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Strength bands work best with overhead presses, chest presses, chest flys, squats, deadlifts and bicep and tricep work. I tried working out my back with resistance bands and it just doesn't work because the resistance is not even (moreso for rows than lat pulldowns). The resistance will always be the hardest at the end of the repetition because you are stretching out the band, with that said the resistance is not even throughout the entire range of motion but it is close. Resistance bands are not as smooth as the cable pulleys in most gyms, but for the low price, bands mimic cable pulleys pretty well while giving most of the benifits of cable pulleys for 1/10th of the price. If you are strong you will shred the foam off the handles within 1 year (with heavy use). And be sure to check your bands every workout or so because if they begin to shred and you don't replace them with new ones they could break leaving a very nasty injury.

Best Fitness BFVK10 Vertical Knee Raise Review

Best Fitness BFVK10 Vertical Knee Raise
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The product arrived earlier than I expected, which was a plus. During the installation process, I noticed the manufacturing defect on the bottom parallel support beam (the one that connects the vertical legs). As a result, the stand is a little crooked. It's not balanced and wobbles a bit so I had to jam a piece of cardboard under it to keep the it stable. The pull-up bar is a hollow tube and feels flimsy while I'm exercising. I'm not a big guy and weigh only 160 pounds. At times, I get the uneasy feeling that the pull-up bar will bend and snap off. The rubber grips keep slipping off while doing pull-ups so I removed them and wrapped the bar with tape. Don't try performing pull-ups too fast or else this stand will tip over. This equipment stands 85 inches tall and is 24.5 inches wide. The dip handles feel sturdy, but again, try not to do it too fast or else it will tip. For the price, you can find other better equipments. I decided to get this one because the dimensions fit my home gym. I didn't pay full retail price for it since I had a gift card, still, I was expecting better quality.

Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program Review

Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a former P90X junkie. That program literally changed my life and got me into the best shape of my life, even at 40 years old.
So I was pumped when I saw this one coming down the pike. Got it for my birthday last year. However, this is not P90X. That is not a criticism at all, just don't expect more of the same.
This is all floor exercises using your body weight with lots of plyometric and isometic exercises, cardio and core exercise that will work you - hard. And then it will work your core even more. Its primary focus is the core.
And it will get you into the best shape of your life. I say that with a few caveats.
It's broken into two four week segments with a "recovery" week in between. I completed the first four weeks, the "recovery" week and the first week of the second half of the program. Had to slow down the intensity because my job went to 12 hour shifts.
I now do it several times a week, when time permits. I can tell you this, though: I do the Plyometric workout from P90X when I need an easy day. My leg strength, especially the explosive kind, has increased tenfold. And my cardio is through the roof.
But this will kick your a** no matter what kind of shape you are in. Even the participants in the DVD have to quit and take breaks. It's that intense.
It is tough on the body, though, so be prepared. If you aren't in some semblance of shape, you may want to rethink this one. I pulled a neck muscle during the first week because I didn't breathe properly. It will tax your joints, your knees, your feet, your back. It requires serious focus. Breathing is key. Drink lots of water. And move at your own pace.
The caveat is really only this: you may lose quite a bit of muscle mass. This doesn't mean you will get less strong but with no exercises for the biceps or the lats (no pull-ups here), those "glamour muscles" will lose size.
People commented on my weight loss, even though I wasn't trying to lose weight. I just couldn't eat enough food. Your food intake will determine your results. So I shrank but, in many ways, I was stronger than ever. Size doesn't always equal strength.
You will notice your body change, your core will be the strongest it's ever been and you will be in incredible shape, even if you only do the program at half the intensity.
I give it a thumbs up but know what you want to get out of the program and understand what it is about before investing your time and money in it.
