Core All Black Military Review

Core All Black Military
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had my Core for less than a year and have had to send it in for repairs 4 times. The pins that hold the band to the watch are weak and come undone and fall out frequently. I finally convinced Suunto to send me spare pins, and I secured them myself. I have twice had to send it in for button failures, and now for a display failure.
Suunto has always replaced the watch, but it is a tedious process of creating a service order and mailing it in. That means no wathc for a few weeks. I am currently in Iraq and will have to mail it to someone in the US to ship to handle as Suunto will not take it from here.
There are few differences between the Core and the Vector. The storm alarm is fairly worthless, and will drive you nuts going off when the A/C turns on in the house. The sunrise/sunset feature is cute.
My suggestion is to stick with the Suunto Vector. It will hold up much better.

Timex Ironman T5F011 Men's Bodylink Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Timex Ironman T5F011 Men's Bodylink Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the Timex Body Link for 3 year and absolutely love it! Using the heart rate monitor & GPS is very simple, all you have to do is turn them on push the red display button and they start working. There are also a number of different display settings for enthusiasts to customize.
The watch comes with a heart rate monitor (chest strap) and a GPS piece. The GPS comes with a arm band and belt clip accessories. This is not a watch with GPS built in like Garmin watches.
Timex also sells a data recorder that works with the Body Link system, but I would not buy it again since the software that comes with it is pretty worthless. Besides, most of the information you would want to track can be stored in the watch and written down later.
Pros:
- Easy to get started with
- 100 lap memory
- Loads of different display modes
- Reasonably small compared to other GPS watches
- Great price
- Heart rate recovery timer
Cons:
- GPS needs a lot of "open" sky to work properly, if you plan on running on forest trails or in the city with a lot of high rise buildings the GPS can't lock on to enough satellites.

Timex Ironman T5J985 Unisex Trail Runner Bodylink Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Timex Ironman T5J985 Unisex Trail Runner Bodylink Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used Timex Ironman watches for the last 20+ years for tracking running splits while training for local 10k races, so I am used to the format. The format for the Trail Runner watch is total different due to its additional features of the GPS and Heart Rate monitor. Even with these new features, it is still easy to use.
It has the ability to show you 3 different lines of realtime date that you can select from while in the Chonograph mode. You can watch heart rate, speed, distance, pace, lap time, split time, etc. what ever you desire. The middle line of the screen is larger than the top or bottom data line, so you can even toggle what data is provided in that line for better viewability while running. It comes with a bike attachment for Triathalon training so you can mount to handle bars instead of looking down at your wrist all the time.
The GPS is very accurate for tracking distance even under heavy trees. If you are using the belt clip versus the arm band for the GPS module, then you may find that accuracy may vary slightly due to being covered up by your shirt while running. When I tuck in my shirt just above the belt clip on my hip, then the GPS is precisely accurate each and every time. I have not used the arm band yet, but I imagine that would solve this problem. You can hit the mode button a couple of times while running to get to the Finish mode, and the watch will predict your finish time based on how far you told the watch you run will be -- extremely helpful for hitting target times while training, trying to hit a qualifying time for a road race, or hitting a personal best or finish time for a race.
The GPS module takes about 1 to 2 minutes to link up with the satellites, so you need to give it that time before you begin your run. The heart rate monitor is awesome and 100% accurate - I tested it for accuracy against another HR monitor. I also checked the speed mode on the GPS (shows MPH) against 3 cars to see how accurate, and again 100% accurate even at 50 and 60 MPH. Weight wise, the GPS module is so light even with the 1 AA battery, that you dont even notice its there. The watch itself is not any larger than some of my other large Timex Ironman watches and is also extremely light weight. I also ordered the new version of the Data Recorder (weighs as much as a ping pong ball), but I have not used it yet in the three weeks I've owned the Watch kit and Data Recorder. The info that comes with the Data Recorder shows that they have not updated the software program for you computer to be compatible with Windows Vista. I checked online at Timex.com, and they didn't show an update to the software yet to download the week that I received the Data Recorder, but it looks like a great addition to the package that I should and will start using shortly.
All in all, I'm extremely pleased with this watch and how it is helping me to improve my running. I love being able to go out the door and just run until the watch tells me I've hit my half way point on distance so that I can turn around and head home. If you can afford this watch, you will not be sorry at all!!

LEKI Super Makalu COR-TEC PA Hiking Poles (Pair) Review

LEKI Super Makalu COR-TEC PA Hiking Poles (Pair)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am partial to Leki hiking poles and these are the best that I have used. I have used them on Mt. Kenya, Kilimanjaro, on 4 weeks of hiking in the Andes, hiking small peaks in Scotland, and in many places in the US. They are comfortable, solid, durable poles. The grip material is easier on the hands than rubber. The grip angle is nice. Repair parts are available all over the world (though I have only replaced the tips). I have no complaints and lots of compliments about these poles.

Hike with confidence with this pair of LEKI Super Makalu Hiking Poles, which provides a comforting feeling of security and balance as you trek over rugged terrain. It features LEKI's Soft Antishock System (SAS), an internal suspension system that cushions the impact of each pole plant for comfort and security--especially while descending trails. The COR-TEC grips offer a comfortable, ergonomic design made of 80 percent natural, ground cork. The shaft's 15-degree positive angle keeps the wrist in neutral position during pole plants and properly places the pole tip for optimum support. The concave, cylindrical carbide flextips offer secure hold when walking off road. The Auto Comfort strap adjusts without the use of buckles and is lined with a soft, wicking material that dries quickly. LEKI's Easy Locking System (ELS) provides a secure adjustment hold with the least amount of torque (hand strength required).
It's named after the Makalu peak in the Himalayas, the fifth largest mountain in the world at 8,475 meters and believed to be named after the throne of the Hindu god Shiva.

About LEKILEKI, the world’s leading manufacturer of ski, hiking and trekking poles, had its start in Kircheim, Germany as a hobby of its founder, Karl Lenhart, an airframe mechanic and avid skier. Lenhart believed aluminum would make a superior ski pole compared to the heavy steel models available in the late 1940’s. After successfully creating lightweight poles for his friends, in 1954, the hobby became a full time business. LEKI originated the use of nylon webbing for straps and created plastic molded grips and baskets in place of metal and leather. Additionally, Lenhart developed an aluminum tempering process that produces pole shaft with incomparable strength, durability, and reliability.
In 1984, Klaus Lenhart, Karl’s son, assumed leadership and shortly there after developed the first dual-component grip. He is also responsible for improving adjustable pole-locking technology and grip innovations such as the Trigger Click-In system and COR-TEC, a material made of real cork and latex. As the ski market continued to flourish, LEKI began manufacturing hiking poles primarily for European mountain guides. The concept of using two poles as means of relieving stress on knee joints and the lower back appealed to climbers who also saw benefits in performance and safety. LEKI poles eventually caught on with the general hiking and trekking population that recognized and appreciated the preventive health benefits as well as the climbing support and stabilizing effects. In 1990, LEKI USA was incorporated. The North American market has embraced the company’s line of alpine, Nordic, back country, mountaineering, Nordic walking, and trekking poles. Like their European counterparts who have been loyal to LEKI for nearly five decades, North American outdoor enthusiasts know and appreciate LEKI quality and value.

Lowa Men's Renegade II GTX Lo Hiking Shoe Review

Lowa Men's Renegade II GTX Lo Hiking Shoe
Average Reviews:

These are really handsome shoes, they fit well (snuggly tight to the entire foot), and are very comfortable. I bought them just prior to a big adventure trek vacation in Costa Rica, and they were the only shoes I used during that trip. They got a huge test of a workout, in lots of rain, street walking, and hiking in very challenging weather and terrain conditions that included hiking on muddy and rocky mountains horseback riding, and crossing a bunch of shallow rocky streams. I think these shoes must be waterproof because my socks never got wet. They are hugely handsome with a pair of jeans I thought and seemed to look sharp when wearing rugged looking shorts. The particular color of shoes I bought are the navy blue and black ones (called "dark grey/navy"), and they have a really rugged, smart look to them. The picture on Amazon is true to the color they appear when they showed up. I say that because I've ordered shoes before that looked one color online and showed up looking considerably different. Anyway, this company Lowa got it right with these. I've never heard of Lowa before, and bought them on blind hope and faith. I've was pleasantly surprised. Personally I think the price is worth it, but only if you're going to get lots of use out of them. Oh, and as for shipping speed, they did seem to arrive quite quickly after I placed the order (but I don't know off-hand where they were shipped from). The only thing I have a concern about is that I got them hugely dirty, and I don't know how to clean them. Hopefully that can be figured out given the type of materials these are made of (some of it looks to be suede, and much of it a leather, I think, without reading the specs online). Anyway, bottom line: I love them.

I was thinking about giving this review 4 stars because I am disappointed about the fact that you are unable to buy the Mir Pro+ vest on Amazon from Mir. From looking at their site there is only a difference in $10 between them. I was aware of the fact before I purchased this one from Amazon, however most of the purchase of this vest was paid with Amazon gift cards. The Mir Pro vest is able to hold a maximum amount of weight of 90lbs, but for another $10 you can get the Mir Pro+ vest which is able to hold up to 140lbs. Unfortunately, Mir did not afford me the opportunity to purchase their Mir Pro+ vest. For most people a maximum of 90lbs would be more than they would be able to carry, but I am not most people and use this type of product 4+ times a week. The Mir Pro vest is a great vest for anyone looking to take their workout to the next level. It is made of quality materials and has a lifetime warranty on the vest and I don't see it ever falling apart. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that loves working out and would use it often. I use it while lifting weights, hiking, jogging, and playing basketball. It will make your legs stronger and you will be able to sprint faster. I hiked 8 miles with this vest and got a nice workout.

LEKI Nordic Walking Speed Pacer Vario T2 Poles (120cm) Review

LEKI Nordic Walking Speed Pacer Vario T2 Poles (120cm)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been Nordic walking (really hiking up and down mountains) for nearly 4 years.
I used to love these poles. They are carbon and don't vibrate like aluminum poles. And they are light.
However I continually have issues with the locking mechanism not locking. I have sent the poles back once. Leki has a lifetime guarantee. They sent out repaired poles. But I have failures again.
However... having the locking mechanism fail (will not lock at all) is terrible. Once I had to use the poles at their shortest size since I couldn't lock them. Another time I had to abandon the trip.
I have Leki traveler poles I use when traveling by air and have had no problems with them.
I have given up on these an have just ordered some SWIX fixed length carbon poles.

Garmin FR60 Women's Black Fitness Watch Bundle (Includes Foot Pod, Heart Rate Monitor, and USB ANT Stick) Review

Garmin FR60 Women's Black Fitness Watch Bundle (Includes Foot Pod, Heart Rate Monitor, and USB ANT Stick)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using this watch/footpod/HR monitor now for about 6 months and I absolutely love it. It is like having a coach. I am a fairly new runner and completed a half marathon this past spring and loved it. I decided to get more serious about my training and run a fall marathon. The longer runs were really a pain because I'd have to get in my car and drive the route each time....and then remember them as I ran . And of course if an unpredicted problem came up (angry dog, suspicious person, etc) I couldn't really deviate without blowing the run and not knowing how far I'd gone . And also......my paces were off. I was running my recovery runs and easy runs WAY too fast. And then at the time I was using an old treadmill that was totally off pace, so my faster runs---well, who knows how consistent they were. I needed help !
And I got it. Everything fell completely into place after getting the watch. It basically sets ITSELF up,too. So easy to use. The Garmin website is awesome. I understand they had bugs at first, but I have encountered none of that. I can look at a run and see my heart rate and pace on a graph. I can also see reports on mileage, etc. And the ability to see cadence per mile is cool, too. I have learned so much by having all this data. It has made me a much better runner. I pay attention to heart rate now, too.
And of course it is wonderful to be able to track my distance and pace as I run outdoors. I can just take whatever direction I want now....I feel totally free and spontaneous out there. And I use it on the treadmill, too. Way more accurate than the treadmill as far as pace is concerned.
I also run in a lot of trees, which is why I avoided the GPS version. The footpod works everywhere and GPS will lose way points in heavy trees or in a city with tall buildings.
It coached me to a 4:14:01 first marathon finish this past October. It is really accurate and I have never calibrated it. Although I plan to go to an indoor track this week and do that this week before I start training seriously again (I wore it in the marathon and it tracked the the distance as 26.58---not bad over that many miles with no additional calibration, but still.....).
I highly recommend this product to anyone who would like to be able to monitor their training. It is all they say and a lot more. I plan to try to qualify for Boston this spring and I know my chances are much improved with my Garmin FR60 (yes, all my friends are definitely tired of hearing how much I love the watch!).

This is a great watch - fantastic functionality, easy to read, easy to operate. It came with a hideous orangeish red band that looks like something Bozo the clown would wear, so I quickly ordered the black band and changed it. Much better! Love that the battery is so easy to change and that it uses a standard size battery that's always easy to find (CR232). My only complaint is that the watch is huge and heavy, but the plus side is that the info on the watch is easy to read.

Navigate both mountain trails and city streets with ease with the Suunto Lumi Sportif wrist-top computer watch. Designed for women, the Suunto Lumi Sportif features a built-in altimeter, barometer, compass, and weather indicator, all in a clean, fresh housing. In other words, the watch is tough enough to endure a day of hard play, yet versatile enough to make a sport-inspired statement for a night out. And with a choice of different straps, pendants, or carabiner jackets, you can create a look to fit any activity.
The Lumi Sportif's primary selling point is its built-in altimeter, which displays your current altitude, vertical gain or loss from the start of a hike or climb, and your vertical ascent and descent rate. Accurate to within 30,000 feet, the altimeter is an extremely valuable tool for mountaineering, backcountry skiing, and wilderness travel. The altimeter contributes to your excursion in several ways. If you're standing on or near an obvious geographic feature, such as a ridge, trail, or creek, the altimeter can alert you to your current elevation and help you find your position on a topographic map. Similarly, if you plan on climbing a slope to a certain elevation and then traversing, the Lumi Sportif can help you stay on course. And as a bonus, the watch includes a unique start-from-zero function, so you don't have to enter a reference altitude. Instead, with the single push of a button, the altimeter will begin tracking your ascent and descent.
The Lumi Sportif also includes a barometer, which measures and records air pressure to help you predict changing conditions--from sunny skies to hair-bending electrical storms. The barometer helps you decide whether to bring a soft shell or rain shell jacket when the skies look ominous, or even when to high-tail it back to the car. In general, low pressure brings inclement weather, while high pressure brings stability and clear skies. If you've arrived at camp and notice the pressure starting to plunge, it's probably a good idea to secure the tent and crawl in. Likewise, if you were on a climb, it would be prudent to find shelter and retreat. Even at home, the Lumi Sportif barometer can look beyond office walls, skyscrapers, and nearby hills to help you plan for upcoming activities.
If you want a weather forecast that extends out a few hours, you can turn to the built-in weather trend indicator. The indicator shows the barometric history for the last three and six hours, helping you predict the weather with amazing accuracy. What's more, the watch doesn't give you a regional forecast posted earlier in the day, but rather the most current information about the weather directly overhead. In addition, the Lumi Sportif can sense an approaching squall even when the sky looks clear. This intelligent Storm Alarm--one of several intelligent features designed to keep you safe and secure--is activated by a rapid drop in air pressure over a three-hour period. Once the Lumi Sportif senses the change, the Storm Alarm sounds and flashes, letting you know that something unpleasant is fast approaching. And no outdoor watch is worth its salt without a digital compass, a great tool for keeping track of your direction while skiing, hiking, or exploring a new city. You can set and follow a bearing with a traditional rotating bezel, or simply point the top of the watch toward your intended destination and lock it in.
Additional features include several traditional watch functions, including dual times, a date display, and an alarm with a five-minute snooze; predicted times for sunrise and sunset to help you maximize your daylight hours; a day counter that keeps you abreast of an upcoming event; an automatic Alti/Baro mode that senses movement or lack thereof and switches between the altimeter and barometer accordingly; and the ability to function in English, German, French, and Spanish.
The Suunto Lumi Sportif comes equipped with a pendant and carabiner jacket, and is compatible with a number of other fashion-forward straps, pendants, and carabiners, depending on your taste. The Lumi Sportif carries a two-year warranty.

About Suunto Suunto was founded in 1936 by outdoors man and a keen orienteering enthusiast, Tuomas Vohlonen, who had long been bothered by a problem: the inaccuracy of traditional dry compasses and their lack of steady needle operation. Being an engineer with an inventive turn of mind, he discovered and patented the production method for a much steadier needle, better readings, and a new level of accuracy.
By 1950 the company was exporting compasses to over 50 countries around the world, including Canada and the United States. In 1952, Helsinki was hosting the Olympic Games, and the torches carried to light the Olympic flame were Suunto products. The next step was improving the stability and accuracy of marine compasses. The first marine compass, the Suunto K-12, was launched onto the market in 1953. In 1957, Suunto started manufacturing hypsometers, which measure the height of trees.
In the 1960s, the compass range grew further and Suunto introduced its first diving compass--initiated by the divers themselves. A British sports diver attached a Suunto compass to his wrist and found that the device also worked underwater. Thanks to his feedback and initiatives, the new business category was found. Suunto's exports and business grew steadily and Suunto then focused on combining its strength in precision mechanics with new skills in electronics. Accuracy, reliability, and ruggedness have been Suunto's key values from the very beginning of the company history.
Today, Suunto is a leading designer and manufacturer of sports instruments for training, diving, mountaineering, hiking, skiing, sailing, and golf. True to its roots, Suunto is today the world's biggest compass manufacturer. Prized for their design, accuracy and dependability, Suunto sports instruments combine the aesthetics and functionality of watches with sport-specific computers that help athletes at all levels analyze and improve performance. Headquartered in Vantaa, Finland, Suunto employs more than 500 people worldwide and distributes its products to nearly 60 countries. The company is a subsidiary of Helsinki-based Amer Sports Corporation with the sister brands Wilson, Salomon, Atomic, Precor, and Mavic.
